This is just laughable and you continue to say it. If you dont get a guy who is arguably the greatest right handed hitter of all time, it's not worth it. So apparently if you get Pete Alonso (who Vaughn is much better than so far) it would be a bust.4 points

What is percentage of being able to make a deal with Houston for Yordan Alvarez before tomorrow’s draft? Then we can eliminate Vaughn from the discussion at #3 for good.3 points

This is just as silly as your theory Robert should have been left in A ball for the rest of the year because he had a 23% K rate. Have you learned anything about prospect development since then? I thought it would have been shocking for you that Robert is succeeding at AA and lowered his K rate at the same time? Many prospects around the league have succeeded since Beckham when given an aggressive assignment. What happened to Beckham has absolutely nothing to do with Robert. Aggressive assignments rarely ruin prospects, prospects get exposed because they lack talent and that is something you could spend years in minor and still have the same issue at the highest level.3 points

I mean, by this philosophy - you should only be concerned with winning if you think you have a shot at the world series. "What's the point of winning the division? We're going to lose right away in the playoffs." Look, I get that this is a rebuild. However, you can't just lose 95 games every season up until your "pre-determined contending" season and be under the impression that "Welp! Suddenly we're going to be great now because it's 2020! Remember how everyone promised we'd be good in 2020? Well, here we are!". It's not just going to happen overnight. You need to see signs of growth from the team. Seeing them find ways to win is a big part of that. The rotation has been quite poor, but Cease is on his way up and Kuechel (or other outside help) is an option. Eloy and the young players should only get better. If I believed this team was as good as it was going to get in 2019. Sure, I would agree that we're going to hit some mega rough patch at some point. However, there's real concrete reasons for cautious/realistic optimism here. Wishing for .500 and some competitive baseball isn't asking for the world. I'm not one of these guys who actually thinks we're going to be in a serious wild card hunt come September. However, to suggest that we should still (one year before we all think we're going to be a serious contender) be disregarding winning/losing entirely is just silly... That mentality has to end at some point.3 points

Abreu's on pace for well over 100 RBI and people are shitting on him. Is that stat advanced enough for you?2 points

Being at the game today, you can feel the belief starting to seep in again. Fans were into it. More Sox gear being worn, specifically gear of current players rather than ones of the past. This is about to get fun. Buckle up2 points

No, it doesnt start with me. We dont need pages of arguments over whose epeen is bigger. The thread is about Cease and its tiring to have to skip over comment after comment of off topic bullshit.2 points

I think I would normally prefer Vaughn. But based of his scouting of Lucas Gioito, take whoever Parkman wants.2 points

A homestand is when they play a few series in their home ballpark. Thus the past week was a Sox homestand2 points

It's not just him. A lot of these guys are like that. I swear if you were able to take a brain scan of some of these guys at the plate, you would get "crickets". No awareness of count advantage , game situation, what's working/not working for the pitcher, etc. It's " see ball, try to hit ball".2 points

Which would make Lopez and Rodon (when he returns) the best #4 and #5 starters in the AL which means they could win a ton of games.2 points

Eloy is so bad right now, love how our cant miss prospects always struggle horribly how has his hit tool degraded so drastically2 points

Drafting Baty would absolutely lead to the most interesting draft as a whole. Imagine the depth you could add to your system with the potential savings on Baty. Baty is ranked around 15th to 17th for most publications. If you napkin math 15th slot compared to the 3rd slot value, you are saving roughly 3.3 million you can play with later. They could do a lot of damage with that money. Insulating a top heavy system would be very nice. Also there is plenty of risk there. Especially with AZ lurking with all those picks in the early going. I think I'm in favor of grabbing Vaughn still, but for sheer entertainment value I'd have fun seeing what they do after Baty.2 points

You made a baseball-focused comment that wasn’t incessantly positive about a team that hasn’t been to the playoffs in a decade. How dare you.2 points

I am a fan of alliteration but there's something a bit off in that title.2 points

I can see the qualms: undersized RH hitter who can only play 1st or DH has its attendant risks as a top 5 pick. Ideally, I'd like to see the Sox draft someone like Bishop, sign him for under slot, and use the savings to get premium prep in rounds 2-5 and/or thereafter. I doubt they'd do that, so Abrams (preferred) or Vaughn would be fine. No Bleday.2 points

So if Vaughn’s FLOOR isn’t a franchise player who had some of the best production at the plate for this team... then pass. But... you also won’t be disappointed with him as the pick. You’re on the fence in delusion land.2 points

His bat will be fine. The power is definitely there. I do agree I'm a bit concerned about the outfield.1 point

I wouldn't be shocked if Baltimore passes on Adley (guessing Witt is a lock to KC). If it happens, we take Adley...easy one. If Adley and Witt are gone, it gets interesting for me. While I like Vaughn and salivate thinking of his bat in a lineup with Robert, Moncada, Eloy, Anderson, et al, I also feel this draft features several LH power bats who might offer better value, especially if any can be signed under slot. First prize for me would be to come out of the draft with 3 top 50 prospects with at least one being a LH power hitter and one being a HS flame thrower (Espino?). It wouldn't completely surprise me if Vaughn signs for well under slot.1 point

Thank you. Your over reaction was way worse in the common decency department than his post. Why? Because I used bad words? If a stranger just randomly talked to you like that in real life, the proper response would be to tell them to "f themselves". There's nothing inappropriate about that response. I told him to "F off". I didn't look up his address, drive over and slap his mother. I'm sure he's a lovely guy. I have nothing against him. He said something kind of shitty. I said something back. If Vaughn was going to be a solid MLB player, he likely is better than most of the players drafted in the top 5. That is just the reality of the MLB draft. As I said a few days ago, its Rutschman and then Vaughn for me.1 point
