Bleday comes with multiple years of control too.  Still shocked that the A’s couldn’t find a buyer at his salary prior to non-tendering him.

I'd take his 2024 production... the rest... not so much.

This kind of money for Lane Thomas doesn’t bode well for anyone thinking Getz is going to sign another outfielder…

$5 million is apparently the new $2 million, which is 10 years ago's MiLB contract with an invite to spring training.

My dual questions with Bleday are "Is he really better than Tauchman?" and "Is he really better for any length of time than Braden?"  His age and years of control are irrelevant if he's used for 2 months and then Braden sends him to the bench. He's not really a cf, and he's not a consistent mlb hitter, so I can see them signing him, but imho he's not really the answer to anything other than "How do we get through the first 2 months of the season?"

Tauchman is who I expect if he can be had in the 3.5-4.5 range.  The first couple of months are the need.

I wouldn't be surprised if Tauchman is back at a figure lower than his arb number.

Jerry is even cheaper than I thought.  I thought for sure they would just bring Tauchman back via his expected low salary arb number.  Maybe they are shopping for a better option, but I tend to agree with you that he is the fallback plan.

This comes under the heading of "to be expected."

Story in the Athletic today saying that with labor unrest on the horizon. the winter meetings may be cancelled next off season.

20 years ago it would have been a blow, but now? It's pretty much a nothing, especially if you aren't a fan of teams that spend money.

Better than Tauchman?  I think he’s the better defender in a corner, especially in Mike’s current state.  Offensively is the big question, but Bleday put up a 119 wRC+ against RHP in 2023 & 2024 combined and if you believe he can return form that is better than the production gave you against righties last year (114 wRC+).  Bleday is a true platoon bat whereas Tauchman has flashed more against LHP in the past.

I think if the price is right (he was non-tendered over $2.5M), then adding him to the corner OF mix makes sense.  Would allow you to play Baldwin a bit more in the IF against RHP as well.  Anything that helps push Benintendi out of the OF is a plus to me.

I'm that way.  Only Dodger fans get to have nice things. I'm not sure if there is a good solution but how many teams draft a pitcher who becomes successful knowing that they will have to do it again because they can't afford it.

2.1 War in 2024, all the rest are neg.  Wouldn't have a prayer?

Yes, if Bleday performed well more recently rather than having only one good season in 2024, I think he would be priced out of the Sox range.  Lane Thomas just got $5.25 million guaranteed plus $1 million in incentives and he has been awful the past two seasons.

I think anyone clamoring for Bleday probably realizes this, but they figure he could be signed cheaply due to his poor 2025.  But if he performs like he did in 2024, he could be a steal.  He would also be arbitration eligible in 2027 and 2028 and wouldn’t be a free agent until 2029.
