  1. Admit it @fathom, when it got to 2 strikes you had "Give Moncada a day of rest" typed out!

  4. I assume this is sarcasm, but I'll respond anyway. People were complaining about him striking out too much (and to some extent that he wasn't walking much) when he was destroying the ball for Winston-Salem. His approach seems to have changed based on early numbers in Birmingham. He has more walks with Birmingham (5) than he had in about twice as many PA with W-S (4). His K rate is much lower (16.3% vs. 23.8%) in AA. We're obviously dealing with a small sample size, but it's a good sign that he is improving in some ways while the other numbers aren't coming as easily as they did in A ball. I understand looking at box scores everyday and getting caught up in a small slump and noticing batting average because it's visible in every box. Madrigal I get worried about, but Robert will be a good player. Maybe he has a shot to be a great one, too.

  5. Can we split Soxtalk into two different versions? Like you either enter through the “whiner/blamer/nervous guy” door or the “dudes” door. Either way, people get to interact with other similar-thinking minds. Nothing against the WBN guys at all. I get it. Just not for me

  6. And they'll still win 90 games and make the playoffs because they have a front office that actually knows what they are doing over and above spending money.

  7. Rodon's team decided on TJ shortly after his injury first came public. I had no idea it wasn't already publicly known that Rodon was going under the knife. Sox are so strange.

  8. Worst kept secret is confirmed by Hahn. He needs surgery
    2 points
  9. Hey that is a winning streak
    2 points
  10. He was down to one (next season). Hahn said today that due to his injuries the Sox will be granted a 4th option year. Sox now don’t need to add him to MLb roster until OD 2022. Actually a very significant development. A chance? Of course he has a chance. His injuries the last couple years are super unfortunate. To say you don’t care about retaining a guy like him is asinine.

  11. Actually, I meant it’s a common occurrence for Rodon. He has been injured every season for his past four seasons. He cannot he relied on. On July 9, 2016, Rodón was placed on the 15-day disabled list due to a left wrist sprain. For the 2017 season, Rodón spent time on the disabled list, only being able to start in 12 games for the White Sox. He began the 2018 season on the 60 day disabled list with a shoulder injury. On May 13, 2019, the Sox announced that Carlos Rodon (elbow) will undergo Tommy John surgery this week.

  13. WALKER BOMB. Despite his average, he has quietly been very good at W-S. Has 11 BBs and only 6 K's down there.

  14. Rodon and Jones were pretty much known to be done for the season. Adolfo is the big news. Maybe they were holding off announcing it because they had a buy 2 get 1 free surgery coupon.

  15. Yea, the Yankees just put their 17th guy on the IL today. In the case of the Sox, I'm sure Williams-Hahn will use the large number of injuries as an excuse to extend the 3-5 year rebuild to 3-8 years.

  16. All bunting does there is slightly increase your chance of tying the game, but it does not meaningfully increase your chance of winning the game bc You just put a bullet in the belly of your chance to score multiple runs. And that’s with a successful bunt. 99% of major-league players have no business trying to lay down a bunt at all. Quite frankly we should see players bunting as often as we see a straight steal of home. That’s how rare it is for the stars to align making it the best strategy available.

  17. If he has TJ I'm cutting my loses now tbh. I'm not paying him in 2020 to keep him around so we can see if maybe he could pitch when it should absolutely be go time for the team.

  19. Right, my critiques are more specifically how they setup that narrative not the story arc itself. It just needed more time to show. It would be fine as a wikipedia page, it just didn't work within thrones where there has been such dedicated character and world building.

  23. Lopez showing 97 in the 8th and only 2 BB against 6K in 7/2/3 of 2 hit 1ER, 2R ball! Moncada just huge. Jose and Beef homer. Solid defense all around for the most part. Tribe announcers sounded despondent after the game. Feels good to win!

  29. Rodon can't be seen as anything more than a 4th starter going forward, probably a 5 if they need to protect him. At this point though, it's hard to see optimism having him in the rotation at all going forward. Just have to hope that Lopez and Giolito have the type of seasons that leave the White Sox with a couple #2 or #3 type of starters, a guy like Cease comes up (and stays healthy) around mid-season and Kopech is ready to go next year. That's again a best case scenario though. Ideally, there is some veteran starter who they can add who is more than just a 1 year rental type.

  33. Cmon. It's not cut and dried. Your categories are wrong. The categories are: 1.) Anger door. Anger at all aspects Sox baseball starting with the product and performance of the front office. 2.) Go ahead and call it the dudes door but I'm not sure what it takes to be a dude. Just "whatever will be will be; I'll always love baseball and the Sox and am OK with everything going on." Is that what a dude is? I don't see how anybody can be OK with this organization. To say we're all whiners I think is inaccurate. I'd say anger and disgust, not whiner.

  34. Micker is barely a prospect at this point. Who cares about keeping him in the organization? He's nobody.

  42. FFS, the Sox traded Robertson (who had neutral value due to his salary) in a deal that netted them a top 50 prospect at the time. If the So did that with Colome, I would be doing backflips.
    1 point
  43. Colome might be one of our best tradeable resources but I just hope the team has somebody who can close out games if he 's traded. I don't want to go another year and a half without a closer. I also don't want him traded for nothing like Hahn traded Dave Robertson for nothing.

  44. This is a good question, and let me be more clear. I do think the groundwork was laid for Danaerys to become if not mad, overly violent and despotic. And what gets me isn't the overall arc its the narrative beats to describe it. For me the issue was they have a scene of her perched on the dragon above the city. The bells are ringing. She won. All that she fought for is finally hers. She then decides to burn the city down. Is she thinking "i've lost everything, they've done this to me, they hate me?" Why did in that moment, in which she made a choice, did she choose that. They don't really give us anything that says in that moment it spurred her anger. It all came prior. So if it came prior that means it was premeditated. They, I believe, tried to show this in greyworm throwing the spear into the surrendering army. If it was premeditated, we needed to have that feeling that we all know she was about to make the bad choice but didn't want her to anyway. Instead they went for more shock - she's going to make the good choice but turned bad. That's my main issue. Narratively I agree that losing the dragon in that moment would sell the turn more effectively to me. Another is a godfather-esque moment, where the camera shows her perched above the city, bells ringing, her tired and sad. Cut to greyworm giving orders to slaughter the retreating army. Cut to a group of unsullied arresting tyrion. Cut back to Dany, she is defiant/angry and takes off and starts laying flame. She planned it. While her former advisers thought she wasn't talking to anyone, she had been planning with the only person she trusts to lay waste to the city. I think ultimately that's what the show runners were trying to show, among other more effective lessons on violence will never be triumphant - and that stuff was good. But I don't think they came close to selling that in the moment. And because htey showed the moment dany made that choice, it seemed unbelievable to me, despite being someone who was bought into that arc.

  45. You had to invent a situation of various extremes to make bunting even a remotely viable option, and so in the process you have inadvertently proved the case against bunting. If an idea necessitates such an extraordinary amount of theoretical gimmickry, it is probably garbage.

  46. Developed story arcs and how we think everything should be was never the point of GoT. Ned, Robb, and Catelyn Stark would have lasted much longer if that was the case. You may have thought her character arc was finished, but it's not. We've seen signs of her ruthlessness before. Now we got to see how she really acts after several very emotional losses (Missandei, Jons lack of affection, Varys' treachery). Ruined my ass. All Time bad my ass. You can take that garbage and keep that opinion if you want, but after all is said and done I don't think many will be buying the "all time bad' and "worse than walking dead" stuff people like you are pandering.

  47. So you expected the ruler who has the mad king in her genes and who’ve you’ve seen execute people like Tarly’s family just be the happy and great ruler in the end? They have been hinting at this turn all throughout the series. Where have you been? It’s an overall message about how power corrupts and she basically became Cersei all over again. Meanwhile, the best ruler would be the guy who doesn’t want the throne and won’t get corrupted by it as a result.

  48. Yeah, well.. that's just like, your opinion, man.

  49. Not picking on you, but can we FUCKING pump the brakes on this? FFS, he's hitting .235/a measly wRC+ of 107 in Birmingham. [Yes, I know about SSS, and the ballpark factor.] He Doesn't Look Ready-Yet IMO, nothing about his numbers in AA suggest to me that he's anywhere near ready, just yet. Can we let him get back to DOMINANCE in AA before we call him up? Eloy DESTROYED AA, and before the injury, he wasn't exactly JDM at the dish in the Bigs.
