  1. Great performance from Cease with no walks and 11 SO. Robert hits 311 FT homer to beat Boston

  2. Cease is probably a better hitter

  3. Damn I thought you were going to tell us that we had forfeited the remainder of the season due to lack of talent

  4. this is the hire that seems out of place. It concerns me that he hasn't played baseball since before Luis Robert was born, it concerns me that the Royals have a garbage farm system under him despite having all losing seasons and it concerns me that he evidently has a very deep, personal relationship with Dayton Moore. He seems like a balding nepo baby that has failed up for the last 30 years, but maybe that's inaccurate.

  5. Yankees and Dbacks are playing Monday. Sox-Dbacks now Tue-Thu Now opens up Monday if Sox have to stay in Boston. Looking kinda decent to get game in today.

  6. Cease was hitting 96-97 today with a good slider. This is the guy who dominated last year.

  7. Off topic, but I gotta grudgingly give Katz some credit for how these dumpster pickups have taken the ball without embarrassing the team.

  8. Sounds like fun. I know I should have better things to do on a Saturday night, but I'm watching the encore to enjoy Cease dominate.

  9. Jerry needs every bit of embarrassment possible. Problem is he is shameless.

  10. Nice victory today, I’m one who doesn’t want to see 100 losses. We’ve had enough embarrassment this year and losing 100 games is embarrassing as it gets.

  13. Isn't he hitting like .075? We'd be better off having our pitcher hit

  14. Everyone keeps forgetting about how losing Hendriks impacted the Sox just like Edwin Diaz with the Mets.

  15. Some of these really annoy me because you’re obviously cheating to say it - for example, how is Moncada worse than last year? Hes not. Elvis Andrus is the exact same mid .600s OPS player he’s been for years and you’re counting him as worse because of an insane HR stretch over 2 months of last year that he was never going to repeat. For Grandal you’re comparing him to 2021 and saying how clearly he’s not motivated, but he was way worse in 2022 - but for Eloy, he was actually worse than this in 2021, slightly better but hurt more in 2022, so you pay attention to Eloy’s 2022 and ignore his 2021. They’re just generally bad, with numbers that bounce between tolerable and terrible! But the real fun part? That you’ve literally said that you can tell how this team needs better motivation since they didn’t get anything out of Hanser Alberto, Gavin Sheets, Clint Frazier, and Adam Haseley. i think there’s a bigger problem than motivation when stuff like that gets written.

  16. That win against Cleveland is firmly etched in my memory bank. Early Wynn started, Bob Shaw relieved, Jerry Staley closed.

  17. September 22, 1959 - The White Sox clinched the American League pennant beating the Indians 4-2 in Cleveland. Al Smith and “Jungle” Jim Rivera hit back-to-back home runs in the game. Smith also threw out former Sox star “Minnie” Minoso trying to score a run. A crowd estimated by the Chicago Sun-Times at 125,000 was at Midway Airport to greet the Sox when they returned home. All this on a night when Chicago fire commissioner Robert Quinn ordered the air raid sirens turned on to celebrate the title, causing fear and panic in a number of non-baseball fans who thought the Russians were attacking. The Sox would wind up winning the 1959 pennant by five games over the Tribe with a mark of 94-60. While they were near the bottom in most offensive categories the pitching was stellar and the defense had three Gold Glove winners in Nellie Fox, Luis Aparicio and Sherm Lollar. The Sox also won 35 games that season by one run with 15 losses. September 22, 1966 - In a game at Yankee Stadium, pitcher Joe Horlen and his teammates stopped New York to the tune of 4-1. Only 413 fans were in attendance at the gigantic stadium. It’s believed to be the smallest home crowd ever at a Yankee game. Yankee broadcaster "Red" Barber told the camera crew to pan the empty stands and was eventually fired over that decision.

  18. I was concerned that the Sox were going to win, but the relievers came through late. Why stop at 100 losses?

  19. Well that and not having a healthy and confident Hendriks at the back end affected every single member of the bullpen...

  20. Which guys with track records underperformed? I will give you Anderson but who else? Robert seriously overperformed. Clevinger was better at baseball and boxing. Moncada was about the same. Burger broke out. Grandal was way better than last year. So many guys - Kopech, Vaughn, Colas, Sosa, Crochet, Bummer, they just never were good. Lynn was worse sure, a 35 year old lost his fastball, that’s not a motivation thing. They were a bad team last year and the only reason they weren’t in third place was that they got lucky in 1 run games. They lost their best hitter and second best pitcher in the offseason. They didn’t upgrade basically anything, they have no support from the minors and maybe less depth than Oakland, and their already old roster got a year older. This was a terrible roster coming into the year that sone people refused to recognize.

  22. I would feel better if this headline said “The Raysation of the White Sox” or “The Astrosation of the White Sox”. Heck, even the “Twinsation” or “Cubsation” would be better than “Royalsation”. Its not 1980 anymore.

  23. I'm still pretty sure that the #1 person who said Joe Kelly is being signed was Tony LaRussa. I'm not sure what else went into that, but basically the press said it happened because of him and he personally bragged about how good the signing was going to be right after it happened.

  24. Alan Williams, or someone in his household, may or may not have been caught with CP, running a gambling ring, fixing games, defrauding the PPP program, or any number of other possible crimes, which led to his home and/or Halas Hall or neither being raided by the FBI, and the Bears and journalists may or may not have known what happened and possibly refuse to say it. That’s pretty much a summary of the rumors.

  25. I was at a Sox game with my Dad back in those days when the announced attendance was something like 512 people. If I'm not mixing up two different games, I think it was the game that Buddy Bradford playing CF, caught a ball over his head right at the Center Field fence, extended his arm over the fence, opened his mitt and the ball fell out over the fence for a home run. I was just a kid, but I remember being so mad I told my Dad that from now on Ken Berry should be starting every game in Center Field. Even so, that team was still more fun to watch than the 2023 White Sox.

  30. At my age, i'm used to seeing names of people that are familiar pass away to somewhere, if indeed anywhere, but this one hurts . I lived in Key West for over 10 years, back in the 70' & 80's . since I worked on a commercial longline boat, we saw Jimmy's sailboat often tied up, not far from us, over at the navy base, where they used to let us dock . we saw him often when he was home, and I was at a party at his house once, and once just sitting having drinks at the Pier House, he walked in with his guitar, went up on stage and played a bit . no one knew he was coming and it was amazing . I loved all of his songs . he brought more to people than can be imagined, was an amazing musician, and person, and will be missed by many, including me.
