Why do I feel like I’ve heard you say this before? Oh… that’s right… it’s because you already have… about 600 times.6 points

Well, I guess someone here is even more concerned than I am, about the lack of LH hitters in the Sox organization. I'm glad to know that, and yes, I've favored the Escobar and Conforto suggestion, but that doesn't solve unloading Kimbrel. Nevertheless, I hear you and I won't disagree.3 points

You're so smart caulfield! Gotta let everybody know you figured it out!3 points

No on Segura. We need quality LH hitter at both RF and 2B spots.2 points

I’d rather spend $10M on Eduardo Escobar than trade Kimbrel for Segura. Both are very similar players, but Escobar provides much more power while Segura offer superior on-base abilities. Ultimately if I’m looking to add a 9th place hitter to this lineup, I’d rather have the guy who can run into 25 bombs than a guy who gets on base more frequently, especially if it saves me $4M in the process. And Rick specifically mentioned power as something they would need to continue adding.2 points

While it makes sense, it doesn't help the Sox save any money. $15.25M vs $16M. At that point you should have just picked up Cesar's option and saved $9M, as Cesar and Segura have put up similar numbers over the last few years, except Segura only bats righty.?2 points

Nobody would take that deal…after the last two months and playoffs. Too much downside, when combined with his erratic Cubs and Red Sox history. Whatever you would value K.Jansen at for one season, Kimbrel would be $3-5 million behind.1 point

First off, it’s nothing but love Cali. But I must say that anything we can get for Kimbrel without eating money is a huge win. If picking up his option saves us $1M and gets us a reliever like Dominguez then we should all applaud Rick Hahn. The cost we paid for Craig originally is a sunk cost and nothing we can do will make up for it. Just got to move forward with the best move that optimizes our chances to win in 2022 even if it reiterates the Kimbrel trade was a massive L.1 point

I totally understand where you're coming from and to make my point to the poster I responded to I used your return for Kimbrel as an example. Didn't do it to make you look bad. Unfortunately I think what we gave up for Kimbrel is totally relevant because once the Sox decided to pick up his option they now have to maximize his trade value because if they don't they look even worse by compounding the disaster of a trade by picking up his option and getting nothing in return. If they made the trade for Kimbrel you suggested every media outlet in the US and every voice of the fan on twitter and elsewhere will be asking "Why the fuck did they pick up his option if all they got was some nobody relief pitcher " ? Why not just decline the option and let him become a FA ? They picked up his option to maximize some value in a trade which you did not do. You asked "Are we trying to win a World Series next year or is pretending the Kimbrel trade wasn’t a disaster more important? " Good question . Probably should ask the Sox then why they picked up his option. But since they did pick it up they obviously intend to try to salvage something from that trade.1 point

Did we sign someone yet? Did we make a trade yet? Is a new CBA in place yet? Is it February yet? Is it April yet? I loath the off-season and am so afraid that this particular one is going to be PAINFULLY slow. Winter blues takes on a deeper meaning for diehard baseball fans. ?1 point

Under no circumstance should Segura push Tim or Robert out of the 1 or 2 spot. They are both significantly better hitters than Segura.1 point

For sure they picked up his option. My point is, if Segura is the best you can do, that was a very bad decision.1 point

It makes zero sense to pickup Kimbrels option then trade him for Segura, when you could have declined his option and just signed Escobar for $8-$10m and spent the difference elsewhere. My guess is that whatever conversations they've had about Kimbrel include others coming from the Sox to sweeten the return. I'd love to get McMahon but the Rockies are such an odd team, who knows if they'd even trade him. If they had half a brain they would have traded Gray, Story and others at last years trade deadline.1 point

You just can't say no to Segura if he is the highest quality player to fill a hole in order to get the best value for Kimbrel. He's a pretty good ball player.1 point

Player B is also on a one year deal at market rate and doesn't require you giving up a draft pick. I think that part is very important.1 point

The idea floated here, which has Kimbrel going to the Phillies for Segura, makes some sense. Dombrowski is prioritizing a closer, so it is probably a realistic possibility. Segura is owed $14.25 million this year, with a $17 million team option for next season. He would give the Sox a high OBP, good defensive second baseman, who could play SS, if Anderson gets injured. Not having the baggage of a long term contract would free up salary for Conforto, who would fill the hole in RF and the need for more LH power. The best part is that those two moves would still leave room to acquire a top of the rotation starter and bullpen help. If the article's claim that Mr. Reinsdorf is ready to spend money is true, this scenario would be a reasonable allocation of those additional funds..1 point

I don't see any way that it's like Semien and Conforto. I think one is possible and then they figure out the rest. Payroll might be between $190 and $200 million honestly. I'm just not sure how it's not with one big addition. I'm as surprised as everyone else, trust me.1 point

Remember, only his value with the White Sox counts right?1 point

I know he is just coming back but he is playing like a guy who is going to be potential trade bait for a big man. Ayo has essentially taken over his spot. He may not score the rate White can, but he has a higher basketball I.Q.1 point

Vaughn is worth much more than 1 or 2 years of Nola. If they aren’t getting a cheap and controllable SP for Vaughn, I hope they’d just shell out the cash in free agency.1 point

And Hahn has found his OD Starting Second Baseman, perhaps also an OF. Jerry: “$600,000, a LH hitter, such a deal. Much better than that bum from Cleveland. Sign Frazier as well, he can play the corners, all on the Yankees dime. What a country! Hey, can we begin trading our international bonus money again? Isn’t this great!” https://www.mlb.com/whitesox/video/rougned-odor-homers-14-on-a-fly-ball-to-right-center-field-luke-voit-scor1 point

Kimbrel for Segura is as obvious of a trade as it gets, if the Phillies are willing to deal from their big league roster.1 point

I had Dominguez coming back. Why is that generous? Great arm but dude only has three years of control left, is coming off injury, hasn’t seen all his velocity return, missed all of 2020, and performed poorly in the minors last year. If I’m the Phillies, I’d seriously consider giving up him for Kimbrel if the alternative was giving Iglesias a 4 or 5 year deal for massive dollars (and I say this is a massive Iglesias fan). Given the volatility of relievers, there is real value in short-term commitments.1 point
