Signing either of Harper or Machado would habe been both a sound baseball move AND a shoot for the moon type of move for a superstar who could build hype and sell tickets.

Neither was Alonso, Jay, Nova, Herrera, and Santana. That’s over $31 million dollars essentially wasted right there. Would’ve paid for one year of Harper at $25 million a year.

It's the Nick Madrigal conundrum. Sure it's good to put the bat on the ball but if it's a pitchers pitch and all you can do is generate a weak groundball or a lazy flyball it really isn't that much better than striking out. I don't think this will be the case with Abrams because he'll be much bigger and stronger and will be able to drive the ball with authority unlike Lil Nicky.

I knew we would get a "leak" like this about the Sox interest a few months after the dust settled on the offseason. I call BS on any legit Sox interest in Harper. JR and company never had any intention of signing Harper/Machado unless they could get a Black Friday discount on the contract. The way they slow played the whole Machado negotiations is proof of that. JR threw out a low offer bid and just waited and waited until it was topped. The Sox didn't even counter San Diego's offer. Instead they walked away from the table because they were never serious to begin with.

I don't think I've seen or read someone suggesting that either player would be the "end game" for the Sox. Where are you getting that from? What I have seen many astute posters at this site say on many occasions is that both players, at age 26 and both already All Stars, were available to our major market team, the White Sox, who with their current, astonishingly low payroll, and with no other big spenders in the competition, managed to fail to acquire either player.

You can talk all you want about Harper and his WAR numbers and productivity and I get that. But sometimes you do need to look at other things; Harper is a superstar as far as marketing and he would have changed the perception of the White Sox around the league and around the country. It was just a missed opportunity when they had money "that will be spent" to spend.

If Sheets is in fact Anthony Rendon and Tim Anderson develops into Johnny Bench it should be expected that Burdi is used as an opener and Renteria stops bunting.

It'll be great for positional versatility to have the two of them rotate between SS & C to make sure they don't get worn out.

He's been outstanding in RF from all reports, making more than one game saving play. I have no reason to discount his +3 runs in RF given to him by Fangraphs. That said his true talent level is around 4 WAR (not 6) and no he won't live up to the contract. But again who cares? Signing Harper wouldn't have prevented any other move Chicago would make, not then, not now, not in the future. The Sox are just cheap.

Does Abrams project as a catcher though?

Tired of the word games. An aggressive offer is one in which they had put together an offer that was greater than other teams. They didn't put together an aggressive offer. They put together a conservative one.

DFA Castillo and Alonso and call up Collins and Palka. What do they have to lose by doing that? It's almost too perfectly setup to justify carrying those assclowns

The MiLB game threads are like the national parks of SoxTalk. We can't litter or dump in them. Talk is about the daily MiLB activity. Madrigal went 2-4 with a SB on 5/18 so it wouldn't really make sense for 5/18 daily MiLB thread to be the place to be negative towards him.

I continue to be baffled by how quickly White Sox fans have soured on Eloy because isn't hitting like Manny Rameriez after a month into his career. I was someone who was worried about Moncada but that was after he struggled and looked awful for months. People making conclusion about Eloy right now so early in his career is ridiculous. Mark my words you will all look foolish within a year.

Personally, I’d rather they use it to extend Moncada and Robert than be tied up to 31/32 year old Machado and Harper for another 5-8 years.

It's kind of sad at the moment when Eloy comes up and you don't expect much.

I think at best you could say many were saying "well if it works out fine" but not many where saying it was a good process. My own thoughts were "if it works, great, maybe they had inside info we don't" and if it doesn't work it's the single dumbest thing this FO has done (and they got some dumb ones to choose from) and everybody associated with it should resign in shame or be fired.

I am really warming to the idea of Abrams because it makes the rest of the draft so much more exciting. That said, holding out hope of the 2% chance Rutschman is available to us.

If by when the time comes, you mean when Gavin Sheets reaches the bigs, takes over at third which then moves Moncada to 2B and Madrigal to SS then yes. When the time comes.

On pace for about 4.5 fWAR, which is better than anybody we got not named Moncada. His 30% K rate is concerning but you can see he's still found ways to contribute as he's been legit in RF and is adding some value on the bases as well. He'll never live up to his contract but there are worse things than having a 4 WAR OF. Would have fixed a big hole in RF for Chicago over the next 5-7 years.

They should DFA Alonzo and give the spot to Palka because it's a rebuild year and who cares. But they probably won't eat Yonder's contract, not yet anyways. It cannot be said enough how stupid the "friends and family" plan was. I'll say it again: it was really dumb.
