Honestly, it really never crosses my mind that John Schriffen is black. He's just not good at his job even if he's less bad than we was when he started. Playing the race card shouldn't be a factor in deciding if it's best to move on to someone else. I liked DJ when he was on TV. He was obviously moved to the radio booth when Steve Stone became available after his falling out with the Cubs organization. They had Stone on the radio his first year with us, but they obviously weren't going to keep a well-known talent like him on the radio side permanently.

Talks about who he thinks is the "core" of the team: "Miguel Vargas, Chase Meidroth, Grant Taylor, Sean Burke and Sam Antonacci. No one else is untouchable, including Munetaka Murakami, who will be a free agent after ’27, and Kyle Teel, who did not deliver offensively and spent most of the season rehabbing injuries. The Sox need starting pitching and bullpen help, more contact hitters, a stronger bench and yes, more catching, as Teel and Edgar Quero both regressed." Talks about the pitching staff: "With Fedde gone, next year’s rotation should include Burke, Taylor, Hagen Smith and a free agent starter who will sign after the lockout ends. Veteran Sonny Gray would be a perfect choice. The rest of the ’26 starters who were demoted in the postseason can fight for the final spot, though Castillo, who is owed $22.7 million next year, is not a viable option." Talks about the strikeouts: "No 2027 Sox lineup can have both Murakami and Colson Montgomery in it and not expect 3-6 combined strikeouts a game between them, every game. Murakami has one year left on his two-year deal, and the Sox are open to an extension, which seems crazy after his second-half slide and postseason flop. Montgomery hit 31 home runs and won’t be a free agent for four more years, but he struggled to find a groove and struck out a major-league record 227 times. The idea of waiting until No. 1 pick Roch Cholowsky is ready to replace him at shortstop seems ludicrous. If the Sox can find a team that thinks they can fix Montgomery’s swing, go for it. They can always move Meidroth to short and Antonacci to second, then figure it out when Cholowsky is." Talks about the hitting coach: "The Sox’ offensive meltdown was not all Shomon’s fault. But if they’re hoping for improvement from Teel, Braden Montgomery, Murakami and the rest, maybe a change in hitting philosophy is needed." Talks about Pham: "There’s no warning label on Pham, but this kind of behavior was predictable. Venable could’ve escorted Pham out of the media room before the veteran made a scene, but chose to let him finish his rant. Pham didn’t help the Sox on the field, and he embarrassed himself off the field." Talks about Venable: "Venable is the likely favorite to be named American League Manager of the Year and deserves much credit for getting the Sox as far as he did. But analytics only go so far. Like his players, Venable can learn from his first postseason as manager. All in all, a remarkable journey for the Sox, who became relevant again in Chicago under Venable. But to stay that way, it will take more than a few tweaks this offseason."

Of qualifying LF's last year, Sam was the worst in baseball with -9 fielding run value. It's going to be really difficult to find a spot for all of these guys because Sam simply cannot be your opening day LF next year. Colson is a top 10 SS in the league in the same metrics, Chase is the 6th best 2B. Roch and Bonemer complicate things further. Sam could be a light power DH/platoon role if you can find someone to take on Beni's contract or just eat it. I think Beni has to go regardless so you can see if Colson and Mune can bounce back before you make a long term decision on them, it's difficult to see how both of them stay on the team past 2027 if you extend Vargas as you should. Good problem to have I suppose.
  5. Happy to watch Jose Ramirez botch a routine grounder with 2 outs, leading to 3 runs scoring. Suck it!

I will say this much on Schiff. I have yet to say anyone use phrases or descriptions of his talents that included coded references to his heritage, or aspects of his personality that go towards black culture.
  7. Would you make wholesale changes due to a 7 game sample in May, June or July?

Antonacci's OPS against LHP was carried by the fact he was HBP 11 times. If that is him going forward fine, but I am worried that he hasn't shown the ability to hit the ball against them. 18 singles, 4 doubles, 5 walks in 114 plate appearances just shows me he will continue to need help there especially with how his LF defense is lacking. The issue is we have a similar player in RF who has similar offensive struggles against LHP. I love him and want him to be a fixture on this team but he needs to improve in those two areas going forward.

For a team that should be expecting themselves to contend going into next season, I’m okay with slotting him in at the back end of the rotation and letting him eat innings. If he can regain anything close to his first half this year, let that be a big time bonus. I just hope they don’t expect or rely on him to be that first half guy moving forward.
  10. The Sox have come a long way from 102 losses, but still have a long way to go. 52 Ks in three games showed just how flawed our offense is even with the bright spots. Relying on smoke and mirror for pitching only gets you so far. I hope Getz & Co see the glaring flaws and aren't resting on their laurels. But this is the White Sox organization we're talking about.

I honestly thought Droth was a star wars character for a second. Meidroth is a defensive downgrade over Colson at Short in my opinion.

They said they got it early and the prognosis is very good.

Catch up to them by hiring away the best and brightest. Pay them whatever they want but get them over here.

This is what should be next... Catching up to these teams.

Exactly, and Stone Pony carried on that tradition from Hawk.
  16. I would argue this was much more than a 7 game stretch when it comes to guys like Colson and Mune. That is severely underplaying the disaster that was their second half. Nothing about the playoffs was misrepresentative of what we saw a lot of in the rest of this season.
  17. The season to me trended like 2021. As the year progressed the team continually back tracked. The last two games of the playoffs were awful but the writing was on the wall in August in September that things were not going as planned. How nothing was done with Colson Montgomery to address the fact he was about set the all time record was concerning.

Left-handed power was a huge reason for the White Sox success. They led the AL in walks, hit 211 homers and led in runs scored and fangraphs WAR. I don't know how they replace the left-handed power if they get rid of Montgomery and/or Murakami. Sam shouldn't be in LF full time but Meidroth is ones of the best 2B in the sport and moving him to shortstop would be a mistake. I'm not expecting major changes to the offense.
  20. Goes to show the Sox still have a long ways to go as an organization.
  21. 3 points
I’m fine with him playing against LHP, but you have to upgrade RF against LHP then.
  22. Regardless of what happens now, it’s pretty obvious that the Guardians were/are a better team than the Sox. They came back and took the division from the Sox and came back and took a postseason series from the Sox down 0-2 at home.
  23. Loved seeing Ramirez be the reason they lost tonight. Also after seeing the Rays get dominated by CLE pitching, we should be less critical of our guys. The Rays have looked bad the last two nights.
  24. Suck it Ramirez and Guardians! Your crappy city and team will be irrelevant in a weeks time.
  25. Peralta was definitely the starter to acquire.

SS2k5 doesn't need me to speak for him, but he did say he hasn't seen it. He hasn't argued that generic "he sucks" comments can't be driven by any subconscious bigotry. Mention Trevor Bauer, our current president, Gay Pride nights, or a host of other subjects, and some off-center comments come right to the fore and cause a string to be shut down. Schriff is awkward and unknowledgeable. Maybe some get pickier because they won't give him the chance to grow due to his ethnicity. But I've never witnessed that type of ugliness rear it's head here over Schriff's ethnicity. Even argumentative accusations have fallen flat because they're so ridiculous.

I can't remember the last time I heard someone complain about Jackson.
  29. I don't think the Guardians threw many elite arms at us in game 3 and we still struck out 19 times.

I also thought he was able to grow when he got out from under the shadow of Hawk's enormous ego. I loved Hawk in his heyday but he didn't exactly get along well with his partners.

I think DJ was far too green when he was thrown on TV. He has improved a great deal with experience and since his move to radio. I think a lot of people like him now.

Yet his month in Chicago was bad enough to get a full write up and mention in a season ending article.

The irony of the Pham situation is everyone in the media loved it when he yelled at Schriffen, but they act like he’s the worst person ever if he gets mad at anyone else.
  36. 2 points
Every once in a while he acts like a reasonable teammate. Didn't he give up a chance for a fifth hit in a World Series game so a teammate could have an at bat? I wonder if he loves the same enough to play some independent ball or go overseas.
  37. 2 points
Of course Pham was a selfish asshole. That's who he has always been. Duh.
  38. Setting strikeout records in the postseason doesn’t make me think they are fixed.
  39. The Sox had the least DPs in all of MLB with 73 The last 3 games were terrible, but the season had some solid numbers. AL: Sox #1 in runs, this is the most important stat. Sox #1 in base on balls Sox #1 hit by pitch Sox#2 OBP Sox#3 HR Sox#3 strike out Sox#30 (in MLB) ground into least DP
  40. Honorable mention to the Tres Garcias outfield.
  41. I will also point out the wailing about the Sox not being up front about their stadium plans as if they were hiding something is kind of dishonest. Their original plans were for the 78. The State and City said no. After that their plans switched. Why is that some kind of gotcha moment? Of course their plans changed, were they just supposed to be sitting around sad? Did they expect them to come crawling back on 35th, and that is the problem? There is also the fact that when they started all of this, the guy who is going to now be paying for the new stadium wasn't in the picture. He was still chasing the Twins at that time. How were they supposed to tell everyone their plans to build a privately funded stadium on the site when it wasn't their plan, and the guy financing it wasn't in the picture? Who gets away with writing this crap? It reads like an unedited press release from an Alderman.
  42. Yeah, this is the game right here. The locals want their payoff.
  43. I wouldn't bring him back as a starter, but I have no problem spending a few million on his as a bullpen swingman.
  44. The pressure had to get to them mentally. They kept trying to hit homers. Antonacci, Vargas at times were the only players content to make contact and get on base. Mune, Braden, Meidroth, Teel kept swinging out of their shoes every fucking time.
  45. I was at Wrigley when he hit that home run...that was fun. I was going nuts and didn't see the best part....my wife said the crowd was cheering "throw it back" and the Sox fan held the home run ball up high, kissed it, and put it in his pocket
  46. It’s hard not to, but they need to change the make up of hitters on the roster. They need to find a way to not sacrifice OBP while introducing some more contact.
