They’re not staying at Guaranteed Rate.  Its the worst ballpark in the MLB.    The fact that its not literally crumbling is the only argument I hear in its favor.  Either this deal happens or he moves - either to somewhere like Naperville or a new metro area.

I know as a Chicago-based Sox fan which of those three options I choose.  The State of Illinois and Chicago will throw away whatever money is not spent on this project to their crony friends so I am not sure why anybody really cares.  The plan as presented will further revitalize the South Loop and a new Red Line station is always welcome.

I mean objectively this isn't true. Tropicana and the Oakland Coliseum are terrible places.

A lot of people hate Jerry so much they'd rather see the Sox fail.  They are going to complain regardless of what comes out.

Well, this was supposed to be Year 4 of the Unprecedented Financial Flexibility Championship Window...as everyone argued 2020 was one year ahead of schedule (and that squad quite fortunate to be playing almost only AL Central teams).

If we had advanced and even gotten to let's say the ALCS just once, there would be a heckuva LOT more enthusiasm than there currently is...unless JR was going to sign a pledge to spend at least $225 million on payroll in 2028-32 or something like that.

Almost nobody believes additional revenues from a new stadium will be plugged back into all those areas that this team needs to compete with the elite/modernized teams of this era.

Going the stadium route now just seems like desperation at this point...and distraction away from the product on the field.

Heck, we can't even compete with four of the poorest, smallest market teams in baseball as it is, let alone the AL East or NL West.

Angels' Stadium would definitely get some votes as well.

So the 8th oldest and arguably the 4th or 5th worst, by most subjective standards.

Jerry started with a 17 year head start over Tampa Bay. TB spends a fraction of payroll and eat the Sox' lunch each and every year because they hire competent management to run the team.

The White Sox don't need a new stadium to compete. They need new competent owners & management.

The Bulls don't need a new stadium to compete. They need new competent owners & management.

The Bears don't need a new stadium to compete. They need new competent owners & management.

Ignorant statement. Our nation has been hallowed out by the blatant kleptocracy of the past 40 years. These are literal slave jobs and all the profits goes to Bezos and his whore.

This will cost $7B-$10B over 30-40 years after counting the upfront costs, the taxes never recovered, the additional renovations, and most importantly the substantial interest paid each and every years to funds this s%*#.

$800M was spent to pay off the $40M the duplicitous and or blatantly ignorant media focuses on the past 14 years. Billions have been spent since 1988 on the Sox stadium, fixing several aspects of s%*# Jerry insisted on, and then giving the fucking worthless 10 games a year Bears a boondoggle.

Neither of these lecherous families are going anywhere. Any replacement market will be much smaller than what they would be leaving. Jerry literally called all you rubes idiots when reflecting on his “negotiations” in the 1980s, when those empty threats and these empty threats were all complete and utter bullshit.

Let the Bears and Sox move to Salt Lake City. Good luck with that.

No sh!t Sherlock. I didn’t create the f’d up system we are living in. I do know however that the 78 with a MLB stadium and a new ownership group are way more beneficial to the City of Chicago than all of the freeloading Amazon centers.

Wal-Mart and McDonald's are #1 and #2.

Amazon, Kroger and Dollar General right up there.

When did GR become a shithole?  Its better then Wrigley and nobody said it was bad three months ago.   Now the consensus is its uninhabitable?????

Soldier Field is an embarassment.

Comerica isn't much better then GR....Miller Park or whatever it is is equal except for the roof.

There is really nothing left to discuss. Jerry delivered his ultimatum in the Crains article. No new stadium at the 78 and the Sox will definitely be moving one way or the other to another state when the current deal with the state expires in 2028. The current site (35th & Shields) is a dead duck for all the reasons people have stated in this thread over the last two days. And as somebody stated here today. Chicago only has one NFL team. We have two MLB teams which means one is expendable. The Bears will be going hat in hand to Springfield soon and they are the odds on favorite to beat the Sox over the hotel tax thing. The media and Chicago sports fans won’t beat up the Beloved Bears over state financing like they are with the Sox. Sorry, but the White Sox franchise is terminally ill and waits to be reborn in a different state far far away. These few remaining seasons at the rate will be very solemn and sad but on the other hand there will also be much happiness in the move especially among several radio sport talk personalities who for quite a while now have been begging the Sox to leave like the guy on AM1000 (the former packer) who is absolutely elated.

So you have Jurko, maybe the worst sports radio personality I’ve ever heard…or the QB1 town hall on the other station.  Can one of the stations move to Nashville also?

Jurko absolutely hates the Sox and has even offered to drive one of the moving trucks down to Nashville. He’s a freaking gear head and an embarrassment to Chicago.

The so-called "hatred" is because for the vast majority of time this franchise has been around (save for the Golden Era 1951-1967) this team has had excuse after excuse after excuse as to why they can't consistently compete let alone win.

Like Jack McDowell once said the reason the Sox can't win is because they have had bad owners, bad General Managers bad managers and bad players.

Many Sox fans alive today haven't even had the pleasure of a long consistent stretch of good baseball, the last era was probably 2000-2006.

If they are angry, upset, sarcastic...can you really blame them?

Come on. Stop trying to justify being perpetually miserable. Other fanbases have put up with the bad teams too. There’s nothing special about it.

GRF is in great shape down to the blades of grass that Bossard manicures. No reason to move to a stadium without parking. There will be other alternatives in the future that will keep the White Sox in Chicago at a new stadium when that becomes necessary. The hype surrounding a simple rendering from a developer, the one Billion dollar ask, and the asinine talk on sports radio is a joke. Most of them have no idea what they are talking about.

See you on Opening day at the park. I'm out on this thread.

You people are dumber than a bag of hammers. This is how the world works.

Between 2000 and 2022, Amazon has received more than $5 billion in subsidies as part of deals with communities to build fulfillment centers. The goal is understandable: Officials want to create jobs and grow local economies.

Amazon employs over 1.5 million world wide and 43k in Illinois.  There are more than 100 companies in Chicago alone bigger than the White Sox.

What permanent jobs will be created by building the White Sox a stadium? Seems most will be transferring over from Bridgeport. What’s rich is JR now says he needs bars and restaurants. There have been blueprints to build him that in the parking lots of GRF for about 20 years. He refused until he did allow one bar and one team store.

You're the assclown bitching to expand the "fucked up system" and then calling most of Chicago who opposes this s%*# "dumber than a bag of hammers".

As if doing the right thing and telling these billionaires we want you to do well here, but if you are looking for several billion dollars in perpetual taxes, interest payments and property and sales tax diversions, we can't accommodate you.

You know, calling their bluff knowing full well they will lose substantial money relocating to an inferior much smaller city. Jerry literally said he had zero intention on moving to Tampa, It was clear who was then, and who is today "dumber than a bag of hammers".
