  1. Sounds like he choked you out as well.

  2. Aside from everything else, pretty sure he's suspended for a while.

  3. .Unless they are getting a package where they can't say no, trading Gio would be a mistake. He's pitching for a big payday. He was great before he got Covid. I just had Covid a little over a month ago. Very mild, but ev3en now I get run down pretty easily. This guys upside is too high to sell low.

  4. The Sox should follow-up a Clevinger signing with a Conforto signing. Swing for the fucking the fences with your additions and hope for the best.

  8. Couple interesting things to note about Clevinger. His K rate was horrible this year, but what’s interesting is his four seamer was basically the same as it was in 2018 in terms of velocity, spin rate, & movement. His declining K rate has more to do with his slider and curveball than anything else. The curve was simply not effective this year and he cut its usage substantially. The slider was still effective at generating whiffs, but not as strong as 2018 and he made more mistakes with the pitch given the sizable increase in ISO against. However, his spin rates for both breaking balls was as good or better than 2018. Not sure if he was dealing with rust coming off TJS or if the knee injury he dealt with hurt his mechanics / command, but it seems like the pure stuff might still be at 2018 levels when he put up a 3.52 FIP and 4.2 fWAR over 200 innings. He’s obviously not going to average 6.25 innings per start and I think we can rule out 32 starts right out of the gate. However, I think we can probably get ~135 innings out of him next year and that could be worth 2.5 to 3.0 wins. Obviously there are no guarantees and he could easily bust, but I think there is reason for optimism here and it doesn’t require him returning to his Cy Young caliber form from 2019.

  9. Yep, sounds like they're building a MadHouse section like at the UC. That would be cool, but I think they severely underutilize the space around the immediate park.

  10. He had Jesse Rogers on. Rogers basically said, "if white sox fans want to order their Clevinger jerseys go ahead and do so. Its basically down to crossing the i's and dotting the t's"

  11. Giolito put up 11.3 fWAR from 2019 to 2021 over 72 starts. This ranked 7th in all of baseball. And now some people are eager to dump him after a season in which he put 1.8 fWAR and a 3.65 xFIP. You won’t find a better value for $10M next year than Lucas Giolito. He won’t be an ace, but take #2 or #3 type starter production on the cheap for a year and then place a QO on him. That’s probably the best path forward with him.

  15. Did LA void his contract for that matter? Dude is so disgustingly toxic that I’d be surprised if he ever plays in the bigs again.

  16. Sox don’t tend to let things drag out in the media (at least not when it is related to moves). Manager health…drag it out…but baseball moves I feel usually get resolved quick once it hits the news line so I am a little concerned someone jumps in on this. I like odds of Clevinget being better than Cueto next year.

  18. Definitely little league fences but I’d be hard pressed to not be happy about Clevinger + Conforto at this point. Much better than last offseason.

  19. $10M isn’t really “big rotation $” anymore.

  20. While I don’t agree with the thought process, signing Clevinger and trading Gio still leaves us without a 5th SP and best case scenario is a wash salary wise, likely a slight increase in payroll.

  21. Gio is going to be more like $10M. Highly likely Q will cost more AAV and certainly years. 1/$10M is not a huge bargain for 2022 version of Gio, but it certainly is for 19-21 version. If Gio were a FA this offseason, even coming off a poor season, he’d be getting paid. I don’t think a 5/$90M type deal would be out of range. Unless another team absolutely has to have Gio for 2023 and is willing to pay handsomely, I just don’t understand how the Sox get better trading him, and there is almost no scenario short of acquiring a younger SP in exchange that helps solve the Sox budgetary issues. Just keep Gio, enjoy him having a very nice season in his walk year, and let someone else give him the Wheeler deal next winter.

  22. This was my thought coming into the off-season, but Rosenthal & Fegan are as credible as it gets. I don't think this rumor would be out there if there's not smoke to it.

  26. JFC, Sox better be getting an awesome return on Gio if they actually move him. It is such an assbackward strategy.

  27. Ehhh. He’s not going to be nearly as cheap and is 37 next season. Johnny was a joy to watch but expecting that performance again would be crazy. I have no issues with Sox looking in a different direction.

  28. I agree but I wouldn’t be mad if they signed Clevinger, especially on a one year prove it deal. Plus, I’m of the mind that the Sox need to sign TWO starters. That second starter could be a lefty, a 4/5/6 starter type. Guys like Quintana, Yarbrough, Smyly, Boyd.

  32. I don't want to derail the thread, but wasn't he found no guilty or whatever? I think the MLB just has beef with him over him consistently shitting on the league over the years.

  34. Well the downside is that he’s been a -2 win player so far in his career so I get the concept but it’s way more of a “rebuilding team” move. If he is that bad again that could cost the White Sox a chance at the wild card if a lot of other things went right. That’s the kind of move they should have been making in like 2018-2019. If they were going to sell off a couple other pieces to save money, then why not?

  36. This. It’s just not that complicated. Some people around here need to watch more teams besides the Sox if you think Gio is a problem or overpaid at $10M.

  37. Andrus was the only hitter on the team last year who swung like he knew pull power was the only way to do damage. I'll admire that about him, at least.

  38. On the bright side, the Astros lost more than the Sox will last offseason in Correa, McCullers being out most of the season. Of course they gained Verlander but a year ago there is no way anyone would have thought a 39 year old coming off Tommy John would give them what he gave them. Obviously signing Clevinger is a turn back the clock hope to 2019. There still is no monster team in the ALC. Cleveland has better pitching, and defense. But the Sox are still right there. They were right there in the beginning of September this year. Then they lost the first game of the Cleveland series and waived the white flag. Players playing with some accountability is going to help. Losing Abreu will be interesting, but it had to happen. I think it will ultimately depend on how many games their best players can play. Cleveland had 5 guys play 146 games. The Sox had 1.

  39. Count me in the group that would prefer Cueto to Clevinger. Guy was always one of those Cleveland guys who was command over stuff. You lose a little off that, you lose a lot. Also, he seems like a complete tool. If I am going to root for a .500 team, I would like to actually like the team.

  40. Teams like the Phillies & Jays are able to give a $100M+ contract every winter when they are going for it. Meanwhile, Jerry is tapped out and on the brink of bankruptcy after signing a couple high paid relievers.
