  1. Did I anoint him Andrew Miller? I don’t recall doing that. i think it’s more likely that you just blindly call every reliever that gives up a run a stiff and call for their mindless release/DFA, over and over and over again.

  2. LMAO fuck off Rondon.

  3. Do people who complain about bunting realize that a bunt for a hit and a sacrifice are two different plays with two different signs from the third base coach? Or that sometimes players choose to bunt for a hit on their own? Obviously we don’t know what was called in that last inning (I’m guessing Cordell did it on his own and Leury got a bunt for a hit sign), and I’m not arguing for or against it, but it seems like some people here don’t understand the full concept of bunting.

  4. He was not getting that ball 4 call last year

  5. I agree. Leave him down until 5/1/20. Blame it on wanting him to come up when it's not as cold. IDGAF. I want this guy for as long as possible.

  6. Because he does. Running to first, playing the field, whatever. I guess his friendship with Machado makes him think he has the talent level of Machado.

  7. You know what would be real nice? Lopez gets this final out and then Eloy leads off with a bomb.

  10. You're enjoying the game by posting this garbage throughout? At least you didn't chalk it up to "I was trying to jinx it!!!" again. Be a fan. Hope Lopez does better. But "he'll probably suck again" = "tomorrow the sky will be blue" = "grass is green." It's obvious and goes without saying. Predict something less easy.

  11. He's now 4 for his last 7. Now that he's passed the .200 point in his BA, look out.

  12. You were calling Bummer a stiff last summer and requesting his DFA (when he still had options). Just remember that.

  14. I would not be making trades for futures at this stage of the rebuild. Time to make our trades for major league ready pieces.

  15. All I know is that if they empty out the bullpen fora prospect, they better hit on the prospect. This is a little different than trading for Rutherford. You didn’t need a good bullpen for a couple of years back then, but you will next year.Since a lot of their minor leaguers they thought would be holding don bullpen roles now are hurt, it would make for a huge dilemma next year if you expected to be good. It also would mean this team would probably lose 87-90 games. And would that stunt development ?

  17. I think that in a non contending season, you always sell relievers. Colome and Bummer can go. Reliever performance is incredibly volatile from season to season. Sell high whenever you can. I'm not sure what to do with Abreu.

  18. Walker who is a left-handed centerfielder having a breakout season; Rutherford is a left-handed rightfielder finally on the bounceback and is young for AA; and Collins is a young, left-handed catcher who just made the bigs. And we just want a "decent" starting pitcher? This is how we end up with Tatis for Shields.

  20. Garfien was asking on Twitter yesterday if the Sox have ever played well in Oakland. I told him to look up the records between 1977 and 1982 for his answer. Yeah it's a quirky ballpark and that does give the A's an advantage much like the Metrodome did for the Twins but when you cut through everything in a lot of those years, the small market A's have simply put a better product out there than the Sox. That's a front office issue...not a stadium one. By the way the A's just got Homer Bailey from K.C. for a minor league player.

  21. Oh, I’m skeptical too. Just saying getting a guy like May warrants blowing up the bullpen because it allows us to allocate more financial resources to the bullpen.
    1 point
  22. I agree, but let’s say you can get May for Colome & Bummer. Add one quality free agent starter (say Wheeler as an example) and suddenly you have a rotation of Giolito, Wheeler, Cease, Kopech, & May. That is a cheap (like $20M next year), incredibly talented rotation that sets you up for years to come. Plus you have Rodon coming back to fill in for one of the young guys in the second half and Dane Dunning to eventually factor in the mix as needed. At that point, you can easily move Lopez to the bullpen and try him in a setup role. Fry is still around and I still believe he can be a damn good LH reliever. Herrera has been complete garbage this year, but I still believe he’s not 100% yet and I’m ok gambling on him being an effective middle reliever next year. We’d have to add two high end relievers via free agency and probably at least one lesser guy to fill a role until one of our younger guys is ready, but I think it’s definitely doable.

  32. Had Leury and Moncada, two of your fastest guys on the team not named Tim Anderson, mot stealing again to avoid the double play. Predictably, the Sox hit into one afterwards (only shocking thing was it wasn't Abreu).

  33. I am positive most of the time, I would say. This has been a brutal series man. lol. Garbage throughout? I got negative when it looked like Lopez was falling apart. Just like the majority of the fan-base likely did. For Christ's sake. You're way too wrapped up in the aside comments people throw out onto a game thread. We all react to the ups/downs of games in different fashions. That's what makes the forum interesting. I have never permeated a thread with negativity. Hell, I was the one on Friday night defending Nova's recent performance after he had just surrendered 3 early earned runs. The reverse jinxing thing was largely from ONE game thread and if you didn't think that was creepily awesome... you're just not fun to watch baseball with. You're also way too caught up with how "smart" or "dumb" you are perceived as by other posters. WAAAAAAYYY too concerned with what people will say about your post later. I say what I am feeling or thinking in a moment. If I am wrong, who cares? That's how it goes. Just relax dude. Watch the game. Stop trying to police others for totally benign posts. This forum and these game threads not that serious. Cheers.

  38. If y'all haven't seen the Jomboy channel on YouTube, it's worth your time. Got a lot of interesting baseball commentary videos (I first found it when Timmy did his ridiculous KC bat flip). I guess they got bored over the AS break and did a commentary video on buzkashi, the game from Central Asia where horsemen try to throw a goat carcass in a hole:

  39. Ya no kidding. This lineup would actually be decent-good 1-7 with Anderson. Just imagine it with Robert and Madrigal...

  40. Excepting of course, his W/L record, his ERA and the number of inherited runners he allowed to score in both 2017 and 2018. His strike out to walk ratio was also awful in 2017. Other than that he was "lights out" for those two seasons. Yep, yep (as Ron Kittle would say...) He's showing he can get better (which is a good thing) but is it a real change or a fluke? We'll see in the next year or so. Now you may not personally like or accept the "stats" I commented on, but in fact they are stats so your comment "every stat in the world" isn't true.
    1 point
  41. You would have to be mentally challenged to hate on Bummer last year. He was extremely unlucky and every stat in the world screamed that he is a good reliever.

  42. THIS! We need to start moving out of rebuilding mode and into trying to compete mode, starting next season. After this season, we only” have four more years of control over two of the arguably more important pieces of the rebuild in Moncada and Giolito. Burning another year in 2020 in a year that looks and feels like this season shortens the “window” of competitiveness we’ve been talking so much about since 2016 to a mere three years with Yoan and Lucas still in the mix. Obviously certain injuries have slowed down the progress and timetable around that competitive window, and we’re still awaiting the arrival of the next wave of elite prospects who are currently killing it down in the minors. But similar to how the Cubs surprised in 2015 and were not only competitive that season, but made a nice playoff run, it would be great for the fan base if the Sox could compete in 2020, taking advantage of one of the four years of control remaining over Moncada and Giolito. So all of this talk about trading Abreu, Colome, et al for prospects, prospects, and more prospects, would have made more sense a year ago, two years ago. But we have to get going on the competing front. It’s time to start winning. The 4th longest playoff drought in baseball called and said “Please end this drought in 2020! It’s time!”

  43. The only way you trade Bummer is if you get a high end, major league ready piece back (SP or RF). If the Dodgers are willing to give up Dustin May for Colome & Bummer, you say “thank you” and simply allocate more of our money to the bullpen in the offseason.
    1 point
  44. This is true. Many people would think that trading Colome and Bummer for a guy like Dustin May is a no brainer but then your bullpen is trash as a result. But then again, that rumor is likely trash because it is coming from Peggy Kusinski’s kid.

  45. Again, the Sox went extremely college heavy in the 2016 draft and have little to nothing to show for it 3 years later. Keep telling yourself it was a good draft class all you want.

  46. I was at that event. The team and the franchise was sad. The Bill Veeck ownership was absolutely hopeless. Shortly after that event Veeck put the team up for sale. His ownership was so bad that virtually every White Sox fan was glad to see him sell the team. I was really surprised that Veeck was voted into the MLB HOF.
