They said at the update in early May that he would be shut down from all baseball activities until June. His rehab stint started on about May 22, so it was pretty clear they were gambling by pushing him.

Was there another tweet besides this that said shut down til June?

The reason not to do a white flag is they will get Jimenez back and probably Robert. As well as Kopech into a more significant role.

Well, there's lots of reasons not to do that, but if taking on an overpaid and struggling outfielder from some team is too big of an investment, then they might as well.

Medicine is a practice not an exact science. The staff seemed to be handling it properly without letting him play on consecutive days and really restricting his activity. It may just be that he had a severe injury and really needs to take more time off but the team really needs him so they are pushing it.

ptatc, at what point do you think stretch, strength, and conditioning practices factor in when considering a lot of these somewhat similar leg area injuries?

Thanks.

Who would you suggest?

He's been genuinely bad this year, but I said Heyward in early May as a guy the Cubs would almost certainly move if you took on some portion of his deal, and he will probably be better the rest of the way than he's been so far. Franky he'd probably be cheaper now.

2021 OF Depth

1.Robert

2.Eloy

3.Eaton

4.Engel

5.Vaughn

6. Leury

7.Lamb

8.Goodwin

9.Gonzalez

We could quite literally be running our 3rd string OF out there as a part of the starting line up against RHP, if Leury were to play IF for some reason.

Sheets can barely play a corner OF, let alone CF.

Sox have Goodwin and Leury who could play CF. Sheets can potentially do something whereas Gonzalez...

It is the only thing that truly matters. We know that one of the primary reasons for muscle injuries (other than previous injury which is always number 1) is passive stretching. Unless there is a significant lack of range of motion, passive stretching is not needed. it also decreases power and performance. This is why you see the dynamic stretching before competition. hopefully the athletes aren't doing it in the off season.

Listening to the comments from players including Engel, in my opinion a strong possibility (just so people don't go crazy with "conclusions" again) it was the relative lack of baseball players and increased working out, that is causing many of the issues. You can train all you want but the quick start and stops at odd angles, reaching for the 1st base bag, diving for balls, sliding at weird angles really can't be duplicated in workouts.

Can Burger play LF....this team is having some run with these injuries man...

He's been playing 2B, which hypothetically frees up Leury for full time CF.  Not that I know if that's feasible or a good idea.

There are no GOOD options left internally.  You play with what you can, and hope to make it by.

There should be room to add some guys from Charlotte, with all of the players on the IL. Without Engel, and if they acquire Escobar, as rumored, here is a potential lineup versus RH pitching, which would at least have some proven veterans, to go along with the rookie, Sheets:

SS  Anderson   RH

3B  Moncada    SH

1B  Abreu          RH

LF  Lamb           LH

C   Grandal       SH

DH Escobar      SH

2B  Beckham    RH

RF  Sheets/Leury    LH/SH

CF  Goodwin     LH

Goodwin should be the next guy up, to play center, until Hamilton comes off the IL

Who has graded out as one of the worst CFers in past years...

We’re going to kill our starters with the outfield defense, and really piss off Lynn even more than in his last couple of outings with miscues behind him.
