I have forgotten what it’s like to root for a team that actually signs players you can expect to be good.8 points

Any Getz victory is a White Sox victory. Are you not OK with that ?3 points

You’re not wrong, but this is the perfect time for them to take a risk. The payroll is basically non-existent. If he doesn’t translate, then it’s unfortunate but at least they tried. But there is also the possibility that he is a monster. And he fits in perfectly from an age/skillset standpoint.2 points

So the front office isn’t interested in a 25 year old left handed hitter with massive power. Another slapdick hitting 2nd baseman is more up their alley. Lol.2 points

Hey Chris Getz finally listened to me!2 points

The stadium thing is really easy. The owners of the Bears do not have the wealth to build the stadium alone. They need assistance or leverage the team. They could save 30% if not more building in Indiana and probably at least 15% building outside of Cook County. If the state is not going to help offset the cost of building in Illinois and Cook v Indiana they will not be playing in Illinois. Indiana having two great domed stadiums while Illinois has no legitimate stadium in the entire state. Illinois pisses away billions on nonsense. This is a no brainer for Illinois and I do not care if Economists say it is not worth it. A good amount of government expenditures are nonsense. I'm Ron Swanson and I approve of this message2 points

The competitive balance pick is huge as well. Extra bonus pool space and pick number 33 is massive for a team like the Rays. Sheesh.2 points

That’s the Orioles #10, #11, and #30 prospects according to MLB Pipeline, and I’m sure the Rays chose wisely as usual.2 points

I cannot imagine how anyone could see how Reinsdorf teams have operated for ~40+ years and think he'd be willing to operate at a loss for 1 year let alone several.1 point

He has massive raw power but it's really frightening strikeout potential and in zone swing and miss rates. Like some of the worst in the league as soon as he signs. He might be able to overcome it with his power but this isn't some home run signing. He's incredibly risky.1 point

Some buddies and I split a 20 game plan (4 tix) and through that we were able to get two free tix for Friday night Sox Fest. They have various payment plan options you can pick from (we're on the 10-month plan as returning members, but looks like there's PIF, 50/50, 5 & 8 month options online), but it honestly depends on what's in your budget and how many games you're looking for. You might be best off giving them a call since they can provide you with more definitive answers, but I'd guess that if you commit to a plan that it's not going to be refundable.1 point

Lining up Justin Ishbia as the next owner of the team and taking action before Ishbia went ahead and bought the Twins. If this indeed goes through, I'll give JR kudos for making this happen. Double kudos if this leads to a privately-financed new stadium for the ballclub. The team also did win the World Series under his ownership. As much as there was a "lightning in a bottle" component to their championship in 2005, Jerry was still the owner and this obviously was the crowning achievement of his ownership.1 point

I just finished watching Ken Burns' American Revolution documentary on PBS....great show by the way! The map they show of Boston during the colonial period is incredible. The amount of the current city that is infill is almost hard to believe.1 point

I think landing the Bears would be a major coup for the State of Indiana and Northwest Indiana. I expect their politicians would move heaven and earth to get a deal done and NO Indiana elected officials are going to lose an election for bringing the Bears to their area. In fact, I expect the opposite would be true - Indiana politicians from both sides of the aisle will have a field day telling their constituents how they got the iconic Chicago Bears to relocate across state lines. IMHO opinion, it would be a gigantic black eye to Chicago and the State of Illinois to lose the Bears. It would just reaffirm to everyone that people and businesses are fleeing the city and state because it's not friendly to businesses. Other cities and states get major projects done while Illinois/Cook County is where projects like this go to die so that politicians can say they stuck it to business owners because they're rich. It would be different if the Bears were asking for public funding for the stadium itself. But for a state to blunder its way out of an NFL franchise and $2B in private investment for the stadium itself because they won't budge on infrastructure spending and property tax relief sends a bad signal to the business community. Oh, and Illinois and Cook County can say goodbye to a lot of Taylor Swift-type mega concerts, NCAA tournaments, etc. if NW Indiana builds a climate-controlled 65k seat fixed-roof stadium. It won't only be about the 9 or 10 Bears games per season they're losing.1 point

And then you factor in the mans relationship with a guy like Mel Brooks, and the generational effect that group had on GenX is crazy.1 point

Two A level coaches that are not attributed to baseball ops were deemed the best in their field so there appears to be something positive.1 point

They didn’t tear it down to studs like they are now in 2016. And they did nothing to address any of the shortcomings of the organization, or bring in any outsiders. Reading this article, it seems like that’s different this time, so there’s reason for optimism. Will it work? I don’t know but it’s certainly different.1 point

While I can't say I feel great that Getz is the one leading this, it's what they absolutely should be doing, so it's nice to see from that standpoint.1 point
