Don't forget to stay away from his real estate, United Center and any of their sponsors. If you are going to do it do it right.

1. All White Sox and Bulls games will be illegally streamed. Not paying for any cable or subscriptions in order to watch the games

 2. Attending Cubs games instead of Sox games. Instead of simply not giving Jerry my money, I'm going to spend it on the other baseball team in the city.

Borrowing this from southsider2k5's post about TLR hiring...between Kimbrel, this year's current FA debacle and now the way Lucas Giolito was treated so disrespectfully by the White Sox (just like Black Jack McDowell, although Lucas is 10X the more mature and even-keeled individual in comparison)...don't know how to communicate how disgusted Sox fans actually are with the current state of things heading in what was once supposed to be one of the greatest seasons in franchise history.  This feeling today is what we spent a decade building towards???? REALLY?  It has already been self-sabotaged in a variety of ways.  How do you go from last October to now selling LESS season tickets than you had at the beginning of the 2021 season???  If he was just carrying out Jerry Reinsdorf's orders to punish Lucas for being the team union rep and involved in MLBPA negotiations with Manfred, shame on him for doing so...that's not the type of GM that will ever lead the White Sox to the promised land, it's just not the right way to treat employees, whatever legal-ese nonsense he puts out there on social media about it not having affected the relationship one bit moving forward, yadda yadda yadda.  You should know better with all those years of education at elite universities.  Treat others how you would like to be treated, it's actually quite simple.

Scott Reifert's email address is SREIFERT@chisox.com

Brooks Boyer is bboyer@chisox.com

Hopefully people feel free to let them know what people think.

Just curious, how do you know that the team has sold less season tickets than last year? I've wondered  about  their attendance this upcoming season. With the high gas prices and  inflation going thru the roof, I would think that most people won't have as much money to spend on  entertainment/baseball games. I've  noticed that the White Sox home opener isn't soldout.

I'm not going to be emailing anyone. But it sure feels like they've gone out of their way to stifle interest and ticket sales with how they've managed the roster since last year's trading deadline.

We'll see. As I recall, most of us weren't terribly thrilled with the off-season in 04/05.

I loved the 04/05 offseason. It was the first time I could remember where I could point at the lineup, rotation, and back end of the bullpen and think that every spot could potentially be filled with a quality player. No 5th starter vacancy, no catcher who can barely hit, no 8-9 spots in the order filled by guys who were barely big leaguers. There even seemed to be an emphasis on defense, bizarre for this franchise.

So you knew Politte and Cotts were going to have career years. That Dustin Hermanson would be nails until he couldn't pitch, but the minor leaguer they would get on waivers could and would save the day. That the Contreras with the mid 5's ERA that the Yankees dumped, only to have him pitch the same with the White Sox in 2004 would become an ace. That the 4.89 ERA for Garland in 2004 was all the sign you needed to know he was a championship quality rotation piece, and that the who has any idea how old El Duque would overcome his 2004 injuries and be a solid #5.  You knew that even though he was non tendered by SF, that AJP was just what every team needed. You knew that Iguchi wasn't going to be Kaz Matsui. And knew that Jermaine Dye's cumulative -0.2 WAR for the 2002-2004 seasons was WS MVP stuff.

How is it teams aren't offering you 8 figures a year to make them champions?

That team had amazing performances out of a lot of guys who couldn't have been expected to be that good, and amazing health. Used only 6 pitchers to start games the entire season. I know it tied a record then. I don't think anyone has come close since.

Pretty sure everyone on this site wanted the Sox to sign AJP and Iguchi.  I remember the night Ben Davis got tendered a contract, a lot of us were upset because we thought it meant no AJ.

No, I also didn’t know that Jermaine Dye would get off to a terrible start, that it would take a full half season for Contreras to find his groove, that Crede’s offense wouldn’t develop until after a back injury, that Takatsu would go from being excellent to worthless, that Podsednik’s regular season power would disappear or that he’d get hurt and be unable to run after the As break, that Rowand’s would take a big step back on offense, and or that Uribe’s offense would take a major step back. I did have an inkling on Hermanson because he had been really good in the 2nd half with the Giants the year before, but I didn’t expect his back to go out, ending his career.

What I did see was a deep, well constructed roster where if one person struggled for a while, there were other ways they could contribute and there were people who could pick up the slack over a full year.

Their bench was pretty pathetic actually. Timo, Ross Gload, Pablo Ozuna, Willie Harris. The bench was such a concern, Blum was acquired and he sucked until 1 AB. . And how deep were they really on the pitching side? They were at closer where Shingo bombed, but Hermanson was great until he got hurt, and then Jenks. But they had few injuries. If this year's White Sox team was guaranteed to have 6 guys only start games, I;m pretty sure they are going to be very successful. That team was blessed, which was great for all of us. I also believe the analytics at the time had them projected a lot closer to last place than first.

If you liked the back end of that bullpen prior to the season beginning, how can you not love this year's version? This year's team is so much better on paper than that team was before the season began, it's almost a joke.

So you’re saying Kopech or Cease will be THE clear best pitcher in baseball by the last two months of the season?   Giolito=Freddy Garcia, Keuchel=Buehrle, and Garland/McCarthy/ed Duque=?

Just don’t see any conceivable way the Sox 2005 staff can ever be equaled.

Without Rodon at 100% last year, we were clearly outgunned.

It would take the best pitching coach/coaching work in decades…and that still doesn’t even begin to touch upon defense and fundamentals that are clearly lacking and rarely addressed in-season.

Again, MLB.com has the White Sox #2 in their power ranking  . . . and people are on here saying we should fire Hahn.

This is embarrassing for the poster and to a lesser degree to the Sox fan base.

And, of course Ron833, agrees. That’s all you need to know.

I’m only embarrassed we have accepted this for so long.  I could care less about a clickbait MLB.com preseason headline, and most of the ticket-buying Sox public is in agreement if they can’t even sell out the opener in nicer weather than normal.  Were things going well on the marketing and sales front, we would be getting nearly daily updates about it from Boyer and the PR team.

Sox payroll currently #7 in MLB.  Per

1. LA $275;  2. NYM $252; 3. NYY $239

4. PHI $222; 5. SD $193; 6. BOS $193

7. SOX $185

8. ATL $172; 9. $169; 10. HOU $163; 11. TOR $161

We’re simply amazing at wasting money or misallocating it/spending inefficiently, definitely happy to acknowledge that much.

Which team is 9th again?  Where are the Twins, Tigers and Indians?

17th, 20th, 23rd and the amazing Indians upgraded to 29th from last.   Average of 22.25, which is not even close to MLB average or median salary.   What does beating up on them again prove?

I don’t think ANY posters are asserting we are better today than we were in October, 2021.

Which is funny, as that’s the exact threshold I set for the first “off-season” thread.

Do you want to make that Ron "self-ban bet"?

First of all, the goal is not to win the AL Central, and they do have fewer games against a weaker Central this year, compared to the past.

The goal was a window to compete for MULTIPLE championships.

So I'll go with 93.5 games, you can keep your 109 prediction.

7.75 is the midpoint so that means you are betting on everything from 102+ victories and up, and I have everything below 101.

I'll take it, and not think twice.   You have 99 wins in 1983 and 2005.  In roughly 120 franchise years, never a 100 win season.

Really just wondering if you’ll suck on the thread

Not saying that at all, just challenging Balta's claim that he knew the 2005 White Sox had a great offseason are were ready for a championship. Gio/Lynn are the equivalent of Buehrle/Garcia coming into the season. Cease is at least what Garland was. Kopech is at least what you thought you could get out of El Duque, and Kuechels 2021 ERA is similar to Contreras' ERA in 2004. Only Balta knew what Contreras was about to become. The bullpen is much deeper projection-wise. Hermanson, Politte, Cotts....did you see their careers before 2001? Vizcaino, Marte were alright, but before the season started in 2005, on paper, this staff blows that one out of the water, as does the line up. I think they needed to do more things this year, because almost everything going right hardly ever happens, but on paper, the 2022 Opening Day White Sox destroy the on paper 2005 Opening Day White Sox.

If you can’t see how there’s a difference between saying “this team could be really good” and “this team is ready for a championship” then you’re being deliberately naive again.

I'm not being naive. If you thought the 2005 team could be really good before they played a game and thought a bullpen counting on Politte, Cotts, Vizcaino and Hermanson with their track records, was very solid,  there aren't many White Sox teams you could think didn't have a chance of being very good. They won in 2005, they deserved to win in 2005, but they got performances no one could see coming, and a few no one would ever see again out of multiple pitchers.

Not to mention a ball going through Graffinino's legs and perhaps the most improbable El Duque performance away from being a typical White Sox playoff team bowing out in the first round.
