  4. Right, because this franchise is so stable right now with Jerry having the worst product in the history of MLB on the field, plus no TV or stadium deal off of it along with the lowest attendance in over 35 years. Jerry has destroyed this franchise all by himself.

  7. the ONLY thing that could go worse is if they leave the Chicago metro area. Everything else is already at levels about as low as it can go.

  8. I personally believe that Jerry has two things on his mind. #1, minimize the tax hit for transfering the Sox and Bulls eventually. #2, personally pick his successor. As to #1 Keep in mind, and take this grain of salt, because so many of these reports have been completely wrong, but if he really wants to sell the Sox after his death, the ONLY way to minimize the tax hit to for them to be sold UPON his death. If they transfer to anyone else, the price resets, and a tax implication on gains starts to build. If it happens upon his death, then the estate only faces inheritance taxes on the gains, because then the price resets to the price upon inheritance, meaning no gains. So in other words on death he pays taxes based on a $19 million purchase price to say the $2 billion price of today. If immediately sold to someone else, they are still worth $2, and there are new gains. If Michael (or anyone else) takes ownership they start a new tax line at $2, and if they later sell, they again pay taxes on the new gains from $2 and up. Having a new purchaser in the queue upon his death is the single most important thing here if the historic reports on disposing of the team and saving on taxes as much as possible are true. On #2, we know Jerry is a power guy. He always has been. He has tried to pick each commissioner and takes a special pride in turning down owners he doesn't think are good for the game. There is zero chance he will leave his OWN franchise to chance. Not only are his wishes known, I would bet all of gregs houses that his plans are already underway, they are written down, and know to those who need to know them. If it is Ishbia, it is him. If it is Hodson, it is her. If it is someone we have no idea about, those people already know. It makes logical sense that the dude who is now up to 35% ownership IS the guy who is buying Jerry's shares upon his death (otherwise, why?), it does make sense that they also have a control succession plan. Whether that is death, or something sooner, who knows. We all know Jerry will absolutely lie to the media to control a narrative, and feed complete BS to his people to further whatever story he is telling at the time. I do vibe with the idea that Jerry is sticking around long enough to do the dirty work for the stadium and TV deal, but who knows what the truth actually is.

  10. Jerry Reinsdorf bought the White Sox in 1981. The first time they ever made the playoffs in consecutive years was 2020-2021. During his ownership run, they are 3419-3495, wonderfully below average. Since 2023, they are 106-233. In the last decade, they are 670-862. In the last 20 years, they are 1487-1666. ....... So to answer that question, my response would be dramatic improvements. You really don't need to put much effort in to get those dramatic improvements. Jerry has done a fantastic job at setting the bar incredibly low.

  11. Gee I wonder who voted for that last option

  12. I don't really see how it couldn't get better. Ishbia's were not scared to spend $ on the Suns. JR is stuck in the 80s. Not saying the results on the field will necessarily change, but I think the ownership strategies most certainly will.

  13. The Ishbias would not have abandoned their pursuit of the Twins and invested more in the Sox if there wasn't a plan. I think we can all agree nothing is imminent, but articles like this (and others) are written without knowing what is going on, and there's probably some White Sox "leaked" information that isn't 100% truthful. As someone else pointed out earlier, this team under competent ownership could make a lot of money. It's probably going to be a while, but I see this as a positive development.

  14. Cause the White Sox with a capable owner would print money.

  20. I’ve been saying it for awhile but the fact that this team didn’t have a a young outfielder and can’t find any outfielder better than bums like Jankowski and Palacios is absolutely pathetic.

  30. Can we just stop the Vargas at lead off experiment already? Everyone knows Meidroth is the best option there, I don't care how long he has been in the bigs. Just stop already.

  33. I think if he plays 140 games and hits the 300/370/440 it would take to put up 5.5 bWAR you can hand him the trophy. But if we're in fantasy land, lets go for 330/400/500 and 8 bWAR. That would really seal it.

  35. Michael is a fail son with an undergrad degree from ASU and is in his late 30s or early 40s at this point. He's done nothing since taking over the Bulls and cemented them as one of the worst situations in all of the NBA before somehow stumbling into Matas and Giddey. Keep him away from the Sox, one Reinsdorf is enough and hopefully Ishbia cleans house from top to bottom when he takes over.

  36. On the few situations when he has spoken publicly about it he has always said he has told his family that when he dies they should "keep the Bulls and sell the Sox."

  38. I would love to see that happen...however, love Paul Skenes but if these awards are a popularity contest...people like Jackson Merrill (who had a helluva rookie season) finish behind the beauty queen. Is Chase a beauty queen or a very solid ballplayer? I know those questions aren't answered yet...but I think it would take an INCREDIBLE year for him to win that award.

  40. For people who think this will take 5 years or more, the question is why? What do the Reinsdorf’s have to gain waiting so long? Again, other than Jerry being bored, there is no rationale for keeping their stake in the team when they have a motivated buyer who would likely blow all other alternatives out of the water. And even crazier is this notion that’s Jerry’s sons will somehow hold onto the team for an extended period of time. Again, why? And how would they be able to afford running a team when they minimal accumulated wealth? They will almost certainly have to sell the White Sox to keep their cash cow that is the Bulls. Jerry has telegraphed this for years. The only difference is that with the Ishbia’s already on board and currently the largest shareholders (based on deals that Jerry helped facilitate), it’s clear as day that the transition plan is already in the works. It’s only a matter of time before this happens unless you believe all stakeholders will act against their own best interests moving forward.

  41. Ha! I don’t know if I ever would use that list even if i wasn’t an admin. how else would I know that tray is calling someone a liar about where they live because he doesn’t like their opinions on the Sox? Can’t find that kind of entertainment everywhere, and then as an added bonus we get his thoughts on billionaires so honestly what’s the hall of fame list even for

  42. It’s absurd and it’s clear that people like NBB just spit the messaging that Jerry wants made public. The simple reality is Jerry is the boss until a deal is finalized between the Ishbia’s and Reinsdorf’s or he dies. In either case, it’s wild to assume that will be 5+ years.
    2 points
  43. I mean I haven't followed the details of this super closely, but it was reported not long ago that Ishbia owned ~5%. Now it's 35%. It seems like pretty good news even though we know they were adding shares. They aren't adding shares for any reason other than to acquire the rest when available, one would think. Seems like good news, even if this stretches on a few years.
