There's no reason to trade Moncada; they need a 3B and they'd either eat 75% of the salary anyway, or throw in something good to entice a team to take that salary. Grandal isn't a member of the White Sox. How does he get into the conversation? I lean toward picking up Anderson's option. I know he isn't worth that cost, but I'd prefer neither Andrus again nor Montgomery rushed. And that seems to be the Anderson alternative. That said, one thing that they need to do, and Hahn went short-shrift on during the rebuild, was some scrapheap work, and perhaps they can find an acceptable SS, at least one who can defend, via the heap.

Anderson has never appeared to be the clubhouse cancer that this board so desperately wants him to be. That's probably the reason.

As has been stated when the "face of the franchise" seems to get into numerous confrontations with umpires. gets suspended multiple times, flips off fans, is almost always injured, has off field issues that appear to impact his on field performance...yea...that's a problem.

I just listened to the Soxtalk podcast, and the topic was "You be the GM". So fans were supposed to send in their ideas for how to fix the White Sox for next season, who they would sign, who they would, trade, whatever. Then Garfien and Ryan McGuffey would discuss each set of ideas and say what they thought was good or not so good or what was just plan unrealistic. So, on this pod cast, as is often the case with these two on other pod casts, they trashed Moncada and Eloy, and threw in Grandal for also. I get that completely and want those three gone, gone, gone next year. With that said, I don't begin to understand why they never have Tim Anderson in that group as a problem. I see him as a bigger problem then those other three combined. My one wish for spring training next year, more than any other, is for TA to not be on the Sox roster. I just don't get what Garfien and McGuffey are seeing in TA that I don't see. Even when they had the pod cast only on TA, about a month or so ago; they seemed to accept every excuse and quote Tim said, even offering their own excuses for Tim's play and behavior. To me, often what I heard only made me want him gone even more. I just don't understand why they are so tough on Moncada and Eloy, but so forgiving of TA. At the end of the pod cast, McGuffy went on a big explanation about yes, the Sox need to add this and that, but how none of that will matter if the Sox don't get rid of the problem players. He said a quote like the Sox, "need to clean the water" and that they won't start to get better until they get rid of the "muck". I just don't see how those two don't see Anderson as the most mucked up problem in the clubhouse.

For how much people on this board complain about local media not asking the Sox tough questions, we sure do get plenty of threads about opinions from the Water Carry podcast.

They’re just covering their butts in case the Sox pick up his option. If he’s back, then at least they can be around him and not be on record saying they wanted him gone. My starting point of this offseason is that Moncada, Jimenez, and Anderson cannot be in spring training with the Sox.

It's been 25 days since the last White Sox loss. That hasn't happened since April 2023.

His lack of zip on the ball is so evident on outside throws. Rookies make mistakes and he made a few tonight. But his lack of velocity on outside throws really gives him a slim margin of error. I'm glad they tried to showcase his ability to throw deep a few times, but that really isn't his biggest weakness.

Yeah - he left some throws out there and you can tell arm strength isn’t there. His deep ball was everywhere. Penalties were bad too. Chargers crushed them. Hopefully Fields is healthy and ready to rock starting next week.

I have been critical in the past about Garfien being to close to the organization and JR. But in the last few years he hasn't been afraid to call out the incompetence and the dysfunction. And I have to give him credit for that.

There are definitely meatball moments still, but they've been significantly less "puppies and rainbows" on the Sox for a while, McGuffey especially.

Everyone is gonna be fast tracked until they decide the window is closed. They can’t even fathom the concept of developing for sustained competitiveness, let alone execute it.

October 29, 1956 - Al Lopez replaced Marty Marion as field manager. Marion who did a fine job in replacing Paul Richards had missed an important board meeting to be with his family at an event. It was all the excuse the Sox needed to let him go despite third place finishes and winning records in 1955 and 1956. “The Senor” though would prove to be a most able replacement. Lopez had nine straight winning seasons with the club and copped the 1959 American League pennant. Many say he was the finest manager in team history. He holds the franchise record for the highest winning percentage for any manager who lasted at least five full seasons at .562 Lopez eventually won 840 games over nine full seasons and two partial ones with the Sox. October 29, 2020 – In a move that stunned the baseball world and angered many White Sox fans, Hall of Famer Tony LaRussa was announced as the new manager signing a multi-year contract. LaRussa began his career with the Sox from 1979 to 1986 posting four winning seasons and taking the 1983 Western Division championship. But he hadn’t managed since retiring at the end of the 2011 season with the Cardinals and his age was a concern to many given the global pandemic. LaRussa though was at the forefront of the analytical revolution in baseball, was the first manager to set up a bullpen to bridge things to a ‘closer,’ and won World Series titles in Oakland and St. Louis. Since 2011 he worked in the front offices for Arizona, Boston and the Angels. With the White Sox feeling they had moved into serious contention for championships with a young, talented team, LaRussa appeared to be, in their minds, the man to take them to the next level. At 76 he became the third oldest person to manage a Major League team behind “Connie” Mack and Jack McKeon. And under his guidance the Sox despite crippling injuries won 93 games and the Central Division title in the 2021 season before losing to the Astros in the A.L.D.S. The 2022 season though was another story as he was heavily criticized for some bizarre managerial decisions, unusual line up combinations and his awkward rambling press conferences. It culminated with him having to leave the club before the game on August 30 due to health concerns and retiring for good.

I’m one of those who think that Al Lopez was the best Sox manager in the club’s history, he made one mistake in his time with the Sox and that was not giving Billy Pierce a start in the 1959 World Series.

The whole Bagent thing has really got me watching a lot of podcasts now on youtube. This is the best one yet. I had heard him speak a few times before but this one impressed me the most. He's smart and self motivated, never gets ahead of himself , works on the task at hand. Very impressive. Everything you would want in a young athlete or a person for that matter.

so we are an organization that went from one of the Worst GMs in baseball and one of the worst in team history to a guy who clearly wasn’t qualified for the job and was hired without a competitive interview because he couldn’t possibly look like he deserves the job if he had to interview… And average would be a problem? Do you realize what a monstrous upgrade average front office performance would be?

That doesn’t mean it wasn’t best for him to be down there. I’m certain he wants to grow into a star player who signs a nine figure contract at some point in his career, and I bet you he’d happily trade another year of buses to get there, because right now he’s on track to be a journeyman that runs out of opportunities in his early 30s. Now, that’s not totally fair, because we don’t know that he actually did need another year, or what, if anything, could actually be done with him to help, because we’re not professionals. But again, there’s a sharp contrast between what we can see the Sox are choosing to do and what every other team is doing, and it’s part of a consistent pattern of disappointment, so I think it’s fair to assume the odds are better than a coin flip that there was a more productive path that existed. My entire adult life, the only thing I’ve ever heard any White Sox coach say about a developing hitter is something along the lines of “we want him to be more aggressive/more aggressive in the zone,” and that sure doesn’t seem like something Vaughn would have needed, but strangely does seem like the way he’s changed since arriving. Other teams talk about swing changes to generate lift and pitch selection training, which, for gifted contact hitters with good eyes and discipline that aren’t getting to enough of their raw power (like Baughn), sounds like exactly what is needed. But that takes time, and requires a willingness to accept bumps on the road. And there never any indication that something like that was even on the table from the Sox. Despite the doublespeak about sustainable winning, their treatment of Vaughn reads like a case study of “push all in to win now” at the clear enormous expense of even the near future. Sacrifice Vaughn’s upside to get a passable bat in the OF right now, as if it was the only way to get such a bat. It’s straight from the Mark Teahen-era Sox playbook, and it’s at the center of what made them failures the whole time — unfailingly choosing the most expensive/least efficient way to get something they need. Vaughn may yet figure out how to tap into his upside, but he’s going to have to do it on his own. And both him and the fans deserve better than that.

Burger may fall off a bit, but predicting he will be on the Windy City Thunderbolts seems a bit dramatic at this point.

the 113 OPS+, which is right in line with his career number. Plus, this guy isn't the typical 27 year old. He missed 3 full seasons. A 3.0 career WAR in about a year's worth of playing screams MLB player to me.

After not playing for basically three years you expected linear improvement right away? Screaming that out while ignoring the Sox paid $75 million for Benintendi's 2022 season while surrounded by similar lineups in NY to what AJ Pollock enjoyed with the 2021 Dodgers (also ideal platoon matchups, comparatively)....shows that they completely overlooked AB's 2019/20/21 seasons as well as Pollock's defensive deficiencies. (Wouldn't want Rick Hahn picking my mutual funds, either. Last year's results are not EVER indicative of future performance for Sox FAs.) Or maybe they were overly impressed by KC's winning atmosphere and reputation?

He hustled. Great with fans. Resilient/perseverant. Strong family man. Figured out ways to overcome Sox development issues. Improved considerably on defense over time with practice. Attempted to improve his hitting with the help of his own tech as well as his wife's interventions. Not associated with club's nightlife/attitude issues. Always cheered on his teammates. Actually seemed to have fun playing the game and appreciated the opportunities and responsibilities that came with it. Also wouldn't have been one of those players grumbling about Sox fest or offseason PR events/hospital visits/events with children involved. Unselfish.

Of the fans I know that liked Burger, they liked him more because he hustled all the time....a trait seriously lacking in most players on this team.

I get your point, but this is a guy who has always had issues with his command. Came back from injury, worse command, which is understandable, but from what most have been saying, diminished stuff. It's fine to trade for a guy like this, but to give up a guy who was really popular in the clubhouse, and with fans, and could hit 40 homers?

This was a terrible trade the second it was made and it is getting worse and worse with each passing day. Jake Burger is a legit major league baseball player. Jake Eder is likely to be selling insurance in two or three years. Sox got played here big time.
