Whisox05
Sox are already looking at a glut of infielders, do they start looking at trading some to fill other needs? Sosa is definitely getting to be odd man out. Vargas potentially too. Getz has already said to be looking at trades. You have Sosa, Montgomery, meidroth, Baldwin, Vargas, Acuna, and Murakami at major league level. Antonacci, Carlson, bonemer, and Roch hopefully drafted. DH is going to be rotated with benintendi and catchers until they decide to probably move quero. Edited January 24 by Whisox05

The infield to start the season is going to be Murakami at 1B, Meidroth at 2B, Colson at SS, & Vargas at 3B. With Baldwin & Acuna both capable infielders, I don’t think we carry more than one of Sosa or Mead. If Chase or Miguel falters, then the backup infielder or even Baldwin could push for one of their roles. At some point and potentially fairly early into the season, I fully expect Antonacci to put the heat on both of those guys. Outside of trading one of Sosa or Mead before the season, I’d go in with what we have and see who establishes themselves.

Unpopular opinion, and I know his defense something to be desired, but I prefer Sosa over Meidroth if it comes down to one has to go. Meidroth just screams Nick Madrigal to me. 3

Hopefully, Carlson can develop into a good 2B/CF since I assume Colson will be at 3B and Roch will be our SS. Maybe you cover 2B and CF with Acuna and Carlson. If you’re projecting ahead like that, then what about Bonemer? Could be Caleb at 3B, Roch at SS, and then Colson in the outfield or at 1B. Then again, maybe Bonemer moves to LF.

He already has had some back problems early on, and Roch and Bonemer can easily fill in on the left side of the infield if everything goes according to plan.

It's hard to see Colson staying at SS if they have prospects coming who are better defensively, but I could see him at 3B since they seemed interested in trying that a bit last season. Sosa is an intriguing bat who doesn't get on base, but if the White Sox value defense, it's hard to see him at a set position everyday unless his bat becomes difference making. When will Benemer be here? In 2026? Probably not to start the season at least. Chase is going to be the opening day 2B, but he has to get on base at a high clip. Then there's Vargas - he improved last season, but that doesn't mean he'll get regular at bats when a few of these guys start coming without further improvement. It's great they have options and a few of them are probably not ready (or even here yet with the #1 pick) for the majors. At this time last season, none of these guys were either in the majors or coming with all kinds of skepticism. Some of these guys will improve, some will get worse/stagnate or have injuries. More young talent will probably arrive in the middle infield over the the next season, but I think the outlook is generally positive with the amount of young talent/options that will be available of the next few years here at SS/2B.

Yeah, Meidroth is much better than Madrigal. He'll never have big power numbers, but he's shown so far to be a good hitter with good defense. Sosa will have bigger power numbers, but his defense is bad at best.

I’ll keep saying it, but Meidroth is not the same as Madrigal. The former is one of the most selective hitters and the other is one of the most aggressive. Both have great bat to ball skills and not much power, but Meidroth is going to get on base at a significantly higher rate than Nick and has much better baseball IQ. Obviously it’s very much possible that the lack of power pushes Chase to a reserve infielder role, but he does offer a different and better skill set than Madrigal.

His blurb on Bonemer says he doesn't really have the arm to play on the left side of the IF, so he either winds up at 2nd base or left field. His bat will be his carrying tool. The only infielder who could possibly force the issue in the bigs this season is Antonacci. I would think somebody would have to stumble for Antonacci to get serious reps.
