  7. Would you still be cheering for a lockout if the Blue Jays didn’t blow one of the multiple chances they had to win it? Either way, a team with a top 5 payroll was going to win the World Series. Either way, a team that offered Ohtani $700 million was going to win the World Series. The Dodgers barely squeaking by doesn’t really change things IMO.

  8. I agree that fans generally don’t credit owners for winning, but that doesn’t mean owners never get recognized. I’m not sure I even know what’s being argued here, which is what I get for butting in in the middle of it lol.

  12. It seems that it should be more than a commitment to winning. There is that lingering survey from last year rating them in the basement of organizations league wide. When a new owner comes in he will have to fire everyone and fix things from the ground up. I think players place a premium on a satisfactory experience more so than just winning. https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6406636/2025/06/11/best-worst-mlb-manager-2025-player-poll/

  13. Monangai and Loveland supporters were validated this weekend...now they have too many options in Moore Kmet Odunze Burden Swift etc. A lot like Detroit's problem right now. Defense wins playoff games, but offense more fun to watch.

  15. You were commenting on how the Dodgers own the Japanese market. It’s not hard when some owners bow out before the guy is even officially a free agent.

  21. Really bro? Now we're complaining about making the playoffs? At the very least it means the team is progressing

  22. Who cares about playoffs right now? Why is that even a concern, they just need to keep moving forward and get better. Their cornerbacks are decimated, the special teams is awful, but the running game is getting better, and Caleb is taking steps forward. It’s not perfect but I like what Johnson is doing so far

  23. Monangai was awesome today, 176 yards on the ground, 22 in the air, 2 touchdowns. Great game for him

  27. The Sox are not in compete now mode, so any FA they sign will not move the needle anywhere but down. If you sign Tucker, Bellinger, Framber, maybe Cease and Naylor, you are tangibly improving your club. Sox aren’t gonna do that. Everyone else is sorta meh, so whether people want to play here is kinda moot. I could see them picking up Tauchman, signing a platoon bat like Lane Thomas or maybe Austin Hayes, then maybe Adrian Houser and someone like Gregory Soto and calling it an offseason. I think they won’t spend until they know what they have in Braden, Hagen, Schultz, McDougal, and Antonacci. If some of those guys, esp Braden, are good enough to be part of the core, I could see them going after a big fish after that.

  30. Eventually with new ownership I think premier free agents will want to play with the Sox, the first thing would be showing the baseball world that the franchise is committed to winning.

  31. You have to pay an extra premium to get players to sign with the White Sox. It’s not just “offer the most money” anymore. It’s “offer the most money plus x%”. I’m not sure that will ever allow multiple good signings.

  32. How's it working out? The White Sox just set a major league record for the worst season in the 125 year history of major league baseball, and the 2nd worst ever for 2 and 3 seasons combined. Give me trying and failing over not caring at all.

  33. I think it is fair to expect an owner to recruit a front office that can put together a winning program. So that's basically the baseline of competency for me. He has consistently failed at that for decades. He's failed at what I believe is the minimum to pass.

  35. They have tremendous impact. But they won't receive credit. How much credit do you give JR for those Bulls trophies? We're agreeing the worst owner of sports has seven combined championships in two sports.

  38. How about a Wade Boggs ceiling? He was 24 when he came up to the Red Sox. .318/.412/.386 minor league split. Ant is 23 with a minor league .298/.439/.413 split. Boggs averaged 8 homers a year in the majors but put up a career 328/.415/.443. Boggs had a 7 year stretch where he put up an average of 8 WAR a year. Both left handed hitters. Boggs had the Green Monster to plop 45 doubles off of, but Ant has way more speed. If one is going to dream, dream bigger than Kwan (though Kwan is having a nice career).

  44. From the names in the article, I'd be fine with: Martin Perez again - he was good when he could pitch and shouldn't be expensive Anthony DeSclafani - seems like a reunion with Bannister might help Cody Ponce seems like a good guy to bet on given his success in the KBO with good stuff, though there will probably be competition for him Anthony Kay - throws strikes and generates grounders in NPB The rest don't seem as intriguing to me, and this is even including my love for unknown Japanese pitchers with NPB numbers they have no hope of reproducing here.

  45. I think you gotta stick with Caleb through at least his 2nd contract. We all agree we got the coach, right? He should get the best out of Caleb then. Imagine cutting bait on him and then he goes to Tampa or Minnesota and finally comes into his own like Baker or Darnold. Gotta have patience with these young guys. QB is one of the toughest jobs in sports.
