  2. 100% hurts fan interest. SoxFest was the one thing that has given my older son some excitement about the team. He keeps asking if we can go this year (and last year) and I have to tell him these losers are afraid to be held accountable for their sucking and it likely isn’t happening. Sucks for them because with that carrot I could have probably created a Sox fan for life. Unfortunately these cowards don’t seem to care about fan engagement.

  3. I'm sure if Hahn got to spend half a billion dollars on 2 players, this franchise wouldn't be the shape that it's in. jerry's insistence on nickel and diming his way to the money being spent worked about as well as everyone here thought it would. I understand his line of thinking, that spreading out the investment over several players would minimize risk. What he doesn't understand is that those individual players he got for less money also have a much higher risk of not performing than the expensive players.

  6. Rangers have an owner willing to spend on premier FA. Rangers hired a baseball person to run the baseball team. Rangers' prospects developed properly and didn't bust after injury or unearned high dollar extensions. Rangers didn't hamstring the FO with asinine short sided restrictions. Rangers reached out to a HOF manager who wasn't drinking away his twilight years while being out of the dugout for a decade.

  7. I would say a team that doesn't like its fans is sort of a problem.

  8. I feel so bad for them. I hate spending money watching a team with no clue. That hasn't stopped them from continuing to do it.

  10. Whenever someone tells you it's not worth making the playoffs next time...just remember an 84 win Diamondbacks team with 2 good starters and 3 good position players ended up making the World Series.

  11. I always enjoyed Soxfest and I never got 1 autograph. I went to the seminars, and while there was a ton of fluff, it's just was you needed after almost 4 months of no baseball.

  12. Harper and Wheeler make this team look a lot different. So would have a Hinch hiring. But do Eloy and Moncada still essentially bust? Kopech and Gio massively regress? It's tough to say if they'd be World Series bound at any point between 2020 and now. We'd have a hell of a lot more hope though.

  15. It's funny that for much of the year the story was the failure of the big budgets in Padres and Mets to lead into winning. But the first WS team is one that jumpstarted a rebuild by getting two stars. Not $450 mill budgets, just using that young talent to take advantage of some big leaders who've proven themselves on big stages. Great concept, imo. Also if you are a playoff team in July, and you don't try to trade for Max Scherzer, even if he's 50, you don't want a world series appearance imo.

  23. A decade of terrible performance and just two pretty good seasons mixed in can't be all written off as "bad luck." That's only 25% of the equation, at most.

  25. I mean, a half billion is Harper/Machado. If fictional Reinsdorf is busting open they add Wheeler as well but who knows.

  26. Never been or even looked into pricing. Though I thought I remember a few guys from this site talking about bringing their kids there years ago. I figured that was a major draw of it. Either way, not having it is still going to hurt the overall fan interest in the team.

  27. “Thought to have had more potential” is a nice way of saying they can’t scout, develop or coach well, so they have to hope for the 99th percentile outcome because they have no backup plan.

  29. And the other 2 were so great at it they were fired. Getz will have to work his first deadline someime. If a change was warranted, and obviously it was, you can't let those dopes do more damage. JR fired them. You almost have to try to be incompetent enough for that to happen.

  31. One thing going through old qb drafts does is ...i don't know it feels like every "good qb draft" is a "bad qb draft" and somehow bad qb drafts end up as good qb drafts. 2020 wasn't considered "bad" but it spits out Burrow, Tua, Herbert and Hurts as the first four qbs. Meanwhile 2021 when it's all said and done may only have Lawrence get to the 2nd contract with the same team, and people loved that draft going in.

  33. October 24, 2000 - Ken Williams was named the new G.M. replacing the retiring Ron Schueler. Williams, a former Sox player, would bring passion and heart to the position. He also wasn’t afraid to take risks, no matter how many times they failed. He eventually would create a World Series champion in 2005, his signature moment in the organization. He then moved upstairs as one of the team’s executive vice-presidents after the 2012 campaign before being fired due to the disaster of 2023 in late August of that same year. October 24, 2005 - The White Sox winning the pennant drew a small cover mention in Sports Illustrated. In the upper left corner was a photo of Paul Konerko swinging his bat with the caption, “At Last! The White Sox Are in the World Series.”

  35. Eder confirms that his AFL tenure is primarily about getting his lower half right to iron out his mechanics. Says he found something in the outing tonight: So the focus seems a bit process over results, which makes sense. The stuff about spin efficiency, ride, and tunneling was all him, by the way. He seems well versed in the metrics behind his stuff and what he wants it to do. Also there's your velo check @baseball_gal_aly "mostly 93-94"

  36. The Dogs stay hot to win 9-4, their 7th in a row. Jacob Burke went 1-4 with a sac fly RBI and a run scored. Bryan Ramos was 1-4 with a BB and a run scored after he reached on an error. Jake Eder had a rough 3 run first thanks to an IF single and a couple SBs (the Glendale catchers get run on with abandon), but settled in to go 4 IP, retiring his last 8 batters in order. 4 IP, 4 ER, 4 K, 0 BB. Fraser Ellard came on in relief for the 5th. Clean 2 K inning, and his second W. Jordan Leasure gave up the second hit of his AFL tenure, but got 3 Ks (all swinging) to seal the win in the 9th. He has 11K in 6 innings, a 0.50 WHIP, and his ticket to big league camp all but assured. Thanks, Dodgers! Eder's strikeouts were also all swinging:

  38. IIRC personal appearances in and out of season are part of player contracts. New United States based players should attend their first available season. other Sox with the highest fan interest should rotate. Make it worthwhile for former players / featured team anniversary celebrations. Most teams accommodate their fans. The Sox need to fight harder to increase fan interest. "Fixing SoxFest" article, when people thought it might return for 2024. https://fromthe108.com/2023/01/31/the-5-fixing-soxfest-for-2024/

  41. Can't cost very much net to put this on, drum up interest in a team which sorely needs fan interest and positive good news. Have smaller informal gatherings throughout Chicago communities with former Sox players at little league events during the season. Half of CPS students are Latino, start broadcasting games on television and events in various communities to draw in fans you alienated or never reached out to in the first place. So many things big and small can be done. All Boyer offers is the same old same old (fireworks, 1983 uniforms, bring your dog and 1/2 way to St. Patricks Day, etc.) decade after decade.

  42. Stupid Bears cost me survivor, that's what I get for putting my faith in Brian Hoyer and the Raiders so I shouldn't blame the Bears. Bagent didn't lose them the game, but this guy is not an NFL QB. 5.6 yards per attempt is woefully bad, and if the Raiders had made this any sort of a game he would have been forced into doing something other than dink and dunk and you would have seen the sacks and turnovers compile. Luckily, the Bears pretty much had control the entire game and he wasn't needed to do those things. They should still be drafting a QB early next year.

  43. I will go to the point of agreeing that people used to like Tim. 2018-2021 he sure seemed like the kind of guy you could cheer for. Now he loves forever as a meme being knocked out by Ramirez.

  44. I dunno man. I was one who got a TA Jersey- he was amazing and seemed like a great example and a leader for this team. What has transpired the past few years has been discouraging. Flipping off Cleveland fans? Please dude...leave that to us. All the distracting baby mama nonsense. The complete 180 on his power... its completely gone. Remember his wife would make him spaghetti when he hit a home run? Now he doesnt hit home runs... I wonder why. I admit that's a ridiculous theory but kind of fun lol he dont like his wife anymore so he doesnt hit home runs so she wont make him spaghetti.
