He’s starting to get noticed Perez was first put on the radar when a BA writer saw him in instructionals at 18 or so and said he could be a big league catcher (why BA writers are awesome) He has been on that long development path, but carrying with him decent contact as he moved up levels. After a 5 hit night, his average is up to .280. He’s hit more homers in Bham than he has in any other year (5). He doesnt walk much but doesnt k (10%) And his defense has always been his calling card. 24 years old. I think he’s a legit backup catcher soon.

A 23 year old hitting .207 in A ball. Seems like an odd equal for Dylan Cease +, but ok.

Moncada is a really bad 2B. He's a pretty good 3B. I know Burger would be a nice upgrade in the lineup if he could play everyday, but you don't move your most valuable position player so you can plug in a rookie who's been up for 2 weeks.

This isnt gonna go well. Unless they make a move, I dont disagree with you, but people here coddle Yoan and the analytics that say he's like the greatest 3rd baseman of all time or some garbage. I prefer them to make a move for a 2B, and leave Yoan alone, but your idea isnt that bad.

He is an all around guy, but has shown the best ability to get his tools to show in games and keeps improving as he rises. Kanny is a really difficult hitters park and especially for power. It’s also a huge jump from rookie league which is where he played at 18. He’s been batting lead off, where I’m his k% is down, his walks are up, he’s swiped 18 of 22 bags, and has 8 hrs in 50 games. At only 5’11 he doesn’t have a ton of room to grow, but he just keeps putting it together and feels like he could really put himself on the map in A+ where the park is easier.

Even before the All-Star game, I added a post on my thread about Vaughn, Burger, Sheets and Mercedes that the Sox should move Moncada to 2B to open up 3B for Jake Burger's bat. I asked if it was an insane idea, but now I think more and more that it's the right move. But during the All-Star game, when they interviewed Kris Bryant and showed how many games he'd played at 5 different positions, I thought that an All-Star player can in fact move around successfully. Yoan Moncada has played 200 games at 2B. He's plenty capable of moving over there tomorrow. Jake Burger, meanwhile, is a rookie, but he's off to a hot start after a torrid season in AAA, and looks like a much better hitter than Leury Garcia or Danny Mendick. One option was to try Burger at 2B, but that's a poor choice when Moncada can do that job much better. Anyway, the final evolution in my thoughts about this would be for Moncada to volunteer to make the move. This eliminates any pressure to do so by the club, and keeps everyone happy. If he makes the move and Burger flames out or stops hitting, he can easily move back to 3B. He can even move back on a game-by-game basis. But if Burger keeps hitting, or improves, the Sox will be a better team, and Moncada will be seen as a selfless guy who only wants the team to win.

As much as Harper or Machado would be awesome, I will say losing out on Wheeler really hurts because we finally offered market value to a relatively high end SP and got turned down. The difference between him and Keuchel would be massive right now and heading into next year.

I think Chris Getz is the one pushing Burger aggressively up the ladder, and rightly so. They’re going to fit him in next year, probably as a right fielder, until Jose declines at 1st. Sheets is the the odd man out, as much as I like him, but he can’t cover RF Jake will be the future at 1st.

I think Tim should volunteer. He’s been a bust as a catcher.

Kade McClure has been pitching well. He had a 9-run, 11-baserunner 1.1IP clunker in May that dug him a huge hole but ERA down to 4.13 on the year. More K's than innings pitched and over 3K's per walk. In his last 3 starts he has a 1.29 ERA with 15/4 K/BB over 14 innings.

I think you are overly pessimistic about the size of the payroll going forward...JR has, many times, had a top 5-7 payroll over the last 30 years...he's a smart business man and I think he sees he could have a gold mine here...Cubs look to be headed into a 5 year down cycle...Sox have a LOT of exciting young players...COVID is over...I could see 35,000 per game attendance in 2022 and TV ratings boom as the city shifts to a Sox focus. That means money will be pouring in...and right now a top 5 payroll is $185 million. That means Sox have an upside of $50 million from this year...so fitting in Rodon and Lynn sure seems possible.

If you'd like to head down to Charlotte on a nightly basis and cover the team for us instead for free, have at it man.

I think that's fair which is what is going to make this year's trade deadline/next off season so interesting. RH has said "the money will be spent". I have been a big proponent of protecting your financial assets until you really need them...so I was fine with them not burning the extra money this past off season...I just didn't believe that 2021 was the "all in" year...as you could expect growing pains from Madrigal, Robert, Vaughn, Collins, Eloy, etc. But as the team locomotive seems to be building a head of steam this is the offseason to prove it. If the Sox had signed Machado or Harper three years ago their financial flexibility is gone. But it should be there now...so let's say Rodon continues doing 2021 Rodon the rest of the season...pitches 180 innings and finished with a 6 WAR....no arm trouble. Now there is no excuse for not giving him, say, a 4 year $100 million contract...after all given the construct of the team...locking in a dominating under 30 left handed starter for four years is exactly what they need. If management lets him walk...and Lynn walk...and doesn't trade for or sign an expensive replacement...well then I'm ready to join the JR haters that he's cheap and will never pay. I just think the team will pay to keep this group going.

I agree on Keuchel. His xERA (5.77!) is in the bottom 10th percentile and his xBA (.305!!) is in bottom 2nd percentile, so the step back from last year doesnt seem like bad luck. If he hits 160 IP this year, his contract becomes a lot harder to move. If he hits 160 next year, he'll be paid $20M in 2023. If he doesn't, the team will either have to pick up his option or pay $1.5M on top of the $18M hes owed next year to terminate the deal. A $19.5M rentral that doesn't pitch 160 innings is a poor move. I don't think thats particularly close to his market value at the moment. What's particularly frustrating is that the Sox were a set of in-laws away from Zach Wheeler and his 5 WAR he has so far this year.

The Sox have 5 very capable starters and, in large measure, that has kept this team in enough games to have the record they have. You need five horsemen pulling the chariot to stay in the race. Given that, try to sign Rodon and Lynn.and otherwise fortify the pitching staff as much as possible during the off-season. Look North a few miles to see a franchise that let a few veteran pitchers go but did not have a good plan to replace them. Now Wilson Contreras set off a circular firing squad in the clubhouse but meanwhile, the blame belongs squarely on the Ricketts and their hiring of a General Manager who could not defy the Peter principle. Now I don't care about the cubs and kind of enjoy witnessing their implosion, but sometimes it is wise to pay some attention to losers in order to avoid their mistakes.

As long as Dallas doesn't get hurt or flame out the rest of this year, their will absolutely be a trade market for him. I could see atlanta, philley, detroit, yankees, toronto, and oakland being interested. Recouping a prospect or 2 would be great as well.

Sign both, but your suggested salaries for Rodon are too high. It wont take 20 million. I would definitely trade Kuechel.

I voted for signing Lynn only, based on the choices given, although I would want to sign both. The reason I passed on the Rodon option is because of the term not the money. I wouldn't give Rodon a 4 year contract. As a matter of fact, with his track record, I don't think anyone will. If they do, they'll be foolish.
