  1. Whenever Luis was hanging out with Colson in the dugout last year, he looked notably happier and more energized. Give me those vibes + Mune

  2. Been following the twitter fights on whether to trade Robert. Hard lines drawn on something that nobody views that impactful. On one side, some fans would rather keep due to painfully thin OF and dreams of 70 wins. On other, some fans point out he’ll not be around for next contention window and may get hurt and should trade now. Both seem to admit he’s unlikely to get much either way. So…don’t really care. Trading people is fun when they get back good players. Trading this guy to uh save money and optimize control but also he sucks and will get back nothing - not that appealing to me so who cares.

  3. Moncada had a solid 2025 - how does one define that? He played in 30 games?

  5. "Tekerman joked that Robert is so indefatigable in the batting cage that his presence is sometimes discouraging to his younger clients, convincing them they'll never make the majors if Robert represents the sort of work ethic necessary to play at the highest level" "He’s a mentor to his teammates, especially the younger ones, with great work ethic and a great sense of humor.” "It speaks to his work ethic, which speaks to how great he can be,”... “He’s got a really good work ethic. I saw it in the spring, and I was like, ‘OK, maybe this is (just because it’s) the spring. He’s getting after it in the spring.’ He gets after it every single day." “He practices extremely hard. He’s extremely focused.” "“What he does defensively, offensively. What he’s capable of doing, and certainly on the basepaths, we just love Luis Robert.” "He shows up every day very motivated. Sometimes in baseball it just clicks and you don’t really know why. But it’s certainly not going to click if someone doesn’t have the right work ethic and that’s not the case with Luis. He’s a pro and wants to get this right." I could add more and more quotes from various times from various people, but I think you get the point. Imagine still questioning Robert's work ethic in the year of our Lord 2026.

  6. If Murakami ends up with 2.1 fWAR and a 118 wRC+ I’d be pretty happy. That’s around an .800 OPS which compared to Vaughn looks like Big Frank is over there again.

  7. That stretch in Charlotte for Baldwin was insane. It honestly felt like he went deep every single game for a couple weeks.

  8. Plus Mr.Source of Irritation talks out of both sides of his mouth. He has talked about Sosa's low baseball IQ as much as anyone here.

  9. Keep him at this point. Maybe he has a 2023 type season and we get 3 hitters who pop 30 hrs in our lineup. Have a little fun and if someone gets desperate trade him. Or don't and we lose him for nothing which at this point doesn't move the needle for me either way. But trading him for next to nothing and eating money sounds very unappealing.

  10. Meh. He won’t be healthy and if he is, rental bats don’t bring back any return anyway.
    3 points
  11. He finally has some other bats in the lineup and his value doesn’t justify his ceiling. I know he’s oft injured but I’d rather bank on the upside with more lineup protection than give him up for simply whatever you can get right now. I know you really want the Sox to get that comp pick but if they’re gonna trade Robert they gotta get someone back that has more of an impact than a Chase Petty. And if the offer isn’t out there hold him, it seems as though Chris Getz isn’t desperate to move him.

  14. Getz is losing what little leverage he had. As it stands, we’re probably trading Robert just to save Jerry a little money. From a fan standpoint, I am pulling the plug on my Robert trade endorsement which was tepid anyway. Barring some unforeseen crazed GM that blows Getz away with a top prospect Revisit this idea at the deadline if Robert raised his value

  15. Yes. People shittalked David Wells for being a fat slob here and still do. Also yes, people had problems with Lance Lynn as well. You're not helping your argument here.

  16. Being in shape, playing elite defense and base stealing are all traits of hustle guys that work hard. EXCEPT for Luis Robert, for some reason.
    2 points
  17. That's a bit different as you can actually SEE that. It isn't something made up to fit a narrative. If Robert looked like Lance Lynn and had the same physical breakdown injuries, sure question away. If he made boneheaded plays on a regular basis, again, question away on his IQ. As it stands the dude is absolutely ripped and plays some of the best CF on the planet. He's even played while OBVIOUSLY injured. Did anyone question TLRs work ethic when he couldn't be bothered to know the rules? How about David Wells 50 pounds overweight with back injuries? Sure didn't stop Wells from shittalking Frank.

  18. The Reds needed another righty outfielder to platoon with Bleday and backup CF. Myers has hit lefties well in his short time. I doubt the Reds just traded their #18 prospect for Myers to not play him. LF: Bleday / Myers CF: Friedl / Myers RF: Marte They also have Lux and Benson to play the outfield. I think this pretty much ends the Robert to the Reds talk. Hopefully Getz doesn’t settle for Luisangel Acuña now. 🤢

  21. I pointed it out at one point that it looks like he’s a “vibes guy.” Like plays to the level of the talent around him. I just don’t think he’ll get more at the deadline/possibly may not even be available due to injury.

  22. This. 2029 is still a long ways away, but there is at least some glimmer of hope off in the distance. We have no idea how Ishbia will run things, but at bare minimum, operating like an actual major league team would still be a vast departure from the past decade.

  23. A wildly undisciplined hitter is going to struggle significantly when he’s part of the worst offense in major league history which was the case two years ago. He has worked hard these past two seasons to improve his plate discipline, but pitchers could simply pitch around him and it impacted his overall results. However, in the second half of last year, things really started to click as the talent level around him improved a ton. He suddenly went from a K rate in the 29% to 35% range against RHP down to the 16% to 18% range. The reality is Robert can be a well above average hitter due to his power, but in order to get the pitches he can actually punish he needs some other decent hitters around him. I don’t see why that’s unreasonable.

  24. Plus, I don’t think you draft a guy wondering if you’re going to be able to extend him almost a decade later or not.
    2 points
  25. Because he had nothing around him for most of that time. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that he started playing better once Teel and Colson were called up.
    2 points
  26. Yeah and if he does break out a team has him for a year and a half for $20 mil next year assuming the Sox don’t eat any money. I think you take the gamble and find other ways to go about getting pitching. I think there is something to be said about the mental aspect of showing up to the stadium 162 days of the year knowing your team is ass and you have to be the one to carry the offense and give 100% effort knowing you’re gonna lose most likely. If you paid attention when Montgomery came up and some of the kids started hitting there was a jolt in Robert, I truly believe there’s something still there, just needs to focus on staying healthy.
    2 points
  27. If I’m not mistaken you said that teams were offering the Cedric Mullins-type return to the Sox for Robert. If that’s the case take that at the deadline if it’s there if you are that desperate to get rid of him. And odds are he’s not healthy but I’m taking the gamble.

  28. At worst, you get nothing out of him because he gets hurt again because he is so injury-prone.

  29. Oops. I missed this thread, so I'll say "Merry Christmas Bedford Falls." "And Happy New Year to You ... in Jail!" Kudos to all Chicagoans on the South Side who put up Christmas decorations. Nobody in American respects Christmas cheer as well as Chicagoans and their beautiful outside lights. Let's hope the New Year is special and love is the only four-letter word we need to utter all of 2026. GO SOX. GO BEARS. GO CHICAGO HOT DOGS AND ITALIAN BEEF AND BAR PIZZA! Happy NY baby!

  32. Fair or unfair regarding Robert it didn't help the situation when he didn't even know the name of the White Sox hitting coach.

  36. Caulfield changed this from a general MLB FA thread to "White Sox" thread. I was putting the Sox signings in the MLBTR offseason outlook thread. But here's a non-Sox signing that is interesting in that some at the Sox Machine fan/roster threads yearned for Harvey.

  37. 2023 he had a bad April but OPS'd over 1.000 in May and June. Maybe I should have said long odds instead of odds are agsinst it happening so everything youre saying is not lost on me. But I did also call it hoping for another Pope Miracle. I just think the situation calls for Getz to go for it as far as trying to get the best return possible. I also thinks it helps to have got the number 1 pick in the draft along with a large pool of draft money. It somewhat mitigated Getz just settling for the best of mediocre offers. We also disagree that a TDL return would only slightly improve IF his WAR and ISO got back to levels in 3 months of 2026 that we have not seen the last 2 seasons. Im also discounting my own JR factor cheapness level scenario that does not allow for paying both Murakami and Robert salary's .
    1 point
  38. One other thing we have to be aware of if the Murakami signing was predicated on JR insisting that Robert money is at least halfway eliminated. I wouldnt put it past JR to insist a Robert trade be completed by opening day. Getz may not have the luxury of paying him and Murakami at the same time.

  39. Then so be it, I don’t want to give Robert up for anything short of another impact player either in the rotation or in the lineup. I think this is very different than an Andrew Vaughn situation, if Robert gets traded for scraps and turns it on, I’ll speak for myself, I’d be pissed. I truly think Getz feels the same way, they need something of significance back for his ceiling. If the offers aren’t great then I’d rather keep him for the next two seasons and risk losing him for nothing than dumping him for nothing now. And yes I’m fully aware of his injury history

  40. I think the motivation and work ethic stuff is almost certainly BS. These guys have played through injuries for most of their careers and it has robbed them of ability. I really don't think it gets better.

  41. His chase rate has improved two straight years and his BB rate was actually above league average for the first time last year. He’s made legit improvements in terms of plate discipline vs. where he was a few years ago. With a stronger lineup around him he should get better pitches to hit and be able to utilize his raw power much more efficiently. I expect him to rebound with the bat next year, but have much less confidence in his ability to stay healthy.

  42. The JR vs. Boras thing has pretty much worked its way out, hasn't it? It's not really a concern that JR avoids Boras, he avoids the big money. And Boras is big money.

  43. If Robert is surrounded by players taking walks and working counts, he might stop swinging at everything himself. Of course, that is a really big if. Self awareness and change can be almost impossible sometimes.

  44. C’mon Ray Ray. I love your posts and I am usually the negative Nancy, but for once the Sox got the #1 pick with 27% odds in a draft with what looks like a consensus superstar. We should all be creaming our pants. It also makes it so the Sox can’t really f*** up their pick.
