  1. A lot of people have already touched on many of the annoying things about this guy. When the score is 9-0 and the Sox hit a solo home run to finally get on the board me as a fan is like "Geez, finally they did something" where Schriffen is like over the top in your face beat my chest about it. There are very few things that deserve celebration when getting your ass kicked.
  2. Right now the problem with Getz as GM is the problem with Getz as head of player development: he can't SCOUT. He has absolutely zero eye for talent. At least Hahn preferred tools, even if a guy had zero actually ability. Getz likes 1 tool players that can't play as a bonus. There's zero upside to most these guys, relievers, OF and SP. The only spots filled by young talent are guys you really can't miss on giving what we traded.
  3. If he was running on the pitch it’s still a stolen base. And it’s passed ball not pass ball. And it wasn’t Peters’ ball, it was Acuna’s. Learn the game.
  4. Here's the thing. I think guys like Hawk were announcers first, and Sox fan's 2nd. Yes, they were going to try to promote things, and show things in a positive light, but they weren't going to insult our intelligence with obvious BS. That's not John, and I think that's why he rubs people the wrong way. He's a promoter first, and an announcer second. On top of it, we have had some of the best of all time sit in that booth, and we realize when this isn't it. You can't force feed people into happiness. The harder you push, the more skeptical it will be. The Us vs Them thing just makes it worse. We aren't fighting Nazis here, we are watching baseball. If it is bad baseball, tell us it is bad baseball. Don't piss on my head and ask me to thank you for the rain.
  5. How some of you guys have watched baseball as long as you have and think that was Peters' ball is crazy. CF has the gaps. This is LL stuff. You have to back off as a corner guy if he misses it he misses it, it's the CF ball tho.
  6. I'm sure he's a nice guy but that is about near the bottom in attributes for a good play by play guy.
  7. This was a wise decision
  8. Reprinted from the wrong board. At this stage in a rebuild, the bullpen should be scrap heap and our own prospects. Getz, however, has put resources into this bullpen. There some scrap-heap, but it's not via the waiver wire - he traded for most of those scrap-heap guys. He signed free agents; he traded for Hicks' fat contract. And where are the young prospects...the guys drafted 3 or 4 years ago and flamed out as starters? Well one, course, is on the Guardians...Getz chose to protect org guys over our own high draft choice who also happens to throw 98. This bullpen is a mess and it's absolutely on Getz (not that that matters). Good rebuilds take 3-4 years. This is year 3.
  9. If he cant do longer relief with a 4 run deficit, then he has no reason to be on a roster.
  10. Because the starters absolutely suck and can’t provide innings
  11. Of course they did, he's a switchhitter.
  12. Steve stone needs to retire more than Schiff needs to be replaced. There, I said it.
  13. Hes throwing with the wrong arm
  14. I'd be shocked if he's back for 2027. I was told he was gone this year because the relationship with some others in the booth was untenable. I was very surprised when he was announced to return. He had a year left on his contract though. I know of multiple young broadcasters from other markets who were expecting to interview for the PBP job last offseason in anticipation of an opening.
  15. Agreed...........John has enthusiasm real or fake? Probably both at times, but he is not a baseball man. He is barely a professional. Besides his many mistakes his take seems to be that of a casual fan. Time for Stone to roll away. He has become a caricature of himself. When Beckham feels like an improvement you know its gotten bad.
  16. I like to learn about the game from the announcers. Hawk and Wimpy were great for that. Hawk and Don Drysdale were great, too. Not just the stories, but explaining why something happens. I get none of that from Schriffen. He doesn't even ask thoughtful questions. "Green light on 2 and 0?" is just inane. With all the hate Schriff gets here, I certainly wanted to cut the guy some slack. I hate his cadence and that taunting tone. It's like acting. Don't "act". Let yourself feel the anger in a scene and be angry. I feel like Schriffen's trying to act excited instead of letting himself feel excited.
  17. I have watched enough games to form my own opinions and tune out announcers, especially old guys like Stone who repeat themselves ad nauseum. Hey, Andrew Vaughn was the best hitter in college. Really now? Hawk and Harry were brash and entertaining, Bennetti was an insufferable nerd, and Schriff is a young man who is awkward at times. He tries too hard to please fans and critics. Some folks will never give him a fvking break. The announcer should not be an issue, at least for people who know and enjoy baseball and don't need to be entertained by a clown like Harry or be titillated with trivia or arcane side stories. Can Stone demonstrate his grip on a circle change again ?
  18. This is kind of wild to declare lol.
  19. Problem is, homerism should go both ways... with Schiff, he feels none of the pain or angst from failure and embarrassing showings... instead he's just a total rah rah guy in the face of facts. Fans can't relate to a guy like that, in my opinion.
  20. Fedde against Junk. In other words: garbage against garbage.
  21. I can’t believe I’m saying this but you are spot on. Besides taking entire series off because he doesn’t want to travel, who can Stone even work with these days? He’s a twisted bitter old man who hates everyone except for his pet dogs. Remember when he joined Twitter just to yell at Sox fans? The dude is an asswipe these days.
  22. Peters either is swiping a bag or getting picked off lol
  23. He is more tolerable with with Bacon than he is with Stone.
  24. General disapproving silence is a Ford Frick Award winner
  25. that's the CF's ball every time. Luis would've made it known then stared down Oscar Colas or whatever bum was playing RF.
  26. that was 100% on Peters lol
  27. Venable out-managed, over and again. LH reliever struck out two lefties, then Venable allows Benny to bat and whiff on the same sweeper trash. Not a good in-game Manager. Acuna is a butcher in CF. Two errors and interfered with the RFer making him miss...all in the same critical and possibly decisive inning. Maybe try Tristan Peters out there.
  28. Yeah I don't think it works that way.
  29. I like 5:40 starts, this game is moving along. Fedde is doing his ball on a string trick nicely tonite, offense looks good. Let’s get a few more here and win the series today
  30. Great on the Sox, sucks when he leaves, great again. Getz you genius!
  31. Wait until Teel & Baldwin are back. And the rotation isn’t good right now, but Smith, McDougel, Schultz, & Thorpe will all be pushing for spots soon enough.
  32. Fedde looks good so far. Don't mind pitching around Caissie, probably the most dangerous guy in the lineup.
  33. 5 balls in play for the Sox, all over 96mph EV Also worth noting Mune's 105 EV (and near 80mph bat speed lol) vs. a 96.5mph fastball
  34. Great start to the gamethread boys.
  35. *Embraced by the blogs with close-knit affiliations to Brooks. I truly hope that they bring in someone worthy of the position after the contract expires. They tried something new, it hasn't really worked. Cut the cord and be done.
  36. This is a solid breakout. The good ones have a healthy respect for talent, even if it is on the other team. There is nothing wrong with that at all. Again to me (and as someone who does this as a hobby since the early 1990s) it shows that you are being honest with the folks who took time to listen to what you have to say. It shows you have a respect for them, and your opponents, and most of all for the game being played.
  37. That's just it. A good announcer can RTFS (read the friendly scoreboard) and adjust accordingly. It's like the dude who get a tech celebrating a dunk while down 40 with a minute to go for a 2-18 team. Time and place bro.
  38. He was/is just a terrible fit for the typical Sox fan. He's a rah-rah, over the top announcer that likes to bring a certain "attitude" to the broadcast. The Sox are 102-226 since he started. You flip that record around, the announcer could basically shout racial slurs into the microphone and no one would care. I don't think he's very good at his job, but he was put in a very tough situation knowing his skillset.
  39. Yeah, coming into Miami with an 0-3 record, I would have liked him to have more of a reserved/subdued tone for some of these calls, kind of like, "Okay, now we're seeing what they're supposed to look like", instead of "OH NO, YOU DON'T RUN ON EDGAR QUERO!!" They just had their asses handed to them, nobody's quite ready for that taunting tone.
  40. I'm sure if he was my next door neighbor, I would really like him. Seems like a nice guy, loves dogs, must be bright. He went to Dartmouth. I agree with the poster above, his baseball knowledge isn't one of 30 jobs in country up to snuff. And i agree with the promoter first, announcer second analysis. Harry Caray was a promoter, but he gave his audience a little credit. Schriff either thinks the audience is really dumb, or perhaps he doesn't understand bad baseball when he sees it. I do think his South side stand up line was genius if used correctly. His first time using it was a spring training game in a year they set the MLB record for losses. If the Sox were good, we'd all be saying it. He was put in a bad place. Horrible team, replacing someone very popular...but he isn't the guy. I think they know that, but these guys cost money, so they probably are waiting for his contract to end.
  41. I don't mind the energetic calls or the overt homerism, or even the bizarre, headscratching things he sometimes says; what I don't like is that he doesn't seem to know much about the game of baseball or its players. There are a lot of players to study, not exclusively on the Sox major league roster but the entire league or at the very least the AL Central, but it's something you ought to do if it's your job to talk about it 162 times a year. Benetti, who I think is better at calling football and basketball than baseball, never has this specific issue. It's a preparation thing. For many fans of the sport who don't get paid to do it, it's just a fun hobby. I think if you could combine McKnight and Schriffen into one announcer, he would be very good at the job. McKnight doesn't sound good when he does play-by-play but he knows the sport well enough. Anyway, Derrick Rose won MVP his third year. Maybe Schriff improves in a contract year.
  42. He sounds like a guy that knows his job security is not great. As it should be. He brings little. Stone too. Bacon is better.
  43. Check this in your settings
  44. Here are prospects 16-30: https://www.futuresox.net/2026/03/31/futuresox-chicago-white-sox-2026-pre/
  45. I am curious to see what Everson Pereira can do if given playing time. Nice win
  46. Nice game for Vargas. It will be very nice if he can continue to improve. With Vargas at 3rd, Montgomery at SS, and Mune at 1st, the White Sox infield could hit 80+ home runs. Which is good considering the outfield will not hit many. Martin pitched okay. Some control issues, but he battled through five innings. Newcomb looked as advertised. He'll be a nice middle reliever who can eat a few innings. Let's just hope he isn't overused. First win feels good. Hopefully it'll be the first of more than 62...
  47. I have no stance on this particular exchange between posters. I will say, generally, forums are not places where "positivity" occurs with the fan bases. It is usually a place to vent frustrations which are ultimately negative. If someone struggles with seeing that on a regular basis, then they will struggle reading an online forum of any kind. You either learn to redirect the conversation or manage your own house. The people who are worried about being bullied need to learn how to not let words from an anonymous person not have weight in their existence. They are just words and they will only resonate if a person allows them to resonate. Bending behavior to contour to the disordered mind is not a recipe for success for a society. One must learn to govern his or her self. I believe it is the fault of the quest for some kind of acceptance, relevance, or a combination there of. I've been posting on forums (including this one) since I was a teenager some 20 years ago. Back then, there was a desire to reach out to places I could go and experience community since I struggled with community elsewhere. I see it as human to want to do such. The problem occurs when you rely on it for self worth when it is a responsibility of the user to find that through their actions in life. Joy will break if it is built on a weak foundation. Some material is better suited for it. Everyone should be cautious for what is holding up the base of their being.
  48. Everyone knows your act as well. You think that you are some grand prognosticator and always make sure to give yourself a pat on the back whether your predictions were right or wrong. You also feel the need to argue with other posters who aren’t as optimistic every day as you are about this team. Usually the mods are your favorite target for whatever reason, but apparently I am your obsession now. I truly think you enjoy arguing with other posters on this site as much as you enjoy a Sox victory. You are the most insecure Sox fan and poster on this site. Trust me, I don’t need or want your tears. I have a successful career and family, including two teenage sons. My older son has had more success with his HS football team than the Sox have had in over 20 years. That made me feel truly good. The Sox being good would be a nice piece of enjoyment on the side but it doesn’t ultimately impact my life, nor does it truly impact yours. This is a Sox message board. We are all here to talk about the team, whether they are performing like crap and losing or playing well and winning. It’s not as gravely serious as you are making it out to be. Typical bully psychology? 🤣 Are you a therapist? You need to get a grip, and perhaps another hobby other than arguing with anyone who would dare talk negatively about a baseball team and labeling them a bully. Once again, 🤣 Also, no baseball fan that only wanted to align themselves with a winner would choose to be a White Sox fan. History would say you are absolutely delusional for doing so. I recently took you off my Ignore List even after numerous other posters said that it would be a mistake. They were right. Fortunately, back to the Ignore List you go. Now you can go back to arguing with the mods to get your jollies off. Sorry in advance to the mods…
