I don't think you understand. He is wealthy so you are not allowed to dislike him. His wealth is proof that he is uniquely imbued with God's grace.

I'm pretty disinterested in Detmers for what his cost is likely to be. One season of 100+ IP with < 4 ERA in his career, so the upside is limited. And for folks who are worried about Martin's recent fatigue signaling regression, well... Career 4.69 ERA, 4.39 on the season, 4.55 in his last 10 starts, but because he's 27 with two arb years left (and had 3 great starts in June) I've seen packages like Schultz/Hagen + Carlson + Bergolla thrown out there for him. That's an enthusiastic no from me.

Obviously all of my opinions ruled but it’s fun to read just to again be impressed that Getz actually did the impossible thing I didn’t think he could do in this thread - he improved our player development and scouting decisions. Everyone’s opinions are understandable when you remember the learned helplessness we were in where we knew we had to get a player already good because they would only get worse on our team. no zealot like a convert - and I’ve never been more of a believer in a gm than I am or Getz right now.

I'm not sure there were many who liked this trade when it happened. The reaction got worse and worse as Vargas struggled on a VERY bad Sox team. The clip of him sitting in the corner of the dugout with a look of absolute despair mimicked what we were feeling. Now that clip is used in the "how it started...how it's going" videos. Talk about an incredible turnaround. Turned out to be a pretty good trade.

I was a big Wes Kath guy as well. Seemed like a great pick at the time. HS guys are just wild cards. I get why the greedy MLB owners want to limit them in the draft, but eff off.

Excited for this to get thrown out the window when the season starts on July 4th weekend.

And to piggyback on Calis points about watching them, man I grew up with Sportscenter as my alarm clock. I knew the commercial timing and knew if I wasn’t up on the second break I was in trouble and gonna be late for the bus lol The creativity is just gone. They don’t make new shows that blow our minds anymore. There is nothing unique like Stump The Schwab, they rely on the screaming at you shows and content, they overpay guys like SAS and force him into sports he doesn’t really care for or watch and then they tell us that everyone is tuning in to watch him. No, man, you won’t let me watch anything without his loud dumb ass. The way have closed up shop on so many groundbreaking shows or minimized them to special events. ESPN has lost its way and they did it on purpose

It's less physically demanding to play 3000+ outs a year at 3rd than SS. In a sport where guys get injured jogging to first base, you might want to take some precautionary measures to preserve your superstars' careers, particularly when you have good alternatives. We've seen Colson's defense take a dip after sitting with a 'strained back' last month, his OAA has dropped from +9 to +5 in that time. He's 24-years-old now, how is that defense going to look when he's 29 and how is the strain going to affect his bat or ability to even play games? I'm still of the mind that Colson inevitably ends up at 1B and I think it's more fascinating that people are writing off Carlson/want to trade him prematurely when he's the best defender in the system with a potentially non-useless bat.

The 2020 White Sox, the "green shoots" version of that core, were 3rd in MLB in home runs. But again, I'm not down on this team at all -- I love the core and think it has a good chance to stick. And unlike the last flameout core we have a healthier wave of prospects on their way to fill whatever holes are created by injury, regression, the cheapness of an owner who might not be anxious to give Japanese Judge a record-destroying contract, etc. But those holes can open up quick, and I think we mentally lock guys into decade-long starting spots at our peril. (Not really, since what we as fans think and expect doesn't have any real-world stakes, but you know what I mean.) It's why it's so important to draft well, stockpile prospects, and not make rash moves for flashes-in-the-pan.

The real change was waking Jerry up. For the first time in his life, he is willing to spend on something outside of the major league roster. There are all kinds of stories out there about other people in the org hinting that they wanted to do more, and acting like they were doing more, which ended up being complete lies sold to us by a compliant local media, including even Getz himself talking about how much freedom he had to do anything he wanted. Hopefully this continues.

I was suspended at the 2024 deadline, so I wasn't able to comment. That being said, my views were that Vargas was a great acquisition, Fedde was smoke and mirrors, and Kopech was a head case who wouldn't amount to much beyond that season. I felt we needed to have patience for Perez and Albertus. Hate to say I told you so...

Getting rid of both Kenny Williams and Rick Hahn was the important first step in the process. The organization had fallen flat on its face under their leadership, which was made worse by them being in conflict with each other. That was a total shitshow.

I agree. Not sure if it was Getz, Ishbia, or someone else, but something has seemingly snapped them into doing things that are relevant to the decade they are actually in, and it's very refreshing.

The failure of the Sale trade/ Robert rebuild I think was a wakeup call to the foolish old man. He knew something was still wrong, and he still didn’t know what (which was basically him). I just think he stumbled around until finally realizing he was out of time, someone convinced him you have to stock the minors organically. He was still super awkward in empowering Getz and co, and obviously got lucky with Getz because the hiring process was Jerry B ***** 101, and Jerry is still doing Jerry things. But basically he began using his frontal lobe more than ever because he’s gonna die soon, and desperately opened up his mind to change before the clock runs out. Thats the movie.

Isn't 4.2 seconds from a right handed hitter a 60-65 FV grade for speed? That's wild if it turns out Bonemer has a 60 FV for speed instead of 40. That puts him in another level as a prospect, offensively and defensively. That's so exciting.

Getz has done a great job in this aspect. Having the pretty nice war room and the ESPN reporter tell all was a big balls moment. I'm def enjoying the ways the org is moving these days, however the process arrived at Getz, it's working. I was looking at some of the position player fWAR on those teams and in hindsight pretty mediocre. we had some pretty good SP for a minute, the position player side was a bunch of old guys holding on to some prime, some never would be guys and some talented but injury prone youngsters. Grandal was a s%*# signing overall, damn man, guy just gave up.

Chairman of the Board is a terrible nickname. Whoever came up with it should self-suspend for 10 days. That said, I’m glad the Sox finally have a grindy player who actually grinds. He’s one of my favorites, and it’s crazy how quickly he’s adapted to the outfield.

The new murderers' row is a bit of an overstatement. I'm overjoyed with the way things are trending for the Sox much earlier than I expected, but almost anybody on this list could go poof. This reminds me of when we used to just list out the names Moncada, Eloy, Abreu, Robert, Anderson...and Andrew Vaughn will be coming up, too! And Madrigal! We're already winning the division with this young core, just imagine when they all mature a couple more years! When Kopech is our ace! We all know what happened with that, but honestly that "murderers' row" was more plausible at the time than the one making up a team a few games over .500. I'm not ready to declare the likes of Chase Meidroth or Kyle Teel to be mainstays for years to come just yet. Wow, I sound like a real wet blanket! But I'm feeling a little whipsawed by the sudden turn to uncritical projections of a core that hasn't proven it can sustain success, and best-case projections for draft prospects who haven't proven anything yet. Am I on the right message board? I'm still a White Sox fan after all.
