This is an incredibly bizarre, poorly thought out, click-baity thread. Why do we need to build around speed specifically? Why would we expect a team very early in a rebuild with few building blocks in place to have all the attributes of its ideal roster in place already? For people to say there is no strategy is just straight up wrong. On the positional side, Getz has targeted hitters who get on base and make good swing decisions in almost all his major trades and with several recent draft picks. There is really no denying this and so far that strategy has provided quick wins with guys like Vargas & Meidroth looking like solid regulars. But honestly, that is more about providing a much needed floor of average contributors (something that the previous regime consistently undervalued) and from what we’ve read and seen they understand the need for athleticism and power. B. Montgomery and Teel both fit the billing in the single biggest trade of Gets’s career and so does Bonemer in the draft. More is going to be needed here, especially in the power department, but this is basically the first year of the org’s rebuild and power & athleticism aren’t easy to come by. On the pitching side we have Bannister and it’s clear as day they have a full fledged strategy there. Identify, select, and develop premium arms in the draft to anchor your future staff since we know we can’t afford those guys in free agency (at least under Jerry) and target lesser pure stuff guys on the cheap who offer unique pitch shapes, deliveries, and/or other attributes that generate weak contact. There is now a legit pitching lab in place to aid in our pitcher’s development and we are actually seeing evidence of biomechanics being used to both enhance offerings and to help establish ideal roles for our guys. Beyond that, it’s clear that pitching depth is highly important to front office and there was actually a glut of SP talent in AAA before the rash on injuries happened. And to be clear here, by no means am I saying this strategy is going to solve all our problems as much of this is stuff is common nature for modern orgs. But it can’t be stressed enough how behind the times we were and how basic improvements to our foundations can rapidly improve the quality of org. f***, I would happily take an average org from a scouting, player development, & analytics perspective and hope that Ishbia can eventually be a difference maker on the payroll side. Regardless, there is a real plan in place whether or not our very bad rebuilding roster has speed on it or not.

Gave this a listen this morning. Some good insight on some of the philosophical changes with the organization, particularly around pitching, as well as comments and updates on some of the interesting pitching in the system. One takeaway early on in the show is how much work they've done to modernize the organization. Definitely worth your time. Bannister is a fun listen.

Glad you posted it. I watched it right away because I subscribed to all Sox podcasts on YouTube to get as much info as possible. It had crossed my mind to do it but I figured with the state of the board it would just be considered Sox propaganda and the thread would die quickly. Plus there seems to be some misconception about how Biomechanics works with regard to injury prevention and rehabilitation which is impossible to do. Yes it's is often stated goals to help in those areas but arm injuries come from throwing a baseball hard and for many years. It's wear and tear and most pitchers have been doing it for a decade before most them ever get hooked up to motion capture technology. They try to identify areas of inefficient movement or bad mechanics before or after injury and make adjustments. I have no idea of the Sox employ an injury prevention specialist among their medical people in conjunction with the biomechanists but you need both to work hand in hand they do need medical training and certification with deep knowledge of kinesiology , sports medicine and physical therapy. The athlete has to do his part and develop good habits . There are no instant cures. Bodies will always break because of stressful forces. All they can do is make recommendations and you can't turn back the clock . Injuries are inevitable and fans are ill equipped to pass judgement on scientific and medical practices they are not involved with since they are not the player, coach, biomechanist nor the medical practitioner . The most efficient way to throw a baseball is underhanded . Unfortunately it is not the way to throw it the hardest or with the most accuracy. I have no clue how any other GM would operate under Reinsdorf. I doubt any of them really would want the job. But the reality is most organizations would have fired Getz as farm director. Let's not forget he was also a big voice in the Grifol hire and now you know why it took that long to fire him.

Hindsight and opposing GMs talk the talk but then they stop and think about it. I don't hold it against them for taking this risk. It's not like they are the only team that has done this. He would've been traded but the sad reality is a poor farm system and no suitable replacement. Imagine they have this lifetime hole in CF. I won't blame Hahn for KW meddling, for JR forcing LaRussa on him, or for budgetary restrictions. I will absolutely, 100% blame him for everything else. His free agent and trade records were ATROCIOUS. There was zero Latin pipeline. Their drafting was terrible. We've also heard departments were isolated from one another, and Bannister hinted at just how bad the state of data was before he took over. None of this is acceptable for a GM.

He is simply a cheap vet placeholder who comes with warts (including health) but has 100% outproduced his measly $2M salary. He's struggled a bit in his last 3 games, but overall in the last month he's dramatically cut down on the strikeouts and has a pretty solid line. 🤞he can keep it up.
