The Astros are run by a bunch of assbags. I've never wanted a team to lose more in my entire life.3 points

He was the 4th reliever on a last place team in April. And he gave up a losing homer on Opening Day. MLB bullpens man.2 points

You were the same guy saying last winter the Sox shouldn’t spend money on signing a Free agent to DH because Daniel Palka could provide “cheap production.” How’d that work out? $45M to fill those two positions in 2020 and 2021 isn’t a problem if those two produce like they did in 2019.2 points

I’ve said it before with regards to Yermin, but Sox likely feel they had a better shot of keeping him in the org this way. He’s unlikely to be taken in the rule 5 draft as a DH, cause he can’t catch. If Sox added him to 40 man and then DFAd or out righted him if they needed the spot, he’d be gone to another team that wouldn’t have to keep him on the 25 man all season. Yermin probably isn’t a major league player, so I’m not going to get too worked up on it, but I would venture a guess the Sox felt it would be easier to retain him as depth this way.2 points

A little odd to think that Wheeler is going to develop into Cole when he’s already older...2 points

https://www.mlb.com/news/zack-wheeler-has-potential-comp-in-gerrit-cole With Cole’s beginning asking price at $250 million (according to Jeff Passan) and Strasburg’s value rocketing into the stratosphere...not to mention the increasing risks 8-9 years out from the previous TJ surgery increasing by the day...Wheeler should be White Sox choice 1, 1A, 1B, 1C. He’s really the only guy left with true TOR stuff...the article above lists his many parallels with Gerrit Cole.1 point

So everybody from that 2014 Tigers rotation went on to win rings. Verlander (Won with Astros) Price (Won with Red Sox) Porcello (Won with Red Sox) Scherzer (Won with Nats) Sanchez (Won with Nats)1 point

Yep, who knew the 97 Sox had two champion managers, and Ventura. Bevington, such a mentor.1 point

No, not like that at all. You're totally not understanding the point of that post.1 point

Another franchise with their first title. Congrats to former Sox Adam Eaton, Daniel Hudson and the eminently forgettble Javy Guerra.1 point

The only thing I really don't think I'd do is pull Greinke when they did. I wouldn't have had Cole sitting down there "Warm" waiting for Greinke to walk someone, so I get that part.1 point

It shows the value of a 1st baseman who can make picks. Abreu needs to stop playing 1st base ASAP. He's a complete and utter joke out there.1 point

Why is it a given that only AL teams will pursue JDM? Isn’t he still a ~3 WAR player as a LF or RF despite his terrible defense if he posts a 140 wRC+?1 point

Teams were not in the market to pay for starting pitching. Teams like the Sox, Twins, Brewers, Cubs, etc will probably not wait for Cole and Stras to sign. They will be hot after Wheeler and Bum, and no one wants to end up empty handed. No one also wants to play the Ryu and Jake O game too quickly.1 point

Oh it’s definitely better. Sox need good hitters. JD Martinez is that. Makes finding a legit LH RF paramount, though.1 point

You've probably stated it somewhere in here over the past month, but I am curious, what exactly would your offseason plan be? Seems you always say if we invest in SP, the lineup will suck. If we invest in the lineup, the pitching will suck. Maybe you just think the Sox will suck regardless, but what would you do this offseason if you were in charge to put the Sox in the best position to contend in 2020, but also for multiple years thereafter.1 point

I think too much quality starting pitching is a good problem to have. No team ever has the same starting 5 all season long.1 point

If I were Odorizzi and the Twins offered me a QO I'd take it and bet on myself. If he doesn't take the QO he's out of a job until June.1 point

That's literally what you have to do. The majority of contracts signed every year for mid-level players turn out to look pretty bad within 1 year. An average contract given out to a FA is a "mediocre at best" contract.1 point

20 million per is the starting point now for good but not great pitchers. Add in desperation and bidding wars and the price gets ridiculous.1 point

As is Strasburg. He's having one of the best postseasons of all-time. Couldn't be more excited for Game 7.1 point

He and all of the players, coaches, and staff have been saying they expect big things next season and playoffs. The only folks doubting things are is fans. I will still believe it when I see it.1 point
