If Leury is used IN THE CORRECT WAY, like every other freaking player that has so far failed during this contention window, he can be very useful.3 points

There isn't a team in the United States that would take on Leury's contract.3 points

Burger has all of 252 plate appearances in the bigs. The sample size is far too small to call him the best bench anything. He could be their best bench bat, but that’s not exactly a ringing endorsement when Sheets, Leury, Seby, and or Billy Hamilton are your bench mates. Burger and Sheets would be quite redundant on the same bench, and as much as I’m over the Gavin Sheets experience, his lefty stick at least plays vs RHP, which they face far more often. Neither provide adequate defense at their natural positions and neither have any real versatility. It’s one or the other and I’d rather choose neither.2 points

Well, he’s a career 75 wRC+ player and been over 90 since 2017, so chances are that he’s closer to that than 39 in 2023. He still sucks, but could still be useful as 26th man.2 points

Believe they've said late April - early May. The fact that they haven't 60 day IL'd him and had an opportunity to I think is telling of his expected timeline.2 points

Didn't notice any difference from previous polls myself. Basically I told them to stop verbally bashing the fan base and to put winning over fiscal responsibility in an industry that makes 10 billion a year.2 points

Yeah - I locked them - news is out - no suspension. Don't need a bunch of back and forth on that. Clevinger's focus should be all on baseball now.2 points

According to what...exactly? Burger can mash LHP, something most of this roster can already do. But he cannot play defense. He is borderline unplayable at 3B defensively, and has never really played 1B in his life and has no other defensive utility. He will continue to struggle against RHP, which, coupled with awful defense, gives him no role on this roster unless one Moncada, AV or Eloy are hurt. I like Jake and all, and think he's great depth to store in AAA. But he's pretty useless on this roster if its healthy.2 points

Let's assume this is the starting group C - Grandal SW 1B - Vaughn R 2B - Andrus R SS - Anderson R 3B - Moncada SW LF - Benitendi L CF - Robert R RF - Colas L DH - Jimenez That leaves 4 openings. C - Zavala is the only lock Who are the other 3, and why? 1. Utility. Someone who can back up all the infield and OF spots. Most likely Garcia. 2. OF depth. Jimenez can play LF or RF, as could Sheets in a pinch. But that leaves CF. Can Colas cover there? Seems like someone is needed here. 3. Platoon value? Sheets offers value against righties, but not paired with Colas. And Vaughn isn't likely to sit often. Burger offers value against lefties if Colas sits and Jimenez plays RF. 4. Defense and speed. Hamilton can cover CF, and offers speed, but who does he run for? Grandal? Vaughn? My guess is Zavala, Garcia, Sheets mostly because they've played the most, with the 4th player a defensive outfielder. But I'm not confident beyond Zavala. Who do you have?1 point

I hoped he received a $225 million extension the day he hit that walkoff in the FoD game into that cornfield. Favorite player other than Tatis Jr., peak Puig in 2013-15 and Roberto Clemente. OBP and concentration issues in the field will always fuel the fire for detractors...and not hitting 20-25 homers but instead focusing on batting average. He could legitimately put up 25/25 seasons the next 2-3 years...and do it quite easily.1 point

He was the kindest player at spring training the day I was there too. Why try and pick a fight and not appreciate Tim is one of the better hitters and shortstops to play and brings a ton of energy. I hope he kills it this year and we are talking about Tim for MVP.1 point

We have a new manager and it’s a new season. Let’s see real change and get back on the right trajectory.1 point

These guys are gonna play, we've got too many injury prone guys not to pencil in Moncada for 30 missed games, eloy at least that many, tim around the same and so on and on and on. So whoever makes it after camp breaks might not even really matter at times during the season. Might be better to let Jake get regular AB in AAA until the inevitable Moncada DL stint. Who knows, honestly the bottom of the roster looks like absolute dog s%*# to me but I'm willing to give it a shot on whatever we come out of spring with. Hope springs eternal.1 point

I don't envision a lot of lineups if this roster is health in which this team is playing multiple bench players in one game resulting in "alot of lineups with .600-type OPS hitters stacked". If the lineup isn't healthy, Sheets and Burger will be on the rsoter. So its kind of a moot point. I don't expect Leury and Marisnick/Billy to be garnering multiple starts a week. We've been over this like a dozen times, but if Colas is on the roster and everyone else is healthy, there is virtually no at bats for Sheets. The Sox are going to live and die in 2023 by their core of Robert, TA, Eloy, Yoan, AV, and Benintendi being in the lineup most days.1 point

I wouldn't want to inflict such pain on long suffering Expos fans. Can we send him to Houston, Boston, or the Northside??1 point

Leury may be replacement-level, but I'm not convinced the Sox have anyone in the organization who can replace him right now. Romy is the obvious candidate, but what happens if he comes out and puts up a .508 OPS against RHP, like he did just last year? If Romy can't cut it, then you can try to replicate Leury-level production with a combination of like Alberto and Marisnick, but then you're using two players to try to replace what one guy should be able to do. There's just no point in getting rid of Leury until (a) you know he can be replaced, or (b) he's so bad that he's unplayable. I don't think we're at (b) yet.1 point

And I will be removing any continued discussion of it here - it is over. Thread was closed - you want to talk about Clevinger - focus should be on baseball (and that goes both ways). Period.1 point

that's a lie from manfred. they could have fixed it years ago. they enjoyed making money off the extra innings and mlb.tv packages, as well as making the national packages worth more due to blackout restrictions.1 point

harold baines had his number retired 2 weeks after he was traded in the middle of a rebuild. and played 12 more years in the league. lay off the crack. my comment was about an anti union owner. not whatever your brain drooping was.1 point

Pat Bev isn’t good anymore. If they got a real point guard - sure this team could have made a push. But they didn’t and they remain flawed and poorly built.1 point

Zavala, Garcia (unfortunately), Sheets, and either Hamilton or Marisnick1 point

Sure. At 4 there would still be thy impact player. I don't think they'll get very many picks for it there. If they want to get the haul many people want they would need to trade with a team much further down.1 point

Zavala, Sheets, Burger and Romy (or Leury if the Sox don't have the gumption to DFA him). I like home runs and clutch hitting even more than I value good defense.1 point

1. Username checks out. 2. This is how it’s supposed to happen. An investigation was held, I accept the results. I thought Clevenger was a dickhead well before the Sox signed him, and still hold that opinion. But there are plenty of guys that hold that title in sports and the world. Time for everyone to move on.1 point

Alberto has the advantage due to his time spent with Grifol in KC...wouldn't hurt to give Romy another 200-300 at bats at all.1 point

How soon do we start losing the non-roster veterans? I am assuming some as early as opening day. Just wondering how much depth they can provide, in case of injury. Also, I cannot root against Billy to make the team. I just cannot do it.1 point

I loved that Sox team and hated the A’s. They were such d-bags. The opening scene where the stadium was shown pre-white paint makes me wonder who thought painting it was a good idea. The nostalgic me wishes they never tore it down, but I also remember “seeing” quite a few games there with an obstructed view thanks to my Perfect Attendance tickets. I don’t know that there’s anything they could have done to remedy that. CF bleachers we’re the place to be.1 point

I'm one of the biggest Jose supporters ever, but dude, that was your locker room. Shut the f*** up. It wasn't Tony's locker room, it wasn't TA's or Liam's. It was Jose Abreu, everyone tied the Latin pipeline of talent to him and him taking them to the next level. Unfortunately Jose wasn't the leader we thought he was.1 point
-
Shouldn't Abreu as one of the "leaders" (as many of you call him), take responsibility for the animosity and "weren't a family" in the clubhouse? Isn't that kind of the "leaders" job?1 point

He's a grinder working to do whatever the team asks if him, sacrificing himself and his reputation in the process and never complaining. He was here before Tony and after Tony. So far every manager has found a lot of at bats for him.1 point
-
Woof, Leury beter not be getting 2 starts per week. So we're making Andrew Vaugh a part-time player to give Gavin Sheets at bats. Woof. Yes, I realize Sheets has been better again RHP to this point, but their upsides are not even close.1 point

If nothing else Grifol seems more willing to push back against what I'd consider FO driven narratives -- at least in public. Wonder if come July the team is 40-48 and he starts calling out the guy that built his roster. That would be fun.1 point
