Official 2026 MLB Draft Thread - Day 1 Picks & Discussion

Featured Replies

I think we used the bonus pool strength to push some pitchers down to round 3/4/5 and are taking guys that we know wouldn’t be able to float that far.

Wild.

I dunno about you guys but I think it's pretty sweet to be in first place and also have the first pick in the draft.

Mispronouncing the #1 overall pick's last name is HUGE cringe. Jesus f*** Manfred.

Jerry strong armed Getz into trading Gonzalez so we could get Thome. Questionable #34 pick and a questionable #41 pick. Not good.

Pretty terrible move now in hindsight.

Cole Prosek C/SS

Magnolia Heights HS, Senatobia MS

Prosek has long put up monstrous performances in tournament and showcase settings. His offensive tools are far more advanced than most of his peers and he often overmatches similarly-aged pitchers. The swing is short, repeatable and powerful to the pull-side. Short of a larger-than-average leg kick, Prosek has very few moving parts and finds a ton of barrels because of it. All Prosek has done is hit, hit and hit some more. He annihiliated Georgia pitching this spring, showcasing a surprising amount of power and feel for launch. He's growing into more impact, and there's more on the way.

He's a fringy runner with above average arm strength who could be destined for second or third base at the next level despite handling shortstop duties right now. Prosek did a great deal of catching this spring, and he caught good arms as well. Many scouts have him turned in as a catcher.

39. Cole Prosek SS / C

Ht: 6'1" | Wt: 195 | B-T: L-R

School: Magnolia Heights HS, Senatobia, Miss. Committed/Drafted: Ole Miss. Age At Draft: 19.0.

BA Grade/Risk: 55/High

Adjusted Grade: 40

Prosek is a polished pure hitter who has been one of the most consistent high-level offensive performers in the 2026 high school class. He has a strong underclass track record and raked throughout the 2025 showcase circuit. This spring with his Magnolia Heights High team, Prosek hit nearly .600 with 18 home runs. He is filled-out and strong with a 6-foot-1, 195-pound frame and simple lefthanded swing with good rhythm, balance and timing. He’s a bit of a free-swinger who likes to pull the trigger and expands the zone more than some scouts would like, but he has produced everywhere he’s been and doesn’t pair that aggression with concerning strikeout questions or contact issues. Prosek has the strength and bat speed to develop 25-homer power, and while he doesn’t have much physical projection remaining, the power he already shows gives teams confidence in his impact ability. Prosek is a bat-first prospect who faces defensive questions. He’s a below-average runner and lacks the first-step quickness and fluidity to stick at shortstop, which might lead to a move to either second or third base. Both of those are viable positions, but he’s a real catching prospect who looks comfortable enough at the position to develop there in pro ball. Prosek’s arm is above-average—he has been into the low 90s on the mound—but he doesn’t have much experience catching high-level stuff and will need many reps and development. Prosek is an Ole Miss commit and will be 19 on draft day.

Scouting Grades: Hit: 55 | Power: 55 | Speed: 40 | Field: 45 | Arm: 55

“Prosek isn’t as tooled up as fellow Mississippi prep prospects Eric Booth and Kevin Roberts Jr.,” the scouting report states, according to MLB Pipeline. “But he’s a better hitter than either of them and one of the most advanced bats in the entire high school class.”

Defense is where the concerns lie. Prosek is a below-average runner with limited lateral range, pushing his long-term home toward third base rather than the middle infield, and his work behind the plate this spring only adds development time without guaranteeing it pays off. ESPN draft analyst Kiley McDaniel still likes the bet, framing Prosek as a hitter first and a defender second.

“Prosek is an advanced hitter with 25-homer upside from the left side,” McDaniel wrote, as quoted by ESPN. “He’ll be 19 years old on draft day, a clear no-go for some teams, but the Yankees aren’t one of those teams.”

That patience with age and physical projection has become a pattern for New York. Prosek would mark the third prep player the Yankees have taken in the first round over the last four drafts, breaking from college arms only when Alabama right-hander Ben Hess came off the board instead. He also carries a bit of family pedigree. Prosek is the nephew of Milwaukee Brewers third-base coach Matt Erickson.

Did they announce Prosek as 3B or C?

edit: looks like 2b

MLB Pipeline had Prosek as a 1st rounder at 27th overall I believe, so he probably got paiddddd

None of those local names involved yet...Slightom?

Prosec to catcher seems like the call with the glut of infield talent.

Sox probably could have taken Bo Lowrance at 34 and Thome at 41. That’s what happens when you blow your load too hard over one of your employee’s kids.

You have no clue.

Leave the Reese McGuire jokes out of this thread, please.

Seems to me that Thome wasn’t going to last to 41.

I bet they think they can add power to his swing like Gonzo. Is he a real catcher? Might as well give it a shot.

Neither do you. Busting your nut early cuz of the Thome connection isn’t the play.

Just switch Thome and this guy if you are super butthurt I guess.

Starting to think the same.

Ty Head had super helium. Love this pick.

No problem with the Prosek pick. To play high potential high school pick that was ranked higher than 41.

Hopefully see a few of college arms in rounds 3-6

I have a fundamental understanding of the draft and the draft process. You clearly don't and just knee-jerk all over the place about everything.

I do too. I’m going to start using buzz words like all the cool kids — “super helium”. Fucking tool. 🤣

Happy you found your new hill!

Next pick 71 or 77?
