  1. Most of this is just blue sky hopes and dreams, but this part... Stearns and Getz are nothing alike. Stearns made hay in a small market maximizing everything he touched in Milwaukee, and was stolen away by the Mets after an exhaustive search. Getz failed upwards, had terrible results in his previous role, and was the result of no search at all. They couldn't be more different.

  2. If they're playing service tricks with a guy whose more likely to be out of the league than in it in 6 years, shame on them.

  3. Yikes. He's almost run neutral on FGs defensive values now. He leads our team in fWAR. If you want Sosa gone, you're insane. FGs -.7 runs below average. As a team the Sox are -40. Statcast: 55th percentile defender. Run neutral. You can use the eye test or you can use advanced metrics. Hell use both for all I care but don't ignore the metrics. He's fine at 2B. He works to improve his first step he could be solid.

  4. It's almost as if... one trait of a good leader/builder is that when they leave, things keep churning in the right direction because they build an infrastructure that's not reliant on one person being there.

  6. Really happy the Sox gave Lenyn a real shot this year rather than signing over him. Can't say he necessarily deserved it, but this is what happens when you let guys get comfy. Now we suddenly have a 2-2.5 war infielder with 4 more years of control.

  7. I hope there never comes a day when MLB totally destroys the National League and American League as entities. It would be such a Manfred move, though. Welcome to World Series match ups between the Western Conference and Eastern Conference champs! Please, Dear God, no. I'd also be very surprised if MLB decides to make their 2 expansion teams in Charlotte AND Nashville. Too close to each other and they'd both carve up the Braves' existing fan base area.

  9. This is why when the other team "mails it in" with a position player, you swing out of your damn shoes and put a 10 spot on their ass. Yes LaRussa, you go for the throat.

  21. I believe that the GM and the Manager need to be on the same page on certain issues but ultimately any in game decisions should be made by the manager and I think it was Venable’s decision and his only to remove Baldwin from Saturday nights game in the 5th inning after a hit and 2 nice plays in right field including a perfect throw to double off a runner at first base, at least he let him play the whole game Sunday with Baldwin responding with 3 line drive hits. It's about building confidence in young players. They should put Brooks in LF and leave him there the rest of the year and Beni can DH.

  22. Every team wanted to hire Stearns. Getz wouldnt be hired by any other mlb team. The crazy comparisons to other GMs is wild.

  32. This team is so inconsisist but they have really put together some excellent offensive outbursts post ASG. I'd guess we're about run neutral after tonight in pythag.

  38. I don't know. I want to say that Quentin Tarantino used one of his songs in a soundtrack (Girl Habit), covered by a current artist, and I went down the rabbit hole. Probably his most famous song - the Pope condemned it for what sure sounds like an orgasm at the end, and that made it shoot to #1 around the world. Serge Gainsbourg & Jane Birkin - Je t'aime... moi non plus/Original videoclip (Fontana 1969)

  39. Nah, he’s baseball dumb. He’s perfectly fine for right now but I don’t see anything special there and we have more promising players to give at bats to.

  41. Maybe you are right, I don't know. I find it hard to think though that a manager like Bob Melvin, Bruce Bochy, Dave Roberts or Terry Francona would agree to that undermining of their authority.

  42. A good solution would be put another NFL team in Chicago. Have the team play at Soldier Field and have the team play in the AFC conference.

  44. This current front office has not proven to me that they can draft, develop players, or trade for players competently. And Getz has had terrible results so far in the latter two. Maybe the Crochet deal will work out well for us, but last I saw, we don't have any other Garret Crochets sitting around to be traded for a decent haul. "Well, the [name some other MLB team] went from 100+ losses to the playoffs in a couple of years, therefore so can we" is terrible game plan for a MLB franchise.

  46. We are such a hopeless fanbase that the team only being the second-worst team in the sport has people thinking we’ll be in the playoffs in two years.
