The Delmonico of a couple of years ago is the exact kind of prospect the Sox will be targeting in a Frazier deal.

Right, which isn't much.

There's also the downside risk keeping Todd as he's injury prone and if he can't pass a physical the Sox will come up empty.

Not gonna lie, I always forget he exists.

So do I. But you would think a beat guy would ask about him. They asked about everyone else. In a couple of weeks, most will be over the Willy Garcia Experience, Leury isn't an every day CF, Tilson might be interesting to look at, but from the lack of news, he must hanging with Brett Lawrie.

Nicky D is knocking on the door, and matt Davidson needs ABs. What we do to move Todd? Keep playing him for trade value?

Yea you have to keep playing him.

With home run derby just 2 months away, maybe he will pick it up so he can claim his spot.

Cutting ties with Frazier wouldn't be the worst thing. There was no market for him over the winter and the injuries/illnesses haven't exactly helped his trade value. Not saying Frazier is done, just that the Sox have other options to give at bats to and with Frazier being a FA at the end of the season, there's really not much worth holding onto.

As for Abreu, can someone explain how he ended up in this thread?

Keep knocking Abreu but his numbers are pretty damn good considering the start he got off to. Funny how people ignore two weeks of a hot streak to focus on the cold start Abreu began the season with. His numbers are solid.

Realistically, no one has offered anything of value for him yet, or he would already be gone. You keep playing him in the hopes that eventually someone needs him, unless he turns into 2011 Adam Dunn. I mean, we are talking about a position for someone like Davidson, Saladino, Sanchez, etc. once it is Moncada time in Chicago. Personally I can't squint hard enough to see any of those guys as a starter on our next playoff team. Delmonico isn't going to be a major league 3B. He is absolutely awful at 3B. There isn't a real pressing need to move Frazier until the deadline if we don't get a decent offer for him.

Eh, if you assume there are multiple clubs interested, then the Sox will be able to make a trade. I mean what's the downside risk? You lose a shot at a C+ prospect in July? The upside is you get the same prospect, maybe you gotta throw in some cash, but you clear a roster spot for Delmonico and Davidson, two guys who will actually be around for the next good Sox team.

Davidson is already on the team. Delmonico well get his chance. We don't need to DFA Todd to make that happen.

Frazier isn't blocking anyone. Davidson can't hit enough to be an every day player and Delmonico cannot play mlb level defense at any position. We need home runs. Hopefully Frazier starts hitting a lot of them.

We need home runs for?

Releasing Todd Frazier would be one of the dumbest things we could possibly do. This isn't a one year process, so if guys like Delmonico & Davidson have to wait an extra couple months before getting playing time so be it. Frazier is only an extended hot streak away from becoming a decent trade chip. There are several teams that will be looking at 3B upgrades come July and Frazier has a chance to be the top option on the market. There is potential upside in waiting this thing out.

Fair enough all around but according to the report from our own Soxtalk scouting crew Delmonico does have a chance to stick at 3B.

He has 8 errors in 70 chances. He isn't even making it to 9 out of 10 plays without making an error. That is just awful. His career Fielding% at 3B in the minors is .922.

Literally the same guys you mention for Frazier, Jose is playing a spot they can play. If they trade Todd and dfa Asche, you can slide Jose into the DH spot and play Delmonico and Davidson at either corner.

Delmonico has been an error machine playing 3B at Charlotte.

The Sox have been looking for that since.....Joe Crede?

Holland, Gonzalez, Frazier, Swarzak and Cabrera won't bring much back in return individually but could bring back something interesting if paired up. Take the Mets and Red Sox for example, both could use a 3B, SP and teams are always looking for a reliever. So send them Frazier, Holland and Swarzak, or just two of them.

Seattle is another team that could use a 1B/DH type, SP and RP.

I think Seattle might be a good spot to send Holland or Shields come July. Their SP has been devastated with injuries.
