No team can ever establish a culture in their players when the culture of the management is that of blame-shifting and complacency. That is what the players have done, and we hate the players. That's what this manager is, and we hate the manager. It's what the management has been for...ever4 points

But then they wouldn't have had the money to extend Moncada, silly.2 points

Grifol sees a rookie trying too hard and making mistakes: "I'm going to publicly rip him to establish accountability." Grifol sees a vet slacking and making mistakes: "Carry on you've earned leeway." Culture.2 points

I haven’t read the article, but if you really want to establish a culture, you don’t stick with a loser, brown-nosing manager like Grifol. It’s amazing to me that Hahn said he wanted to hire a guy with experience in a competitive org and then goes out and hires some rookie chump from the Royals. You reap what you sow I guess.2 points

I don’t see what the big deal was. He even stuck his tongue out and did the neener neener thing with his hands. He was clearly being playful with an antagonistic crowd. Everyone has their phones out looking for the next gotcha.2 points

Not a fan of the city of Philadelphia or its fans, and Bryce Harper always seemed like a douchebag to me. Yet I’m somehow rooting for them and I don’t know why.2 points

October 12, 1966 - Another one of then Sox G.M. Ed Short’s best moves. He sent two-time former All-Star pitcher Juan Pizarro, nursing a bad arm, to the Pirates for minor league pitcher Wilbur Wood. Wood would blossom in Chicago thanks to his knuckleball, first as a record setting relief pitcher then as a four-time 20 game winner. Wood would also make three All-Star teams. He pitched for the Sox through the 1978 season. He won 20 or more games four consecutive seasons from 1971 through 1974 totaling 90 wins in that span. He started 181 games and in those four years pitched at least 320 innings. October 12, 2005 - In one of the strangest endings to a post season game in history, the Sox beat the Angels 2-1, in game #2 of the A.L.C.S. With the game tied in the ninth inning catcher A.J. Pierzynski ran to first on a third strike that bounced in the dirt. Angels catcher Josh Paul, the former Sox player, thought he struck out normally and never threw down to first base as required by the rules. Home plate umpire Doug Eddings agreed with Pierzynski and let him remain at first base. After pinch runner Pablo Ozuna stole second, Joe Crede’s two strike double brought home the game winner and tied the series at a game apiece. October 12, 2021 – The Sox were beaten 10-1 by the Astros in game #4 of the A.L.D.S. eliminating them from the playoffs and ending their season. But the Sox, despite numerous injuries that caused key players to miss significant stretches of time, still won 93 games and the Central Division title. They had consecutive winning seasons for the first time since 2003-2006 and for the first time in the 120-year history of the franchise made the playoffs in back-to-back seasons. They also beat their crosstown rivals the Cubs, five out of six meetings.1 point

Liam goes far beyond any potential wins or losses. Even if Jerry Reinsdorf prioritized on field success, which there is no evidence he had over his 43 years as owner, I could see them wanting him involved in 2024 and beyond. Liam’s recovery from cancer was pretty much the lone feel good story in 2023. The team heavily marketed his recovery and return from cancer, and subsequent cancer events and fan meetups were promoted on social media. Perhaps there is mutual interest with Liam continuing with the White Sox in a FO or coaching role after retirement. While Liam will not personally be responsible for $15M in ticket sales next year, I do suspect they will hold a game or two with Liam involved that will feature perhaps a cancer fundraiser (raffle, perhaps extra promotional item with special tickets they do several times a season). I also think they give him a two year deal (2024-2025) with a third year option / buyout, primarily because Jerry takes care of the limited number of people on Earth he likes, and Liam seems to like it here (Chicago + White Sox) despite the organizational dysfunction and losing. You need to have at least a few marketable players for fan interest. You can’t expect the Sox completely and intentionally alienate fans like Oakland has by intentionally sabotaging ticket sales, with their announcer spew the N word during multiple broadcasts, though the latter was probably not orchestrated by owner John Fischer.1 point

Colson finished 3-5 with 2 HR, 4 RBI, and 3 runs scored. His 3rd HR in 24 hours has him tied for the AFL lead after a slow start. Him and Ramos started a rally in the 9th with a single and a walk, and both eventually scored to help tie the game...But Burke was called out (on a pitch that looked pretty outside on the broadcast...) to strand the bases loaded. A couple more slightly questionable calls against them, and Glendale loses in 10. Cousin was fine, but does seem to get a lot of 2 strike counts that he can't put away quickly. Still, he could have finished with 0 ER if someone like Burke or Luis was in center...the ITP was pretty fieldable.1 point

I think the lowest would easily be Arizona-Texas. Houston would draw plenty of fans rooting against them.1 point

Cousin done after 3IP, 4H, 2ER,1BB, 1K. Lots of weak contact, one hit was a bouncer to second that the 2B just gave up on for some reason. Both runs scored on an inside the park HR to center. It was well hit, but the CF definitely could have played it better...Burke would have. I know we're not used to this, but the Sox players are quite comfortably the best defenders on the team. And in other news, Colson just hit ANOTHER home run.1 point

If they would have just been able to hold on to Semien and Tatis, a lot of problems wouldnt be problems. Sometimes the best moves are the ones that aren't made.1 point

October 13, 1970 - New player personnel director Roland Hemond made his first deal in that capacity for the club. Hemond sent John “Pineapple” Matias and Gail Hopkins to the Royals for Don O’Riley and Pat Kelly. Kelly, who was the brother of Browns running back Leroy Kelly, provided speed for the “New Look” White Sox. A solid hitter and leadoff man, Pat would make the All-Star Team in 1973 when he hit .280 with 22 steals. He played for the Sox from 1971 through 1976 and stole 119 bases.1 point

It's pretty clear Kenny and Rick wanted a manager they could control and who wouldn't rock the boat.1 point

So what you're saying is that they are due? Terrific. I will remember October 13, 2023 as the day that FloydBannister1983 basically guaranteed the White Sox would be signing Ohtani in the offseason. I am sooo excited. Thanks!!!1 point

I have a hard time believing this. I see next years offense being about as bad as it can be, and poor offenses are rarely fun to watch.1 point

Now that you mention it, he probably did use them. Certainly looked like it, and steroids were more prevalent then. Still, he hustled his ass off, got the most out of his ability, etc.1 point

This is exactly right. 8 years in a row the Royals haven't been above .500. And that's with this guy in his prime years. Merrifeild in his prime years and Benintendi as well. If this stuff is true, MLB needs to step in.1 point

Salvy is not a good addition. Pedro wants him for leadership huh? His leadership couldn't help KC escape patheticness the last 2 seasons. Please get rid of Pedro. Geez. How dumb do they think their ticket buyers are. You don't fork over money to see Pedro-ball. Say no to Whit as well. If Sox do get Salvy, they are getting an old guy who is not fast anymore and doubtful he'll hit 30 homers even in the Cell. I'd rather have Mike Massey than Whit.1 point

Sure would've been nice if the Sox were in on Schwarber or Castellanos. Meanwhile they just keep on winning.1 point

Can they use steroids with impunity again? Because I feel like Kapler possibly just maybe dabbled in them on occasion.1 point

Baseball teams can cater to any group many consider worthy or repulsive and should reap the rewards or suffer the consequences for their actions. I encourage people offended by ads promoting Jesus Christ to boycott the Sox if they are so offended. I also encourage any of the four million Catholics in the Los Angeles area to boycott the Dodgers for their support of these provocateurs targeting their faith, performing pole dances and simulating sec acts with Jesus dying on the cross if they are offended. They interviewed these clowns back in June, and recall at least a few stating they were in the Church of Satan, though I couldn’t find that particular video clip today. https://www.thesisters.org/copy-of-grand-mother-vish-knew Religious beliefs: Church of Satan. There were many groups honored that night, and a Pride Day held for several years or more. I don’t recall organized protests (or at least widely organized protests) reported except against this particular group, for their acts of religious bigotry and hate that would not be celebrated as “pride” if directed toward any other religious group, race or faith. That is the difference between all the other groups honored that day, and this particular group. I’m fine, and I believe a majority of people including Christians were fine or at least tolerant of the MLB June pride nights, including the ones hosted by the White Sox, or even the Dodgers with the exception of honoring this particular group. There were no protests of the Sox version, nor any other team that I recall in June beyond this widely publicized one.1 point

I feel like the panic will be for the finding some of these mercenary pitchers who are playoff legends. If you aren’t trying to get a scherzer when they are available at the deadline, you don’t want a World Series, period. You don’t want berrioses. Not many of em though.1 point

Where’s that picture from? A bunch of freaks who purposely try to be controversial. https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/dodgers-pride-night-timeline-club-re-invites-sisters-of-perpetual-indulgence-to-lgbtq-celebration/amp/1 point

Our cable is actually not even our ISP, because the internet they can provide is insanely slow for being in the city. So we have two separate providers for cable and internet. It’s ridiculous.1 point

If they could have landed Harper and Wheeler I think it changes the fortunes of this franchise massively. Harper especially.1 point

Bryce Harper at $25M a year looks pretty damn good right now compared to *maybe* paying Sal Perez $21M a year. Makes no sense they didn’t pursue him harder that one off-season. Was a better fit than Machado. Sigh.1 point
