  1. Among the seas of failure, this guy has been incredible. Since debuting last year, he has been the 15th most valuable player in baseball per fWAR, the 8th best defensive player based on an aggregate of the 5 most viable major defensive metrics, he has the 7th most home runs, the 5th most RBI's, and his wRC+ of 128 is 2 points behind Bobby Witt (130). He has been a SUPERSTAR. He's currently on a 6.5 WAR pace and that's with running a .239 BABIP. The only thing Colson needs to work on is his base running. When he started slow, the negative nancy's were out in full force. When he had one rough year in the minors, most jumped off the wagon. Kid is an elite athlete, with a great swing and incredible range. Give him his roses, because the White Sox aren't even giving him the respect he deserves and has earned. Most underrated and overlooked player in MLB. What he's doing as a 23 year old player with 80 games under his belt is wild.
  2. 10 - 15. Could easily be 13 -12
  3. Maybe they can get creative and do something similar to Ohtani, offload the bulk of the contract to Ishbia years.
  4. Acuna would be a great pinch runner.
  5. Vargas is on pace for more than thirty homeruns and stolen bases, and more than a hundred walks
  6. That was the devil's play. 6-6-6 double play
  7. They were screwed either way?
  8. it's wild that last year he was rocking a 12.14 AB/HR pace, and as of yesterday he's at the same exact pace, bizarre
  9. Two tracks run underneath the 3rd base seats at Target Field.
  10. 3 points
So far, I think so. Good reads and instincts, covers ground pretty well. Would definitely put him there before Braden.
  11. Having an opinion is not the same as caring. It's honestly fascinating how taking non controversial positions (like if you have one of the the best shortstops in baseball, he should play shortstop) here at soxtalk lead to the same 3-4 people defending the stupidity and talking about how unhappy you must be for not supporting clearly dumb choices. As stated earlier, if Getz and Veneable started batting Mune and Colson 8-9, the same few posters would be defending it for lineup flexibility... no matter how clearly wrong something is, some will justify and defend.... and then victimize.
  12. Why are we comparing Pereira to Robert? They weren’t involved in the same trade and play different positions. The obvious comparison is Acuna and Robert as they both play CF and were traded for each other. Yes, Robert has slumped lately but the Sox could have Robert in CF and Pereira in RF right now.
  13. How about this? The weather has warmed here in Chicago and may the Home Run barrage continue. Two series wins on this homestand seem possible. I feels good to actually be considering this as possible intead of just hoping.
  14. And this is why Soxtalk was mored productive before your "VPN got fixed".
  15. I actually kind of liked (kind of being the operative word) Schifrin's call of his home run last night. "Show me the Muni..."
  16. Third worst run differential in baseball. They right where they belong, but they actually have 4 big league starters this year, 5 when Teel is back. Pereira could maybe make six!
  17. Benintendi gets some good pitches with Murakami behind him
  18. No one expected that. lol.
  19. There's my leadoff hitter
  20. SUCK IT BENI HATERS!!!!
  21. Teel needs to come back so badly. Good grief.
  22. Our catchers this year have been so brutal. Please stay healthy Teel.
  23. Nothing he could really do there, it was almost certain 2 no matter what
  24. not sure what you can do there, if the runners don't advance, it's an easy double play regardless
  25. All tied up, keep the line moving
  26. There was a chopper last night and he let the ball play him TA style but he instantly reacted and fired a strike to first. Style wise just reminded me of uribe even tho totally different body types -- same soft hands tho. Whereas a SS like TA was always fighting something mechanics wise more naturally instinctual players don't even need perfect mechanics.
  27. Defensively, he reminds me a lot of JJ Hardy, but with a little better range and a little lighter arm. Super smooth, and makes all the plays look easier than they are. Offensively, he's his own guy - unique to his position. He reminds me a little of a young Bellinger with the violence and path of his swing, with a little less unwinding/corking. He's got a lot more power than Seager, but Seagers hit tool is much better. If I had to pick a short stop, the guy most similar to him, in my opinion, plays today for the Orioles. Him and Gunnar are a lot a like, difference being Gunnar has already dropped an 8 WAR season in his career.
  28. He is a unicorn. There's never been a SS in MLB history with his batting profile, at least so far. I mean who is the last MLB SS to be on pace for 40+ HR, 6 WAR, while hitting 230? It's probably never happened. Part of it is environment but part of it is just Colson is insane.
  29. Market it as M&M. We can even do a promo for a yellow winter jacket in July
  30. Four factoids today: April 23, 1919 - Perhaps the greatest White Sox team ever, in terms of talent, opened the season in St. Louis destroying the Browns 13-4. Claude ‘‘Lefty’’ Williams got the win throwing a complete game. This time however, six months later, after winning the American League pennant, the ‘‘Black Sox’’ reportedly threw the series and lost to the Cincinnati Reds. Eight players would be banned the following year, including Williams, and the only franchise capable of stopping the emerging New York Yankees juggernaut was decimated. April 23, 1949 - Sox left hander Billy Pierce won his first Major League game. Pierce came in to relieve starter Al Gettel, throwing almost four scoreless innings, and got the decision as the Sox won 12-5 against the Browns at Comiskey Park. Billy would win 186 games with the Sox, make the All-Star team seven times as their representative, throw four one-hitters and finish with 211 wins overall in his brilliant career. April 23, 1955 - The White Sox hammered the Athletics 29-6 at Kansas City. The 29 runs were an American League record that stood until 2007. The Sox collected 29 hits that afternoon as well with seven home runs. Every starter had at least one hit including pitcher Jack Harshman. Bob Nieman had seven RBI’s with Sherm Lollar and “Minnie” Minoso adding five each. Nieman went 3 for 4 with a pair of home runs. Perhaps most unique of all, with two hits in both the second and sixth innings, Lollar became the only player in MLB history with two hits in two separate innings of a single game. April 23, 1990 - It was an unusual event even though it happened in an exhibition game. Utility player Steve “Psycho” Lyons played all nine positions for the Sox during the annual “Crosstown Classic” game against the Cubs at Wrigley Field. Manager Jeff Torborg moved him all over the field during the contest won by the Sox 6-5. Outfielder Dave Gallagher threw out the potential tying run at home plate to end the game.
  31. They just had a "one good week" which put them back up on a 63 win pace. I am still #team69, but in that general vicinity makes sense to me. It gets better, but there are still a TON of holes here that will keep them away from meaningful baseball.
  32. Its April 23. Jose Soriano and Aaron Ashby are on pace to be the first starting pitchers to go undefeated in a full season since Buck O'Brien went 20-0 in 1912. If they have one good week, their "on pace" record looks completely different. You guys think they will win only 63 games? I'll take that bet.
  33. Soxtalk is not the only hate repository for Schriffen?
  34. You obviously care or you are a generally unhappy person to think you are the end all be all of how a MLB franchise should be run and that you have all the answers. You are here ripping on people who in general just enjoy Sox baseball and provide valuable insight and information to our fanbase. They are not disenchanted with most things White Sox as you seem to be while claiming you don't care. If you didnt care you'd just go root for another team that you feel make all the right moves . Or you just shut up because people who dont care tune out which you arent doing. You seem to enjoy taking potshots at an organization you don't care about and doing the same to people here who are generally content with how the team is progressing considering the owner decided to do the bare minmum as he prepares to sell the team. Everyone else is dumb or a sheep or water carrier if they dont agree with you.
  35. Colson notably didn't hit any until 14 games in, so his first 10 were actually in an 18 game stretch Two scary guys at the plate
  36. At this rate he may have those numbers by the end of May Damn hope he doesnt find SoxTalk
  37. 1 point
Zavala is consistently given the team's award for best defensive outfielder. He is slightly better out there than Braden. That said, Braden's not bad out there. He'd be serviceable especially if he's flanked by rangy outfielders like Pereira and Peters or even Hays.
  38. Well we know Bears aren't trading the 57th pick at least.
  39. I wonder if anyone else ever got to 10 career homers before he hit a double. It's been incredible.
  40. 4 times in a row and 6 times total, 25 games into the season. Judge and Stanton are at 55 times (not counting playoffs) since 2018. Keep at this pace and Mune/Montgomery can catch up in two seasons or so Also saw this after the first Dbacks game: The 4th time would have netted $20m+ but also probably sent some guys in black suits to your door lol
  41. Will be funny if tomorrow is like a 4-2 game with the roof closed lol, I'm sure someone somewhere tracks stadium open/closed splits.
  42. Sucks that Kay didn't have much today. Offense came to play and there's probably different pen arms in the game with a different score. Maybe should have walked Ildemaro the second time lol Chase Field looks so nice with the roof open, it's a shame all the retractable stadiums just end up being closed more often than not. Pretty sure the broadcast said it will be closed tomorrow so we'll see which of the streaks can keep going. Soroka's had a good year, won't be an easy matchup. Only 1 HR allowed in 3 home starts, but lefties are hitting .293 against him.
  43. Not a bad loss in my book. The young slugging core had great games at the dish. Some old guys who suck gave up a bunch of runs. Okay.
  44. I could exhaust the effort of locating whatever fall league post game or Sox blog interview, but what exactly would be the point? You've already indicated that you would wave it off as something he's just saying to be a "good soldier" because you've already decided that you're right. That's fine! I'm not here to bicker with you. The overwhelming majority of what I post here is MiLB content, bits of news, quirky statistics, and my personal opinions. If you interpret that as spin or whatever then I happily, eagerly encourage you to utilize the ignore feature instead of the random personal accusations.
  45. They wont trade him until it appears they have to which would be trade deadline next year and he has refused to sign an extension no matter what the offer is. No idea if there will be an offer worthy especially without Ishbia's help. The only way JR resigns him is if he's attracting a lot of sponsorship deals and could bring in close to what the contract offer is. Not sure how likely that is since we aren't privy to financial info. We also arent entirely sure how open to being resigned Mune is or his feelings about how he fits in here with his young teammates. The length of his 2 year contract with the Sox was his idea since he wasnt getting huge offers just so he'd have time to adjust to the league and still enter free agency relatively young and still able to attract big offers. It would also help for the Sox to keep winning and generate some excitement and get big crowds and have Japanese style ways of cheering like hitting those inflatable clappers together like they did in Anaheim when they had Ohtani. People need to be supportive now if they want to have any chance at all of retaining him. It may only end in more disappointment but you never know until you try.
  46. I mean really, either way is weird. Ultimately though, if they’re winning that’s what we all want anyways so whatever.
  47. Agreed. It must be maddening to Ishbia if he has to sit back and watch this franchise being driven further into the ground and lose more of the next generation of Chicago fans as good players continue to be traded away as soon as they get close to a big payday. JR could hold on to this team for up to another 8 years. That hole to climb out of to gain back market share in Chicago is going to be a lot deeper in 2034.
