Please can we not reignite this annoying s%*#. We all cheer for the same team.5 points

It’s almost like the White Sox are really bad at developing and fail their players on the regular. Sheets still doesn’t draw walks and leads the Padres in strikeouts, so it’s not some magical transformation.4 points

We paid today for not having a true 1st baseman, you can’t send both of your 1st basemen to the minors, Elko was playing well at first and should have never been sent back to Charlotte after only a 10 game and 31 AB period but we have to remember that Getz is still an idiot.4 points
-
Hey, Getz Haters. I think we have to start looking at the very real possibility that the Sox won the Vargas trade. Not broke even, but won. How is Kopech doing for the Dodgers this year. And Fedde, very average. Yeah, a win.4 points

Sosa is a losing player. No instincts or feel for the game and a really bad situational hitter. They will be a better team when they finally move away from him.3 points

Why do you show up in game threads just to do this when things don't go well? It's like clockwork.3 points

1. Getz reads SoxTalk. 2. He got the idea of sending Vaughn to Charlotte here.3 points

https://www.thebaltimorebanner.com/sports/orioles-mlb/orioles-hitting-coaches-ryan-fuller-matt-borgschulte-cody-asche-64OHA52KXVH43PA2R7ILHTBNPI/ Lots of really worthwhile background stuff on Fuller, Slater (that signing and W.McKinven moves making sense), numerous player quotes here. Seems the other hitting coach from last year who went to the Twins is also very highly respected around the game. Obviously many fingers pointed at Asche as well as Elias for his decisions on the pitching front. Can also put to bed any ideas that Fuller doesn't coordinate well with outside/external hitting coaches. https://forum.orioleshangout.com/topic/56795-who-is-a-better-hitting-coach-cody-asche-or-ryan-fuller/&sa=U&ved=2ahUKEwibzaqt4r2NAxXqFjQIHdQMAyMQFnoECAgQAg&usg=AOvVaw23lceZWGy_82T1dV4Bk6rA2 points

Beni being the highest paid player on this team and sporting a sub-.700 OPS is a good reason this team is garbage. Luis Robert too. Both overpaid and bad.2 points

On what planet has Andrew Vaughn proven to be a major leaguer?2 points

I agree, he’s not a long term play but it’s better than throwing some 34 year old turd out there that’s going to hit .190 and offer nothing at all.2 points
-
He is playing some outfield too. Cags is a special hitter and he's going to be hitting in the middle of the Royals order for a long time. Let the record show I was also all in on Hagen Smith and needless to say my opinion of him has not changed one iota. He's going to be a fantastic top of the rotation starting pitcher.2 points

He should have regrets. A single scores his dumb ass.2 points

I checked in on the box score when the Sox were leading and had to look up who Capra was....was gonna post what is the point of picking up a guy like Vinny Capra but didn't want to be a negative Nelly when a sweep was still possible but now.......what is the friggin point of Vinny Capra??2 points
-
I understand that the bench has to play some and I've seen worse Sunday lineups. But why is Capra batting in the 9th?2 points

This team has been more fun to watch and it's been a good weekend. But games like this remind us that they're not out of the woods yet.2 points

I don’t need to see Leasure anymore. He has no command. He has no control. Send him down and call up Pallette2 points

We had 8 walks. We hit for some power and had some 2 out RBIs. Wilson battled as the emergency starter. Defense is a WIP but whatever, another solid game. We are making the Rangers look like teams usually make us look, whooping them at bat to bat. I'll admit that right now the team is better true talent than any point last year, even with Crochet. We've replaced 4-5 smoking craters with average big league players. The staff has done a good job squeezing everything they can out of the rotation so far. If the offense picks it up a bit the bullpen can give up some runs and won't matter as much. Let's hope we can keep showing improvement maybe get to like 30-50 by the end of June, just play a solid stretch of baseball.2 points

I don't need to hear from Charles Comiskey's family.2 points

Signing my cousin Capra must mean we won't see Colson up from the Minors any time soon, and if we do, the Sox will hedge their bets by having a back-up plan.2 points

And YOU get to go to Arizona! And YOU get to go to Arizona! If you look under your seats, everyone’s going to AR-I-ZONAAAAA!2 points

I’m a Benintendi fan, he received a lot of hate his first year but he had a really bad wrist. Not the best left fielder but if he stays healthy he should be good for 20 homers, 80 rbi and a OPS around .780.2 points

I'm just poking fun at the O's, man. You actually don't have to "counter" every post that doesn't come with explicit criticism of the Sox FO as if it's an endorsement. Reminds me of that old Twitter meme...2 points

perhaps. you're probably right. I wouldn't say I'm giddy, just optimistic. and if a situation could go one of two ways, why not look at the glass as half full (at least when it comes to sport)? I don't think it's a complete fantasy. Fantastical thinking was me thinking our team last year could've played .500 ball. life is miserable enough, baseball is pretty fun, would rather think "that kid is gonna be awesome" versus "we're gonna be in the cellar for the next decade". the latter might be true, but I'd tune out of this team like I tuned out of the Bulls if I believed it and wasn't entertained. my impression is that this reconstituted Sox organization is much less of a mess than whatever Reinsdorf Jr. is doing with the Bulls, and there's some reason to think the Sox will be a contender before the Bulls are. Getz is clearly more competent than Karnisovas despite Karnisovas having a "better resume" and "more experience". also, it just seems like the baseball landscape has changed. we just set the "most losses" record last year, now it appears the Rockies will do it. you add in the terrible 2018 Orioles and 2019 Tigers, it seems that an outsized number of these historically horrific teams set records in the last decade and that it's only getting more extreme. the discrepancy between the 'haves' and 'have nots' is widening, which seems to parallel American society as baseball so often has. this might be an indictment against major league baseball, which isn't the point of this post, but interesting to think about why there are seemingly many more 'bad teams' these days. Now, that historically bad Tigers team has turned into a very good team with more talent in the wings, meanwhile the Orioles built a 'great' team that has already collapsed (a la our 2020 Sox). that's to say, I think our fortune can change quickly and historical precedent is probably not that helpful (same as it wasn't for Garrett Crochet and his lack of innings pitched). I think we should bear in mind how big a step forward for the franchise it was to replace Hahn/Ken. A lot of us give Getz a hard time, maybe it was a nepotistic hire, but the positive organizational changes are becoming more apparent. What would David Stearns have done differently with the Sox aside from not sign Fedde? Would he have brought Juan Soto here lol? Probably would've signed Sean Manea who is not playing major league baseball this year. He hired some very competent people to come work for the team, it would seem. I made a joke in the game thread about how bad the Orioles are since firing Fuller, but the org's three biggest hires this offseason were: Venable, McKinven, Fuller and all three of their former teams have gotten much worse despite similar rosters. Is it a coincidence? Almost certainly, just pretty funny. I think the one total blind spot for fans is amateur scouting and drafting. yet, it seems to me the team has finally gotten over the Wilder saga and is finally back to operating in the DR with a new academy opening in 2026. Ultimately, my take is that there were innumerable mistakes that accumulated over the years that hurt the Sox in the present and that these issues are seemingly being addressed under a new front office. It probably takes years to bear fruit, but I'm not "giving up on the team" specifically because these changes were made and the grand scheme moves make sense to me even if I wonder why guys like Josh Rojas or Martin Maldonado are signed to several-million dollar deals. There are enough bad Getz deals made to go along with the good deals to raise some skepticism, trades or free agency, but so far it seems like the positive outweighs the negative.1 point

Back in 2018, Vasil looked like he could have been one of the first pitchers selected and had a chance to go among the top-10 picks. However, he got injured during his high school season and emailed teams before the draft that he would honor his commitment to Virginia. Mike Vasil is a 6’5 right-hander with a four-pitch mix. He throws a four-seam fastball primarily that peaks at 98 mph, but sits in the 92-95 range. Vasil also mixes in a mid-80s slider that moves like a cutter, along with a 12-6 curveball and changeup that he uses against lefties. As Vasil has progressed through the minors, holding velocity has been an issue. In September last season, Vasil averaged only 92.7 mph on his fastball, way below the 98 peak that evaluators saw out of college. While concerning at first glance, many are not worried about the dip, as the workload of a major league pitcher has been cited for the drop in velocity. https://metsmerizedonline.com/mets-minors-2024-prospects-no-10-mike-vasil/ Have to think our new intl guy who came over from the Mets made the recommendation here. Also, his story is quite similar to Shane Smith's in numerous ways...going beyond their obvious NE/Boston connections.1 point

Assuming that the continued presence of Slater et al on the roster is to be traded in July, he should be up soon. Sox are in no position to give away players who might help.1 point

liked hearing what Fuller said about it on the broadcast last night...seems they've really stepped up the services offered at the AZ complex. is it a 'bad sign' to send a player to AZ or is it unprecedented because there was nothing worth sending them to? hopefully it sticks with Colson. I think it's a good sign for player development in general, hopefully the ACL guys are getting something out of it...Profar jr. not looking so hot thus far.1 point

Sosa was a good minor league hitter; it's taken him a while to figure out the majors but it looks like he has. Trade rumors doesn't know what they are talking about.1 point

Not to get too personal, but you're a good writer. Betcha do something along that line when you're trying to make a living. Or you should. Also, I agree with almost all of what you say.1 point

Everybody's an expert with 18 years of hindsight. Miller and Maybin were both top ten prospects. Badenhop and Trahern were live arms. That was a good return for Cabrera, AND they got the Tigers to take on Dontrelle Willis' contract. The main point is that Dombrowski's high first rounders (beyond Verlander taken at #2) weren't really impact stars. It's great that he packaged a bunch of them to get Cabrera while taking on Dontrelle's huge albatross of a contract. Miggy stopped producing in 2017 and stuck around for another 6 years. He was a centerpiece of that 2019 114-loss team, and the Tigers kept Al Avila as GM for another 4 years after that. I guess other teams don't fire their GMs either after a horrible season that scrapes the bottom of physically possible loss totals.1 point

It's actually shocking to me that you're supposed to be bad in a rebuild but because it was setting record bad you're all so angry. It's actually comical. Yes we were supposed to be bad but not this bad ! It's even more funny thinking if JR fired Getz that that would somehow change the trajectory that JR has started the countdown on already. 5, 4, 3...I'm gone , my kids sell the Sox. New owner Ishbia ? New stadium ? Are we happy now ? Who cares I'm dead and my kids are rich.Good luck everybody !1 point

Come on Fathom you have more baseball knowledge than to make silly statements like you know what the rest of baseball would do in a similar situation. There is no similar situation comparable to a terrible owner , hiring a GM to rebuild after a failed rebuild so you're expected to be really bad during a rebuild right and then fire him for being really really bad ? I mean seriously is this about having a worse record than you expected to have when you should have known all along that they were going to have a very bad record. For all we know JR is smarter than all of us because he isn't mentioned half as much for that terrible record as his fall guy is. JR must know he is despised but watching the fans at each others throats about Chris Getz must make him chuckle. What a bunch of dimwits bothered so much by that record in one year that my puppet was in charge. I didn't even give him any real money to work with because I'm stripping down the whole franchise to be sold off after I die. As far as I'm concerned if Ishbia buys the Sox and fired everyone I'm good but expecting Reinsdorf the fire Getz accomplishes nothing. We act like JR wants to fix the mess he's responsible for in the 1st place. Fire Getz ! Ok now what ? Seriously is JR going to make it all better and kiss your boo boo ?1 point

No one is saying he's not responsible for his own actions. He's made bad decisions. He's learning on the job.The whole situation stinks. But along with the bad there is good happening and we act like minor, on the fringes trades are like signing Benintendi to his contract level of bad and some people never let us forget that. When you trade a nobody for a nobody if it doesn't work out how long am I supposed to cry about it ? I care more about new Traject machines and the new coaches and manager than I do the failure of Deloach or Fletcher .I care more about how some of the organization top arms will progress and ultimately impact the rise of the team. I care about the Sox being bad enough to get the best odds to acquire the1-1 pick in the draft, something the last rebuild never got because they failed to be really bad like Houston in their rebuild. The last rebuild never modernized. They were an insular group with the GM and the exGM operating independently as we saw when KW traded Buger for Eder and Ng bypassed Hahn and went straight to Williams. Who holds more responsibility for Edgar Quero ,Rick Hahn who traded for him or the people who have helped him develop once he came here ? Getz has been far from perfect.I think his 1st full year as GM was a huge learning process but he's got a firmer grip on the direction he's going now and managed to find good hires along the way. If you're impressed by the hires of McKinvin ,Fuller, Venable at least on the surface the rest of baseball seems to think those are good moves. Also recently there's been hope for a new owner. Chris Getz didn't prevent a multi billionaire to cancel his plans to buy the Twins and continue to buy more shares of the White Sox did he ? Every year that goes by brings us closer to new ownership and a possible ascension into being a real big league team again. It would be nice to think that Getz is putting in enough ground floor work to modernize the team and rebuild the infrastructure to get a new regime off to a good start. It'll take a few years to see if the restructuring of the International Department and building a new DR Academy and hiring David Keller will produce better results bringing in better talent from the Dominican Republic. That was a huge failure in every single year of JRs tenure as owner while Domincans have been flourishing in baseball for over 50 years. If you can name a single Dominican the Sox signed and became an All Star with the Sox you'd be the first because I'm pretty sure that player doesn't exist. So let's not pretend that how this franchise has been run into the ground has nothing to do with mismanagement and policies that have been in place for many many many years by the only guy who has been in charge the whole time.1 point
