  1. I don't want to trade for a 36-year-old & a woman abuser.
  2. Shut your god damn mouth. Studlin will be back soon and better than ever.
  3. I think anything people are hearing right now is purposeful misdirection leaked by front offices in hopes of keeping prices down on guys they like. Roch could be a “distant third” but zero reason for Sox front office members to share that info with the likes of Keith Law, Jim Callis, etc. if true. This is no different than how we should all process leaks at the trade deadline or offseason.
  4. I don’t disagree, I just want to see the super team in a few years with Bonemer and BMont on the corners with a big FA signing in CF, Mune at DH and an infield of Vargas, Ant, Roch and Colson.
  5. It's honestly a bit of a fairy tale if you'd say that 18 months ago coming off that season that in 1.5 years you'd have a .530 winning percentage, a positive RD, a 78 million dollar payroll with no bad contracts other than one remaining Beni year, a 20 WAR type position player core -- and oh, you get the 1,1 too, with all the benefits that entails throughout the draft.
  6. The general consensus here is that the Sox will take Roch; those on here who seem to have some connections seem to think it's likely Roch. Law says that the scouts want Emerson and the FO wants Lackey and Roch is a distant 3rd. Like 2 years ago, when my only request was to not take Smith, the bloggers and those "in the know" would say "don't worry; they're not taking a pitcher." Of course, no one had much of an idea as the candidates all had questions. But last year, everyone nailed the Carlson pick. I am just excited to find out who it will be.
  7. The situation is a "bit of a mess" because you have three guys worthy of 1,1? That sounds like the opposite of a mess imo.
  8. Our old friend Reynaldo Lopez get the start the other day and went 5 strong with 1 ER. I always had a soft spot for him, even if his pitching drove us wild at times.\ He pitched well again last night looks like. Maybe we'll see him in the WS!
  9. Sonny Gray and Aroldis Chapman just seems too perfect in terms of needs and commitment to players
  10. I don't know really the answer here, which makes me lean to 'cut a deal', but there's no obvious deal. I'd be happiest with Roch, and am just sanguine on Emerson. For a hs shortstop, i'd prefer some louder athletic tools. I am just gonna hope it works out.
  11. They need everything. Cronenworth is one of the worst players in baseball now. The Padres window is closed IMO.
  12. I fully expect Bonemer to be our LF within two years. And I don’t think Chase will hold onto to 2B long-term…just not sure yet who will displace him. And for now, I think Peters may hold onto CF. I think our money goes toward extending Mune and adding pitching. If Peters falls off a cliff, I think you end up trading for a CF down the road, but with his defense I think he’s going to get an extended run here.
  13. Now it’s truly MUNE DAY! Appropriate too since his assignment for rehab starts today too!!! LETS GO!!!!
  14. Not sure you can call Benintendi as “albatross” at this point. He’s not worth his contract, but he’s found a role he can be productive in and only has a year left on his contract. If a better option comes along, we can get the bulk of his contract and likely move him (pending Jerry not being a cheap f*** like usual).
  15. Congrats to Ben Peoples on his MLB debut. 2 scoreless with 2 hits and 1 K. Not an indictment of the trade just noting the guy made it and for whatever reason it didn't seem it was going to happen here.
  16. Getz has been better than I expected at talent evaluation and outstanding at employing "lateral thinking" to solve problems, something I would bet you guys are familiar with in your professions. Getz screws up by trading Robert Jr. to obtain Acuna believing that he would be a good switch-hitting CF. Of course he doesn't switch hit and has issues gauging flyballs. Getz quickly acknowleges his mistake and pulls a banana out of his @ss to play CF. Peters has been the best CF we have had out there since crash Rowand or Chet the Jet, and he has been a notable clutch hitter. Another example of lateral thinking was putting Antonacci in LF. Some argued he would be a defensive liability. Yes, but overall getting Sam in the line-up along with Chase has worked out. Finally, the Dominguez signing which looks like a big mistake. OK, move Grant Taylor to Closer and perhaps bring up McDougal to bolster the back of the bullpen. Fans including myself have been critical of Getz et. al. but then look up - we are in First Place.
  17. I'd have a hard time rooting for him as well.
  18. I went there with my girlfriend twice to see Baker Mayfield play football since she's a huge OU fan. There's probably two hotels I'd recommend to go to and that's it. Stay inside at night. I felt better in downtown Detroit.
  19. Just want to point out that Bonemer will be ready next year to take a spot; Emerson should extend the window....a window that should be open a decade + (unless we start doing stupid stuff). One thing I prefer about Roch is that he bats right... right handed hitting proficiency is becoming a scarce commodity.
  20. I remember this game vividly with Grandal going down. 2022 was such a painful season. I went to Cleveland with my dad in 21 to watch the boys clinch the division. In 2019, we wanted to start an annual traditional of visiting a road park in September each year. Vibes were high then. Then 2020 happened. Glad we made it happen in 21 post-COVID, then the Sox broke us in 22 and we haven't been since. We are starting it back up this year in STL mid September. Hope we're able to do a few more before we're unable, my dad is in his mid-70s now. Anyways, I really enjoyed the park, and felt Cleveland gets a bad rap. We stayed a few blocks from the park, ate good steaks, enjoyed some good cocktails, played at the casino, caught the ball games. Damn good weekend, if you ask me.
  21. Unfortunately, this is something to get used to. Games on Apple TV, Peacock, Amazon Prime, etc. Different streaming services all over the place. Being in Iowa, I have to pull channel 19.3 off of the antenna and stream it over my network. CHSN is hard to get otherwise. Iowa is considered black out area for MLB TV (along with Cubs, Brewers, Royals, Cardinals, and Twins). Peacock is actually much easier for me to work with. MLB really needs to get it together to make it easier for fans to see who they want wherever they want.
  22. Any big name you can pretty much not expect the Sox to acquire. They're not going to trade away their top young assets. They're going to be very selective about getting a good deal. I wouldn't expect too much. If Sonny Gray is mostly a cash deal maybe him. Maybe can add an under rated RP or 2 also but maybe the help comes from within since we have a lot of young arms mending. Hell the team has ridden the youth this far might as well just let it ride.
  23. He did a great job with Tristan Peters. He also did a great job with acquiring Vargas, who I was very wrong about. But what I said is still true. He still burns $30 million each offseason on crappy free agents. But that’s pretty much free agency for you unless you are going after the no brainer top talent, or getting luck with fliers like Peters.
  24. I have to admit a bias against high school prospects. I understand the metrics and so on about youth and upside so I'm not actually against a strategy that emphasizes high schoolers. But as a fan who wants to have an opinion about specific players, I just find it very difficult to know whether Grady Emerson is going to be good. It's harder to see him play and it's really hard to evaluate the level of competition. These are obviously problems that affect the MLB scouts looking at him too but they have more resources and such. So it's hard for me to have a strong opinion on Emerson without relying a lot on what other people say. This isn't fair at all but he also seems un-charismatic to me in interviews and watching him on the field. Roch entered the year in pole position and I don't think he really lost it but he also didn't run away with it either. I think there's a bit under the hood to suggest he improved as a player but you could argue part of that rests on last year's production being perhaps overheated/fake/whatever. I believe in some players being safer bets than others but I don't really believe anybody is truly a safe bet. Would you be shocked if Roch Cholowsky initially posts a .650 OPS in high A?
  25. Disappointing doesn’t mean bad though. Obviously you want to see a player to continue ascending, but his sophomore season was really fucking good. And none of that takes into account a plus defensive profile at SS. I still think Roch will be the pick, but I trust Shirley to make the right pick. I just hope the front office doesn’t overrule him and force him to go with the college player if they do in fact prefer Emerson.
  26. CityFan Jr. and I will be in the house Wednesday night! Great split. I was very frustrated Thursday and Friday with those outcomes, but man this team just picks themselves up and digs deep when they need to. The entire series was a +1 RDIFF for the Sox. Just very competitive. Sometimes I think myself (and a lot of us) live and die with every game almost with a CFB and NFL mentality. 12 or 17 games makes every game a must win…and baseball is different, even playing against a division rival with whom you’re battling for the top of the division. We’ve gone from a win being nice to a win being the expectation and that shifts the mindset of fans. Let’s go 4-2 minimum this week and into the break on a huge positive note!
  27. Yeah, this is literally a once in a generation opportunity. It sounds like a very good draft year with 3 guys in the running for a solid 1.1 pick. All things being equal, I'd rather not use the pick for a HS player unless he's a Bryce Harper/B Witt Jr-level generational talent. I don't know who I want them to pick, I just hope they totally nail this pick. Totally whiffing on #3 and #4 overall in recent years really stings....and perhaps whiffing with taking Smith #5 overall over some players already finding success. But we can't flop with the #1 overall pick. Also, the rest of the draft is a great opportunity for the Sox and this is a good chance to have some success beyond the 1:1. I'm eager to see who they select after the 1st round.
  28. Yeah, he can't give him credit. Against his whole brand.
  29. Alright. I’m finally locked in. Roch should indeed be the pick. Eventually on moving Colson to third ( protect his back and he’s probably going to give better D there than Vargas ), move Vargas to first / DH with Mune ( in the event we extend him ), and benefit from his defense from day one in mid 27 or day one 28. You also get a chance to flex on the development side if you’re able to help him unlock his pull side power ( which we have seen Fuller have success with ). I think he will be the pick and I think it’s the right one. If Lackey was willing and truly athletic enough to excel in a up the middle role on the grass then I would have been swayed to take that kid. Emerson we’d be banking on our development staff having their time to mold him into a player that has more output than Roch but I’m not willing to take that gamble with this staff nor do I want to wait for at least an extra year when our window is already open. I’m going to be on the edge of my seat until Saturday and really hope whatever happens - it ends up being the right draft selection. We’ve missed high in the first round more than we have hit and at 1.1 you CANNOT afford to miss. I feel that this decision, if made correctly, is one of the few things that would push us to an era of controlling the central and finally having the sustained success promised by dweebs of years passed.
  30. People were talking about this being an historically bad OF before the season. Nobody needs to prove anything at this point. If they keep Periera through the end of the year and off-season, they still have 4 young, controlled, strong OFs. Let's not forget Brooks Baldwin. And Tanner Murray probably could have started to figure out hitting in the bigs in a few more weeks.
  31. Reading the game thread after my last post in it 2 hours after the game. My goodness most of you are crazy ! It's just one game in the middle of the season. It was like y'all expected to lose. I must really be the oddball that after so many years of watching Sox baseball I don't get bothered by close games or losses. I do get excited when they do good things just not bummed after the wheels fall off slightly. s%*# happens. See ya in the playoffs where you can really lose your minds !
  32. Dudes psycho… and not in the positive Sam Antonacci best of ways 😆😆😆
  33. Given the state of the pitching staff and the lousy weather this weekend for them to come back and gain a split is tremendous and says something about their toughness. A well deserved off day to give the pitchers a rest should help before the home stand leading into the break. You have to tip your hat to them the way they responded.
  34. And for everybody who has demanded Trevor Richards be DFAed after every pitch, he has a 1.42 ERA in his last 12 appearances.
  35. The week ahead has the hot( 8 wins in last ten) Red Sox and the cool (3-7 in last 10) A's coming to Sox park. Right now Sox will face 4 lefty starters ,one righty, one tba this week. Would be nice if Sox could get their right handed outfielder( Pereira) back. Big week for Grichuk and Acuna. Red Sox are bad at home but 23-21 on road. Meanwhile, guardians go to twins so someone( hopefully guards) is going to lose ground. Finish 1st half strong,Sox!
  36. It's crazy how in the moment people emotionally react. Grant Taylor gets a 1,2,3 save and he is the second coming of Mariano Rivera. Next night he walks 2 and let's up a run and those same posters start saying hehe just doesn't have it, not closer material, hope he can stick as a middle reliever.
  37. ...and it seems like no love is lost between Naylor and his old teammates.
  38. These guys do not care about the previous days. Splitting that after two walk offs is huge.
  39. 1 point
Another Boston Smith homer. This guy just rakes.
  40. 1 point
Solid outing from Gabe Davis. 4 IP, 1 ER (solo shot), 2 H, 1 BB, 5 K. Some good adjustments after a rough welcome to AA.
  41. 1 point
  42. This is what sways me off Emerson exactly but I acknowledge that I don’t know about the kid as much as others here do.
  43. Every time he comes in and throws a first pitch ball that’s way off, in my head I hear Mike Singletary saying “can’t trust him. Can’t win with him”.
