I just have no idea how the White Sox could possibly allow/promote/be OK with all of this stuff if they didn't think it was near certain. How else does this organization survive the disappointment after all of this stuff they have openly catered to?

I think it's pretty obvious we are getting Machado. I've always felt that way. I sure hope he arrives before the end of next week though. It'd be dumb for him to sit out any more of ST than that.

Ok, so can I resubmit my advice politely? You didn’t just take out the mean parts, you took out everything. @SoxAce, don’t abandon your child. Take responsibility for what happened. You might not want to be a dad, but you made a mistake and that’s the result, especially since she plans on keeping him/her. Work to rebuild that relationship however you can and be there for the kid in any way you can. Whether you realize it or not, that kid is going to think about you and wonder why you’re not there. It was a constant thought for my wife (somewhat different situation, but similar enough), and when I deal with troubled kids at my school, you’d be shocked at how often the lack of a father figure comes up. I’ve even heard kids explain their poor behavior themselves by pointing out that it might be different if they had dads. Don’t let that be your child. You’ll regret it a lot more down the road if you do. Sorry that I came off as harsh last night, but I’ve seen how this plays out further on. With everyone focusing on how you should protect yourself, I feel obliged to point out a different path. Please consider it.

For Messrs. Machado and Harper, Mr. Reinsdorf is “chasing the market” on both, meaning he’s waiting for the collective action of the market to eventually set the price for each that he needs to beat to make the kind of offer to entice them to sign on with the White Sox. From the beginning, it was the Sox’ only chance to get either - to offer a certain amount more than any other team would be willling to pay them to incentivize either to come ply their trade on the South Side. That’s why the Sox are still very much in on both - they’re playing the waiting game to see where the market finally lands on both guys before they make just-the-right above market offer to both, which they are equipped to do given their payroll flexibility. This long wait only increases the Sox’ chance of landing one or maybe both of these guys. The market price for both will be set soon. The Sox appear to be prepared to react to that, no matter what it eventually turns out to be, and when all is said and done, will leave the best financial offer on the table for both. What both players choose to do with those offers will remain to be seen, but I believe in both cases, if the Sox don’t land either whale, it won’t be because they didn’t leave the best possible financial offer on the table.
