Why? They have Rojas for a year. You can afford to play Montgomery at SS and see if he can play while the team is bad.6 points

Do you think he (or anyone) would volunteer to go on a podcast that would try and destroy him?5 points

I get why most are done with AV. But its not like Sox have any other great options between 1B/DH after Vargas. May as well give him one more shot to turn into a tradeable asset. $5.85M is nothing in baseball terms. If he sucks again, you simply non-tender for 2026 and move along.4 points

Andrew Vaughn was a consensus top 5 draft pick. Anything else is BS hindsight.4 points

we're 4th after trading everyone. any other team could do the same. the trick is to draft and develope good players. that way you don't go 41-121. my january cynicism is starting to boil up to the top.4 points

I listened to the whole podcast. I'm not sure what to think because I am annoyed every time I listen to Getz talk. I appreciate McGuffy and Kaplan for having him there and asking certain questions, However the questioning did not really drill down to the level that I needed to hear. There was too much positive vibes about Getz and what he's doing with his process from McGuffy and Kaplan. By GOD we just lost a 121 games. This man was responsible for putting the white sox fans through that. There was a conversation about the have's (Dodgers, Yankees, others) and the have nots. No one reminded Getz that we live in Chicago, the 3rd largest market in the country when he started to make the White Sox seam like a small market team in his responses. WE LOST 121 GAMES AND HAD TO LIVE THROUGH THAT!!! I don't want to hear fluff questions for Getz. He has done nothing to earn any good graces yet. That includes the trades he's made, the FA's he signed. I understand he's overhauling the organization by bringing in outside people (am I suppose to applaud him for that?) because as of now there is no proof any of that has changed anything. The interview was too much a pro Getz interview. He does not deserve that leeway right now. Just my 2 cents....3 points

Side note absolutely hilarious that this life advice given to me in this thread basically comes down to trusting JR and this front office to do the right thing. Don’t worry buddies, haven’t seen this before. LOL. LMAO, even3 points

You know, removing the Goose Island statue in 2022 can honestly be considered the first open act of JR “Killing the golden goose” literally and figuratively3 points

Without their farm system, and those players being in place at the MLB level, we are still YEARS behind them even in a best case scenario.3 points

Results being second priority sure explains a lot.3 points

Andrew Vaughn is not a league average 1b offensively though.3 points

You do know you don't have to hold on to hurt feelings for years just because someone disagreed with you on the internet, right?3 points

It's only 1yr/$5.8M. If he has another below avg season he's an easy non-tender next year and they upgrade the position when they will actually have some money to spend. If he goes out and has an above avg season he's an easy tender and possible trade candidate. This is a no brainer move.3 points

Hostetler & Shirley were in our amateur scouting department before Hahn became GM. Paddy was hired by KW before Hahn became GM. Haber’s first baseball role was with the Sox 12 years ago. You’re right on Getz…but that’s basically it.2 points

Jesus, we act like every baseball player's a quivering mass of broken psyche jello, and one bad game will ruin him for life. He had a back injury this last year which affected his mobility. He also had a personal issue that he played through.2 points

Was he using any of these can't fail "processes" when he ran the Sox minor league system? Players seemed as unprepared as ever to my eye. I bought into the Pedro Grifol processes when he was hired, and was made a fool. I'm not buying what I hear in a softball interview.2 points

I have only listened to half of it so far, and I usually try to be more opitmistic than other posters on this forum, and I generally defend Getz (What could/ can he do with Jerry stuff?). But what I've heard so far is just general cooperate level "stay the course" and "it's gonna take time" stuff. We've heard it all before FROM HIM over and over. I know he wouldn't go on a podcast to get destroyed, but I really felt both questioners were really throwing him softball questions.2 points

I believe them because they told me so, but forget about the same business lying to me for the last 40 years, but now it's different is a way better outlook on life.2 points

I get that we are trying to see the better side of everything right now because everything else is actual s%*#, but Hahn said the same stuff in 2016.2 points

He didn't sidestep the question at all. He said he values continuity, Bannister and Katz are kind of a package deal and that he thinks MLB has it wrong with the high turnover of hitting coaches. He did the opposite of sidestepping.2 points

You should always plays the service time game with anyone other than fringe guys, IMO. Will never change my position on that.2 points

I think it is possible. To be fair to AV, he was dealt a tough hand. No minor league development due to covid. Getting thrown into a position he hadn't played since little league at the big league level. Dealing with failure he'd never dealt with at the big league level. Everything that has transpired with the Sox since mid-22. Couldn't be easy. I do think he has more in there. He's probably never going to reach his draft day projections, and his lack of athleticism and defensive ability really makes him a bat only player, but I do think he's a big leaguer. He's definitely a guy that had the Sox non-tendered him, I wouldn't be shocked at to have seen him go elsewhere and turn into .280/.335/.440 type hitter. Could still happen after 2026 too, I suppose. Would sure be nice to see him have a really nice first half and move him with a 1.5 seasons of control.2 points
-
There are many different points here that you are blending together. We have lots of 3B & 2B options that are ready or near ready. I think it’s totally fair to be concerned with Rojas stealing playing time from them in Y24. Kim is a different issue completely as he requires a long-term deal and his addition forces Colson off SS before we even give him a legit shot there. I think most people would be happy to gain an extra year of control with Schultz & Smith, so not really sure what that has to do with the other points.2 points
-
Was considering going until I saw no Rojas Perez or Slater appearances... Uribe's probably pissed they already dumped his son. Would also be nice to see Crede or Rowand, but maybe they're not getting around very well physically after getting beaten up so much over their careers...heck, would take Carl Everett at this point.2 points

A league average hitter at 1B is a bust for a top 5 pick.2 points
-
I think that is a couple of levels too far. Andrew Vaughn in a lowest tier MLB starting 1B. Yes other teams also have really bad 1Bs, but that doesn't mean Andrew Vaughn isn't in that bucket. He is the type of 1B today that you are looking to upgrade if you have him. When he was drafted, the expectation that he would carry on that Paul Konerko/Jose Abreu level of solid upper tier production. When you draft a guy #3, the expectation is that they will turn into a 10+ year starter at the major league level, with all star/star potential. You don't draft a guy #3 with the expectation that they are a bottom tier starter. If they do, they have busted. It doesn't mean they couldn't have never made it, and been a bust in that aspect, but the expectations for career are much higher at #3 are much higher than they are even for #30, let alone #300.2 points

I think it’s all relative to expectations, draft position, etc. If Vaughn was a fourth round pick, he clearly wouldn’t be a bust. But he was a consensus top 5 pick and seen as a polished hitter who would be a difference maker offensively. When the results are league average production after that, that’s bust territory IMO.2 points

I was going to say, league average is a lower bar than offense at exclusively 1B.2 points

I am all for pointing and laughing at the O's. I got a lot of joy out of watching them go 0-5 in the past 2 postseasons. And they still don't have the pitching to compete in the playoffs. But let's also take a step back and realize how good of a position player foundation they have. They may not have a top tier farm anymore, but when you have Gunnar Henderson, and Jackson Holliday, and Jordan Westberg, and Adley Rutschman, and Cody Mayo, and Heston Kjerstad, and Colton Cowser - do you really need an elite farm system? That team is going to be good for a long time.2 points

It will be interesting if a new manager affects some of these guys through better usage,2 points

Except you don't look for your 1B to be "league average". Their primary job is offense. You look for "league average" hitters at non-offensive positions. Your 1B is there to create runs. Of 1B's last year with 400 or more PAs, his 97 RC+ ranked 29th of 36 hitters. Factor in his below average 1B defense, he drops to 31st best at 1B. I mean I guess you can say they picked better than 2nd round pick Gavin Sheets, who is dead last, right?2 points

People applauding this too are amazing... Everyone signs players to 100 million now but for the Sox. We should be signing 200+ million dollar deals by now.2 points
-
A "bust" doesn't put up league average production. Andrew Vaughn is a league average hitter. Yes, he needed to be a superstar, being drafted at #3. Calling him a complete bust is silly.2 points

You'd honestly have to be a complete dunce to think there's any justification for the level of spending taking place right now. The Sox have already proven once they won't save and splurge later.2 points

💯 nailed it. For so many years, the Braves, Dodgers, Ray's, Astros have claimed a top 10 farm while continously winning at the Big League level. The Sox are the Pirates.2 points

Until JR is gone, the last part will never happen. It is simply against JR's "philosophy" since he feels players make to much money the way it is. That stance hasn't changed sine he realized the price of winning after the 1983 season. The Belle signing was an outlier simply because he wanted to "pay back" the other owners for agreeing to settle the 94-95 labor dispute without a salary cap (which as recently as the last lockout he was sounding off about needing one). They continue to waste millions of dollars on stiffs, retreads, has-been's and injury prone guys but simply refuse to pay the going rate for superstar talent.2 points

I will go to the grave believing if Andrew Vaughn was drafted and developed by a better organization, he's a totally different, and better MLB hitter than he is today. What a waste.2 points

https://www.mlb.com/news/front-office-executives-poll-for-farm-systems-2025 Those who voted for the Sox on the underrated and best at acquiring prospects must not be frequenting SoxTalk. Loved Orioles for prospect hugging...Dodgers Guardians and Padres with accolades, most wanted to keep Red Sox as best system overall even after Keel/Montgomery trade.1 point
