After that, the Sox schedule leading up the ASB is 18 games against awful teams (current winning percentage rank in parenthesis). 2 @ PIT (28th) 3 vs. SEA (18th) 4 vs. MIN (26th) 3 @ DET (23rd) 3 @ MIN (26th) 3 @ BAL (29th) Meanwhile Cleveland's July is 4 vs. Houston 3 @ Tampa 4 vs. KC 3 @ Oakland 3 @ Houston 4 vs. Tampa 2 vs. STL Then they come to Chicago last weekend of July. If the Sox handle their business, they should be several games up on Cleveland going into the All Star Break. The Indians will have their ace, #3 starter, catcher on the shelf. Their #5 starter has already been a disaster before Pleasac/Bieber injuries. JMO, but I get the feeling these substance bans are going to have a particular effect on Cleveland. Cleveland has the lowest payroll in baseball. They have Jose Ramirez under control for 2 years after this year through team options. They also have Eddie Rosario, Bryan Shaw, Cesar Hernandez and Roberto Perez as either free agents or guys under control in 2022 only if CLE flexes the club option. If you know anything about the Indians owner, you know that he wouldn't hate it if the Sox tore through their schedule and the Indians got swept the through the first week of July. He can then cash in on Ramirez for a significant package and sell off their other expiring contracts and potentially getting something for them instead of letting their value expire with an ~85-86 win team with very limited upside. Sox should be able to walk through the next 5 weeks and find themselves in a better position than they are today. The type of players that Sox are going to acquire are still going to be available in the July 20's and up to the deadline. Sox best move right now is 100% to hang tight and see where they are at. See what Mendick can do. Call up Fry. See if Burr/Ruiz can continue to get guys out. See if Heuer/Foster have their bad luck turn around. See how Eloy/Robert recover. See if any other key players get hurt. Sox are sitting pretty right now. Urgency would be a bad thing.

Could simply be posturing, in order not to lose too much leverage in bargaining. It also shows confidence in the guys on the roster. There is no point letting the other GM's know that you're desperate for reinforcements, not that it's any secret.

Seeing Sox players fail isn't a good thing. You aren't a real fan if you take this much joy in it.

Don't rule out Keuchel's vesting option hitting for 2023 ? I agree and good point. Seriously without extra innings you can lose your DH and still pinch hit your way through the game. Sox should be playing Collins against righties more. While Abreu has come a long way defensively at 1B and really is a source of comfort over there, putting Yaz at 1B and Abreu at DH when Collins catches against RHP is the best course for the team. I mean you nailed it in the previous post. Now that Vaughn is a competent LF that changes Eloy's role. Eloy can just focus on keeping healthy and hitting. We don't need him out there turning doubles into "inside the park HR" and hurting himself -- let him just hit.

Vaughn to TB for Brandon Lowe and Kiermaier?

No one is going to come out and publicly state that Eloy is getting demoted while he is still rehabbing. No one in the Sox organization is that dumb, well at least in upper management. But it should be really obvious that the fact that Andrew Vaughn can pay a passable LF means the Sox have options they didn't think they had 3 months ago, and those will have an effect going forward. Now whether that means Eloy goes to DH, or the Sox go with Eloy/Robert/Vaughn from left to right remains to be seen. It also could mean that Vaughn gets left, a new RF gets brought in, and again Eloy demotes to DH. But it should be really obvious that it is NOT a slam dunk that Eloy is the starting LF on Opening Day 2022.

Sox have to be getting to the point where they realize that Rutherford just ain’t worth a damn. He was below average in AA, not sure what Sox expected to see when they moved him to Charlotte.

Easily. Eloy is impressively -16 runs in about 160 games in LF. Vaughn is on pace for about -7 over 160 games. It's position adjusted so you get a ding for starting in LF but Eloy is a very bad LF. Vaughn is probably about average relative to other LF.

I dont want Frazier, because I too think that he absolutely will turn into a turd the second he's moved. Also, in watching the Will Craig Moronathon Play, Frazier didn't exactly distinguish himself as a leader in the IF, and he didn't exactly make a strong effort on that play, either. Basically, I think Frazier might be too stupid, and/or too lazy, and/or too careless to be on a contending team.

No it is because we have elite starting pitching. If our pitching was above average, we'd be tied with Cleveland at least. If we have a lot of Mendicks wouldn't that mean we are capable of finding more if we traded him? Hell, Mendick won't be on the roster when we get guys back.

He's been a below average major leaguer every year but one of his career. You cannot guarantee me that he's better than Danny Mendick so why would I trade anything that could ever even be a MLB player for him?

I like most of this and especially Mercedes losing his automatic entry into the lineup. However, Engel is our best all-around outfielder at this point and should be the everyday centerfielder IMO.

What is happening with this team is pretty amazing. The injuries could have wrecked us, but the organization keeps bringing up and bringing in players that step right in and make plays. Time to give a shit ton of credit to this staff.
