With 1994, fans were angry at the players, angry at the owners, or angry at both. In the end, it really didn't matter. There was an intense backlash, and it was double-edged sword. Baseball suffered greatly for it. Very few gained from the stoppage although the owners were slapped down for not bargaining in good faith. The Sox truly suffered in the aftermath of 1994 and will suffer again. A team can't develop young talent if that young talent is sitting on the sidelines during a strike. Sox fans will be plenty angry if the rebuild yields little winning. One more time of a team being on the verge of something only to have it stopped by something like this will set the franchise back years. I don't have a great deal of sympathy for the owners. Their business is a legally protected monopoly and many of their stadiums have been built with taxpayer money. Losing teams can still make money, and small market teams rarely go the Series. Any attempt to break the players' union will be short-sighted and futile. Baseball has some big problems. This won't help.

Seager is the clear #1 FA out of these 3 imo.. But I believe he'd be the most expensive, no? I think Conforto is the most realistic get, and I'd be ecstatic. If we did actually sign one of them, I believe whoever it is, slots in at #5 in the lineup imo. Cannot move Robert out of 2, they won't move Abreu out of 3 and Eloy should regain #4 (he's going to be the best hitter on the team).

People pick sides because for some it goes beyond how much the players are getting paid, it's about labor vs. capital. One side has too much power right now.

Instead they are footing the bill for substantially higher tickets, parking, concession and RCN prices, whereas player salaries remain stagnant, below inflation, nearly every penny of it going to the Owners. 2011 White Sox Payroll: $127.7M vs, 2021 $128.7M, a 0.7% increase. 2011 Cubs Payroll: $134.0M vs. 2021 $147.8M, a 10.2% increase. Perhaps you don't get a chance to go to many games in Chicago, but tell me have tickets, parking, beers, food, cable bills increased 0.7% the past decade in Texas? Most major league players earn at or near the minimum salary. Without factoring in survivor bias (only a small number of total professional ballplayers reach the Majors), most last a few years, most don't reach FA and many who do are colluded against by the owners the past few decades. Not to mention having to pay the highest tax brackets for their short careers. Whereas the owners are getting billions from taxpayers in terms of subsidies, have substantial expense write-offs which minimize any taxes, defer capital gain taxes for decades, own teams in perpetuity without any free market interference courtesy of their Congressionally awarded monopoly. The same owners who paid millions to bribe Congress to avoid paying minor league players a minimum wage.

Plus, no Verlander and Greinke 2-3 years since he was still really effective...

Hahn gets an F on RF. Soler, Duvall, Rosario andPerderson, all acquired by Atlanta mid season can play RF are better than all on the list above. They were all obtained on the cheap.

Right on, if our FO would have gone for Soler or even Duvall, instead of Kimbrel, we probably move on to the WS. Braves won scoring a lot runs and many homers, many from the newly acquired Soler, Duvall and Rosario. Astros pitching turned out to be mediocre after all. Kimbrel pitched one inning in the postseason. Think we should go for the three headed monster of Eloy, Robert, and Soler in 2022.

The last thing we needed was a butcher in RF. Soler wasn’t the answer to our RF problem at the deadline.

It's all their faults. No one is advocating for the fans and the fans won't advocate for themselves. Instead they cheer one side or the other when both sides are just trying to take more money from them. In the end the players will win a little, the owners will break even, and the fans will lose again.

Yes, in a heartbeat. The question is if the Sox would consider dealing Vaughn.

I don't want Cesar as much as the next guy, but there really aren't many better fits on the FA market once you get past the elite guys the Sox won't be signing. I like Conforto plus trade route for 2B personally. But point is, Conforto is the guy you need that solves lots of problems. With him in hand, 2B becomes less critical offensively. Just get a reliable defender that isn't a black hole in the 9 spot.

I also think Lynn was a terrible matchup against the Astros, and was also fairly banged up by the end of the year. If Lynn alone pitched like he did in the 1st half, Sox probably win the series.

This statement drives a counter-question though. Why is it that the team which had the least pressure on their pitchers and the most time to put guys on the IL for health reasons was also the team where the pitching cracked down the stretch? The Astros and Braves have pitching injuries but they were able to push theirs a full month longer than us. The Dodgers had a staff that finally broke in the NLCS, but they also won 104 games while trying to catch San Francisco so they didn’t get the extra month off the White Sox took. Why did the most rested team specifically come apart at the starting staff when that was the thing that the strategy was supposed to prevent? This is actually a question that needs to be answered because it impacts how the roster should be built next year. Was it a one year fluke or does this team have an issue with pitchers who are more likely than other teams to break down late in the year or was the way the White Sox used their starters in the playoffs drastically different from other teams or was the strategy of giving guys shorter outings and IL stints a flawed strategy because guys wound up rusty?

Kyle Seager to 2B is the exact wrong brother, but it would be a typical 2000's to 2016 White Sox mid-season declining "big name" veteran desperation move...not unlike the supposed "big game" pitcher in Shields, 3-5 years after he had already passed his prime with the Royals. Haniger's still the name with the Mariners, but why spend whatever trade surplus you have when you can simply BUY Conforto...? Doesn't make much sense, unless they're REALLY being budget conscious.

I wouldn't prioritize one position over the other. I prioritize getting a LH or SH bat that has a high OBP, above average power, and can play his position well.

I choose C- Starting Pitching.

For me, I think the answer is hands-down RF. First & foremost, 2B is generally easier to fill in free agency than corner OF spots. Second, I think Jose Rodriguez has a much better chance of securing the long-term 2B spot in the next couple of years than any of our internal options for RF. Furthermore, when I look at free agency, it just feels like Conforto is a perfect fit for what this team needs. I have always loved Semien and would be ecstatic if we got him, but I’ll take the lefty bat with against an incredible track record against RHP all day everyday.

The vast majority of players, perhaps a few hundred at most professional ball players are actually “millionaires”, playing in a finite window of opportunity. Divide and conquer, the lone ballgame you’ll never, ever see the parasitic billionaires tank.
