I see people on Reddit shitting on the Sox for this trade and some Sox fans regretting it. Hell no lol. Vaughn was never going to amount to s%*# on the Sox. Having him sink the Cubs was probably the best outcome from this trade aside from Civale becoming good again (never was happening).4 points

These shows are the same ones who just spent years calling Katz the pitcher whisperer, and Santos a future manager based on what the team was feeding them... yet hasn't asked what happened and why so far after they were unceremoniously dumped. It's the same ones who praised the last administration until they got fired, and then promptly switched sides. You'll have to excuse me if I don't take everything the Sox tell their reporters to report at face value.3 points

The next time I see you do any analysis will be the 1st. It's always the short term . To successful people 4 years is nothing. The ground is being lain for the future of the franchise. JR is entirely to blame. Give me your list of what Getz has sucked at since he became GM. Is the team not supposed to suck when the franchise bottomed out ? Could he have prevented the record breaking season. Probably but 121 or 110 losses hardly makes a difference except in how loud the fans cry. Has Getz yet traded away a Tatis, Jr or Marcus Semien right before the last rebuild started ? Getz hasnt even been given enough rope to screw things up. He's not being given any money . So all he can do is make some trades , make some good hires and build the infrastructure. Im not on an island here with my views. It's pretty common among people who do independent Sox podcasts that there are good things happening .I am a very well informed fan about things happening. Now of course I'm listening to Gene Watson and Paul Janish and others who only have belief that they are on the right track being interviewed by Chuck Garfien and others on CHSN. But there are examples all over the field of good things going on. To successful people you need a plan if you start at the bottom and aren't getting any money. Watson talked about how Getz came to him and asked him what he thought of Crochet being a starting pitcher . Have you ever even considered that Getz and the people he hired had anything to do with Crochet becoming a Starter, their plan to get him to the top of his game, keep him healthy and then to ultimately make a quality trade ? That was something no fan could've ever predicted happening . How about how the Sox hiree like Fuller and the R&D department not only got Colson refocused on his process and confidence and then as a finishing touch shortly after he was promoted recommended the torpedo bat. What about the huge success in the Rule 5 draft with Shane Smith and Vasil ? Isn't that another example of better scouting and development ? Didn't Vargas and Sosa becoming league average players when they both vouldve continued on their failure projectories mean things are working ? How about putting the rest of the rookies in a nurturing yet accountable and supportive environment to enable them to be productive ? Was that not a good thing happening as an organization? What about Birmingham's 2 straight AA championships ? Is that not a tangible thing that shows they can develop winning players and attitudes ? It's so easy to be cynical when youre surrounded by it. But as executives, and coaches you all want to be pulling on the same rope as far as developing a winning mindset.3 points

I stopped listening to the Watson podcast as soon as he talked about how fortunate they were to have LaRussa so involved.2 points

well, the point is simply...why would you non-tender an above average pitcher making next to nothing? feels spiteful because the Cease trade wasn't that hot.2 points

You should already know the back story. This isn’t confusing. Wilson was the final piece of the Cease trade and was acquired solely to be flipped for additional prospect(s). He failed miserably after the Sox acquired him in 2024 to the tune of a -0.6 bWAR and was untradeable. Wilson was then signed for $950K in January of this year which is barely over the minimum. A month later, Wilson was DFA’ed so the Sox could claim Brandon Eisert off waivers. Not one team was willing to claim Wilson at only around $200K over the minimum salary. So while it’s nice that Wilson can now serve a role as a cheap reliever on a non-competitive team, he was acquired to be flipped but he wrecked his own value immediately after coming to the Sox from the Padres. Meanwhile, Liam Hendriks was a very well paid and good closer on a competitive Sox team. Not really a good comparison.2 points

That’s a really tough way for the Cubs to go out. Steal the manager, pay him a ton of money and the Brewers are still better than you, by a decent margin. Pushed a lot of chips in for Tucker and not sure they even want him back, but his market will be super interesting. Will be a really interesting offseason for the Cubs, because they need a decent bit more to be considered a WS Contender1 point

after watching Vaughn's transformation, they absolutely needed to fire Thames. in fact that hire was absolute dog s%*# when it happened, he had no right being any sort of hitting instructor in the majors. but I'm sure he was affordable1 point

This feels like the most important inning of the game for the brewers with runners on and heart of the lineup. Have to go with your best and to me that’s Uribe.1 point

Seattle easily beats that offer to keep him. I'll be shocked if he signs for less than a 20M AAV.1 point

This. It’s endlessly amusing to see “they’re going to start using analytics”. Great, they finally got around to seeing Moneyball 15 years too late. Do something useful, not something that brings you within 10 years of what everyone else is already doing.1 point

I'd spend the $80M it would take to get Naylor, then buy $80M worth of Rogaine to get the hair back on my head. And my legs, too.1 point

Munetaka Murakami would be the #1 option for me. After him, it'd be signing younger players to 3-5 year deals at $5-$10 mil per year higher than they'd be getting elsewhere, or whatever it would take to get them to come here. This would both give the current team a much needed shot in the arm, and worst case you could trade them in 2-4 years for quality prospects if things don't go well. I likely wouldn't consider players much over 30 years old on anything except short term deals, with the intent to trade them in a year or two. Younger players I'd consider: Kyle Tucker Josh Naylor Dylan Cease Ranger Suarez Zac Gallen Pete Alonso (He'll be 31 but his profile should age well. That said he'd come here and hit .220 with 18 HRs) Bo Bichette (not likely unless he's willing to move to third or second, or Colson moves to third)1 point

$160 million Josh Naylor: UFA, $60 million 4 yr contract Shane Bieber: opts out of player option, $75 million 3 yr contract Devin Williams: UFA, $10 million 2 yr contract Adrian Houser: UFA, $15 million 2yr contract1 point

Honestly I would stay the F..k away from Schwarber. Typical Sox signing that will decline with the Sox. Plus he's 341 point

I'd sign Josh Naylor. Left-handed power, good hit tool, can steal you a base, and fiery presence. He's also been around long enough to check the veteran box.1 point

Haha, I guess everything is perspective. Now imagine being a fan of a team that has gone 162-324 over the last 3 seasons and doesn’t have a single player anywhere near as good as Jose Ramirez. Sox fans should get the entire Tribune and Sun Times to air their complaints, not just one page. 🤣1 point

If only Sox fans could have Guardiams' fans "problems" in terms of playoff histories since the mid 90s. https://champsorchumps.us/team/mlb/cleveland-guardians 9 times in the post season from 2007 onwards. White Sox 3. 6/7 from 1995-2001 15 playoff appearances since the 1994 strike year. White Sox=4, 5 if you go back one more year to 19931 point

Shouldn’t this thread go in “The Diamond Club”? It doesn’t look like he ever played for the White Sox. And not to excuse the cheap teams out there, but if this guy wasn’t an absolutely terrible pitcher, some teams would have valued him more and paid him. It would be like Cam Booser complaining about the Sox being cheap to him. 🤣1 point
