You know what all those people have in common? None of them are currently managing a major league team. The manager of a Major League Baseball team better damn well know the rules and how to best apply his personnel based on them.

We are 16-13 and I feel like this seasons lost. I know it isn't, but it feels that way with the clubhouse drama and LaRussa. This is the most confused I have ever felt as a fan, because its not the play on the field I am so irate about. Hamilton and Leury are in positions that they shouldn't be in. I find them frustrating but I understand their limitations, and I don't fault them for being so bad. I guess my issue comes with the overwhelming feeling that this organization is a mess. From the reports that our minor leaguers don't get the coaching and preparation needed, the front office talking shit about the fans on a consistent basis, the rumors about Jerry saying second place is where he wants to be, the indefensible hire of a 76 year old with legal and drinking issues who is out of touch with the game, the lack of spending, the lack of trust in analytics, and the weekly embarrassing moments that happen on and off the field. Its all so tiresome. The injuries that have been plaguing this team havent helped either of course. This year was supposed to be a real treat, and in a lot of ways it has. Mercedes, Kopech, Rodon, Cease, the list goes on. There is a lot to be happy about even with all the injuries, but the bad is just overwhelming and distracting. A new front office and ownership would really be a breath of fresh air. This TLR debacle is incredibly frustrating because we are stuck with it.

Having had time to sit with what took place today....it’s somehow worse. You have the leader in the clubhouse playing without a full deck. You had the manager of the Reds come out and say today “Yeah, the league made it really clear what the new rule was going to be during Spring Training.” So the Sox are already taking the field at a disadvantage, as the guy calling the shots isn’t working off the same information the other dugout has. This is levels of incompetence I honestly couldn’t comprehend in the off-season. The cherry on top was LaRussa seemingly being OK “learning on the job” from the media, specifically from a 32-33 year old James Fegan. It’s an absolute embarrassment that this entire organization should be ashamed of.

Of course they’re intimidated. They know Hahn got stepped on by Jerry, so they have know power with regards to Tony.

That's sort of the point of all this. They really shouldn't matter too much. When Spring Training began, LaRussa could have had one of the easiest jobs in baseball. The lineup was set, the rotation was set, the bullpen was basically set. Now, things have gotten a lot more complicated because of injuries, there is no doubting that. People are always going to criticize a manager when he makes the wrong bullpen decision, or pitching to a guy instead of working around him, etc. That's part of the game, always will be. People will be on both sides of the argument. What's not acceptable is what we saw today, and what we've already seen from LaRussa is a very short time. This is now the third tine where LaRussa has had to "apologize" to the fan base/media for a bad call. The Foster debacle and Giolito being out of gas were bad, but those were "gut" calls he got wrong. Today is a WHOLE new level. He didn't know a rule. The other manager did. Knowing the rules of the game you are managing seems like pretty basic stuff. And if it's "too confusing" for someone to keep with up with all the changes, maybe being an ML manager isn't for you. So I don't want to hear about people just picking on LaRussa because of his age, or his DUI's or whatever else. He's shown us, multiple times, that he is overmatched in 2021.

Tony is the manager. He should know the rules. We would expect Renteria to know the rules. Fans expect Matt Nagy to know the rules. Whether that cost the Sox the game, we will never know but why is no one questioning Tony's covering for Hendiks, saying he is a closer and since he wasn't closing it was not a good spot for him. Then why the fuck is he pitching? Nothing the guy says makes ay sense like his Yermin being scratched story. Maybe he has had too much to drink over the years and is getting pickled.

For his career, Billy Hamilton has only hit into a double play in 4.4% of his opportunities to do so (league average is just under 11%). With a runner on third and less than 2 outs, Hamilton has scored the runner on 47.6% of opportunities (league average is 50.4%). To keep the same chance of scoring a single run, Garcia would need to have basically a 99% chance of successfully stealing 2nd base. And even from a total expected runs in the inning standpoint Garcia would need to have like an 80-85% chance to steal that base. Just inexplicable decision making.

Let's also not discount the fact that even if Tony's understanding of the rule was correct, that double switch was also idiotic.

White Sox fans were calling for Tony's firing from 1980 through when he was fired, except for the second half of 1983. This isn't ageism. It's not liking how a guy runs a team. When you are stacked, it doesn't matter. Tony has had the great fortune of managing teams with great players. Once those great players left or got hurt, his teams were bad.

LOL. Post-game mentioned how the only other modern era pitcher to have 10+ Ks, allow no more than 1 hit, and get 3 hits did with the bat today was Catfish Hunter. Ozzie then says thank god Hawk isnt still calling the game, or else we would have had to hear Hawk talk about Catfish Hunter the entire rest of the game. Then Ozzie did a Hawk impression. tbh I still don't. All of them starting off hot is certainly better than the alternative, but its May 5th. In 2016 Mat Latos was 4-0 with an ERA below 2 at this point. I hope they all keep it rolling and Katz turns out to be the best pitching coach ever (for SPs anyway) but it is WAY too early to be talking about trades or who is being replaced by Kopech, etc.

So far Vaughn is average by statcast outs above average which is great. He has made every 1 and 2 star play Opportunity that he got. I will Say he got a little Lucky though as he hasn't gotten a single 3 or 4 star opportunity and only, 2 5 star ones which he didn't catch. I'm not expecting him to make 5 star plays (even the top fielders make only like 30% of them) but the real test Will be when he gets the 3 and 4 star opportunities. He did get Lucky that balls were hit out of his range or at him basically. Still it is a good thing that he does make the routine outs it could have been a lot worse and I think at least for this year he is OK. Obviously long term he is too slow for the Of but he seems to have good instincts and not getting nervous out there

Gio just needs to get it together. Honestly...could Sox dangle Keuchel for a similar over priced outfielder to a team in need of pitching at the deadline? I know that isn't ideal, but Kopech will be in the rotation late summer and never losing his spot. And I would rather the Sox spend 30-40 mil for 2 more years of Lynn over Keuchel. Alex isn’t a true CF’er. I was hoping for Kenny Lofton. He was a clutch midseason acquisition in deep runs for the Cubs and Indians, and looked pretty good in the Celebrity All-Star game a couple years ago.

The White Sox do not need a DH, a LF or a bat. They need somebody that can field the CF position that is all.
