I was going to start a new topic "The Bears" but I didn't want to get buried by those on here who hate new threads. ... So here is my take. The firing of the Bears coach is ridiculous. So it makes a whole city (those who follow sports) feel better. Big deal. The Bears' problems have little to do with coaching. They have to do with talent and talent evaluation. I'm sure the no name stiffs who coach the Bears including Matt Eberflus are the same as most of the no name coaches in the league. They are OK. Let's face it. No coaches have a good command on clock management. They all choke on that part of the game. So at least judge the Bears ho-hummers on other areas that matter a bit. Clock management? Name a coach who knows what he's doing in that regard on any level. They all fail at it including Eberneezer. So the Bears continue the parade of coaches since Ditka. Big deal. There are no coaches out there who are going to cure what ails the Bears. This time maybe they should hire some young young young guy like Arizona State's coach or go the oppo way and hire some 70 year old timer like Belichick. Hiring some no name coordinator of the Lions or some team will mean NOTHING. Matt Eberflus or 5 other no names cannot cure what ails the Bears. ... But everybody feels better in starting over after yesterday's turkey day debacle. Great. Still won't win a Super Bowl. There's only one Andy Reid. Might as well try Belichick this time. But the Bears would never do that. They'd never hire somebody who actually has won before somewhere.

I tend to think, if you're dealing with contracts at that dollar amount, the player is probably more concerned with where he can get consistent playing time and have an opportunity to play himself into a multi-year contract. I don't imagine he's thinking super hard about what the fans think about the owner or whatever. If you're a professional baseball player and your career is up in the air, are you going to want to play for a team that will give you 500 at bats or you would rather sit on the bench in Cleveland? what's a 'quality org' in that circumstance? would you rather be the janitor at a 'quality org' or in a position you enjoy doing at the 30th best org, if the money is the same?

Okay, "headliner" is inaccurate. A significant piece. If Philadelphia is pushing Bohm, then Sox fans are going to take a hard, critical look at Bohm. No, you should check your math. Had they gone 7-6 against the White Sox, they would have finished .500. A normal average white Sox team and most of the AL Central is more average. If the White Sox went 12-1 against them, they would have finished 75-87.

The Royals were 86-76 last year. They were 12-1 against the White Sox. Without their games against the White Sox, they were 74-75. So they were definitely under .500 without the White Sox. Had the White Sox not been the worst team in recent baseball history, the Royals are a .500 team. While I want to admire them for the fact that they actually got better by spending in FA, and .500 is a big jump over their 2023 team, it is unavoidable that they were an average team that looked a lot better because one of their opponents was among the worst teams in baseball history.

Of course we trade Edman and Kopech to the Dodgers for straight trash and they end up being major pieces to a World Series team.

I would take as many Austin Hays-type crap shoots as I could find. One of the plus things about being lousy is that there is plenty of room for taking chances.

At a minimum you have to have two sets of PLAYS (plural) in place. If there is a sack, then this. If the play works, then this. NO one had a fucking clue what to do after the sack. It took them 20 seconds to get a play in. My high school can do crunch time better than this. And when you see your team is a disaster, call a time out AND THEN set the next two plays, complete with the important sets of IF and THENs.

I just don’t like taking him out of the booth, where he seems comfortable and one of the only things really working. Just don’t love changing that dynamic and adding more things to his plate, but whatever. Not the end of the world.

I agree. It's silly talk to say Getz asking prices are too high.Thats just buying into the rich or opposing side narrative that top position prospects are gold. It may not be deliberate collusion but all of a sudden top 50 prospects weren't being moved recently . All we hear is it's crazy talk to think well get anyone in the top 20. Getz is already severely limited by the "screw you JR " anti-tanking new draft rules. It's no coincidence that teams started prospect hugging shortly after the league crippled cheap owners/ poor teams ability to get good returns in trades for star players with limited control by limiting their ability to draft where they should according to record. Baseball already was the hardest sport to project how a prospect will develop. High picks give you a better shot but it's no panacea. There is no reason to try to screw bad teams. The bad teams like the Sox constantly screw themselves over because they cheap out on scouting and player development. It didn't help the Sox that much getting Moncada, Jimenez, Kopech, Giolito, Lopez, Cease ,Collins, Vaughn, Madrigal , Crochet and Robert.Top guys bust more often than they turn into stars for multiple years. Everyone gets enamored with the upside but the downside is a bust. It's no wonder a 3 WAR guy like Wilyer Abreu looks attractive when our last rebuild couldn't produce a single guy worth 15 WAR over a 5 year period or even a 12 WAR over a 4 year period. You can check me on this. Im just guessing. The league may pretend they want parity but what they really want is a Dodgers - Yankees World Series every year. Revenue sharing is just a way to pretend to even things up a little bit. It does nothing to help the Sox . Screwed on all sides to dig out of this mess created by JR . Getz doesn't stand a chance. He's doing what he can to hire the right people and playing the long game so maybe any prospects stand a better chance of succeeding than the last bunch did but JR will die eventually and more chaos will ensue.

These are the types of losses you want when the season is down the drain anyhow. I'd actually be mad about this game had they won the games against Washington and Green Bay, but the team is going nowhere this year. Caleb has proven that he's pretty good when the game comes down to the final drive. That's where this year is much different than 2022, where Fields lost a lot of games late. It's not Caleb's fault the head coach keeps fucking things up. Get him fired and get better draft position for next year.

Hell they didn't act like 2024 was a rebuild year until they got on pace for the worst season in the history of baseball.

I do think Getz is attempting to bring good baseball men into the organization. But if a team is going to truly contend, it can't stay in the rebuild mode forever. And that is the problem. JR doesn't want to spend on free agents and there is nothing Getz can do about that. I don't know what the plans are for this off season, but this team, as of now, of on its way to another awful season.

Yes, it was BAMTech, which was sold by the MLB to Disney. Each team received $50 million. But that was still chump change compared to what MLB teams get annually through revenue sharing — ~$200+ million. Just owning a team pays for itself and earns money. There’s reasons why teams maintain such low payrolls and it wasn’t always to tank for draft picks.

The real plot twist will be TLR getting hired as head coach.
