Once mediocrity is accepted, It's the best you are going to get.4 points

I mean all three guys have some pretty important red flags and none of them are THAT highly ranked. Worst case isn't even the only case that ends up bad for the Sox. -There is a very realistic chance Zavala never makes the majors. He had major struggles in his stops at A+. His K rates and contact rates are scary. -Iriarte has never shown he can consistently be a guy who gets under a walk every other inning, and that is with MUCH higher chase rates seen in the minors. It's not hard to see him generating a lot of walks, followed by a lot of hard contact by guys zone hitting for when they get 3-1 and know a fastball is coming so he doesn't give up yet another walk. -Even if Thorpe has a ridiculous MLB change up, he still has to get to the counts to throw it. His margin for error is going to be much less than guys who have three major league pitches, instead of one. Everything depends on his change being perfect, so MLB hitters can't sit on something else other then his change. His control with his other pitchers also has to be picture perfect, because if it isn't he is getting pounded with the rest of his stuff. All three guys need to take pretty major steps to fix some pretty sizable flaws in their games. Sure they have ceiling with some major plus tools, but they don't get to use those tools if they can't fix their flaws.3 points

In this scenario the idea that we must all declare absolute fealty to this organization otherwise we are not to be considered fans of the organization, and at the same time considering yourself to be better than those who question what’s happening or have dissatisfaction with the results, and also telling those people they must just be happy with the team they are provided I would consider that a bootlicker, yes. Definitions vary but in Trays time here all he has done has defended Reinsdorf at pretty much every turn while acting like fans playing the one card they actually have to play, financial support, is somehow beyond the pale for him and makes anyone less of a fan to him. Well, if that’s how he feels about me and others who aren’t happy with the ownership, I guess he is just gonna have to deal with it3 points

I’m just tired of having the same “debate” over and over again, and hand up, that’s on me more than anyone. But when I look at the state this city is in right now across the sports landscape, seeing an owner like Jerry have actual “fans” come to his defense with “Ugh, no matter what he does, you guys will always be unhappy with him!” Just boggles the mind. And I suppose in some ways, the statement is correct. No matter what Jerry does with his two teams, fans DO find a way to be upset…. Since end of the 2014-15 season… Bulls have 330-428 record (.435) 25th in NBA. Sox 666-851 record (.439). 2nd worst in MLB ahead of only the Marlins at .435. Jerry’s teams are a combined 996-1279 But the fans are the assholes.3 points

Given that the Sox have basically two good OFs in the entire organization (Robert and the prospect they got in the Crochet trade) , I would have liked to keep DeLoach around. I guess they are going these "proven" 30+ year olds with no power instead of the DeLoachs. Looking over the 40 man, still a ton of what appears to be available space on the pitching side. What was the point of trading for Boozer? He's not a flip candidate - they won't get a prospect any better than what they gave to get him (See the Banks trade).2 points
-
He literally said "If Thorpe has a ridiculous changeup". You said "Thorpe has one of the best pitches ever". The term "if" is a conjunction meaning 'in the event that' or 'on condition that.'2 points
-
Not that any of this really matters, but it begs the question, why didn't they just DFA DeLoach the first time? Minds were changed based on what?2 points

Kelvin Banks (OT) - Round 1 Omarion Hampton (RB) - Round 2 Tyleik Williams (DT) - Round 2 I really hope they don't go RB in Round 2. There is just too big of a need with both trenches, it should be OL-DL-OL.2 points

I'm still ok with what he got for Cease as were many others. The fans expectations were out of whack with what he was worth. The problems was his 1st decent year was 2021 3 bWar, then 2nd in Cy Young 6.4 bWar , followed by 2023s 2.4 Unfortunately he had his worst season in 3 years on the worst team he had pitched for. Also unfortunately the trade keeps looking worse when prospects get hurt or regress and your MLB pitcher rebounds to about middle ground between his 2022 and 2023. So it looks worse.Guys with better track records get more and selling high gets more. Sox were selling low despite peripherals and the market reflected that. And I think there was some loss of velocity also. And I do not blindly stick up for Getz. I think he was in a terrible position, just as the fans are in a terrible position. I can blame the puppet master a lot more than I can blame the puppets. Again unfortunately JR gets to hide while Getz is at the forefront of every move that is made making him the biggest puppet target even though his decisions are always based on the guidelines set by the JR Hated the Fedde trade .You could say Fedde had a better year than Cease bWar 5.6 to Cease 4.2 , little bit better ERA. But probably not many people would say Fedde is more valuable , but he had more value than Getz got for him. Do you want to know the biggest mistake Getz made so far ? The move he didn't make. He should've made trading Robert his top priority before he traded Cease. But once again after that 5 WAR season fans thought he had finally arrived. No way the Sox could get equal value for him. I'd like to see that thread again. But if he had got traded most probably would've thought he didn't get enough. People here referred to him as a superstar. I think I spoke up once and said he wasn't a superstar.Superstars have track records of above average play multiple years in a row. You cannot get greedy and ignore that he was consistently injured up until that year. Trading Robert could've been the best opportunity to get the position prospects the Sox desperately needed. It also might've created a little momentum towards trading Cease. I'll critique myself the same way I critique others. I don't know what kind of offers the Sox got for Robert that off season. But I did know that holding onto Robert was a way bigger risk than holding onto Cease . It sucks when you have to trade a guy at peak value for fans but it sucks worse now that they have to hope that a guy like him doesn't end up the same as Moncada. He'll never get anywhere near that value he had after 2023. He'll need a Crochetian type miracle and some major OF injuries among contenders to recover value.1 point

Eliminated before the season even started. Sure makes you want to spend your hard-earned dollar on Jerry’s product, don’t it? 🤣1 point

I think the potential LT might be in question. If you don't grade one out - than Bears might be able to move back 7-9 picks, still get a strong interior prospect and pick up an extra 2nd rounder. But overall I align on your principals and I might argue they could go 2 free agents - one being a big time guy, the other potentially an upgrade at center (which won't break the bank and just might be worth doing - especially seeing this is supposedly NOT a strong center draft).1 point

Apparently they are worried that Doncic is fat, lazy, and possibly an alcoholic, which means he may not age well and is a potential risky investment when at a super max cost. They also didn’t really negotiate with anyone else and allowed the Lakers GM to drive the cost down by embracing their fears. Seems like the Mavs’ GM simply overthought things and made what is likely a really bad trade.1 point

Seriously, having an extra third could really help, allows them to get a lot more flexible (obviously have to hit on the pick, which is easier said then done)1 point

Exactly my point. Not every target is going to hit obviously, but this dude could barely crack a blackhole in RF and now is gone a season later. No idea what they saw in him while with Seattle’s AAA team that changed so suddenly.1 point

Believe I already posted it in this thread a few pages back, but I'll say it again because I really thought it was spot on. The RB position should be considered a "gasoline" position. They're an accelerant. The OL and scheme are the wood and matches. Gasoline doesn't start a campfire, but it can turn a simple campfire into an absolute blaze. The Bears are still short a few logs. Go build the campfire first, then go get your gasoline.1 point

Luka Doncic is distracting everyone so they can sneak DeLoach through waivers.1 point

Truth be told, The Sox team with this group of players is actually being overpaid as a group. They are probably worth 57.2 million. And that's in baseball dollars. In uber driver money it's about $75.1 point

The Sox were so mediocre the last few decades, I went any weeknight I wanted on the free company tickets. Hit the Billy Goat downtown for a few before getting on the train. Catch a brat at the park. Train home. The three or four Sox hats and WS Champs t-shirts are probably the most money that Reinsdorf has gotten from me in the last 40 years.1 point

I can't imagine myself going to more than 1 game this year: Opening Day. I usually go for free with my uncle. Won't spend a single penny inside the park though. Take the Metra, meetup with my buddy's big tailgate they do every year and eat and drink outside and then just sober up during the game.1 point

No problem with anyone who chooses to not wear a Sox hat or go to games or switch allegiance to the Cubs. That said, comments like "I am never giving another dime to Reinsdorf " (just as one example) go beyond that. I am not surprised by the animosity, vindictiveness and even an apparent need for retribution by some, even in a sports setting. It is something that has unfortunately become more common in our society.1 point

I miss caring about the Bulls. The whole LaVine era was just nothing. Straight up purgatory, and probably the most boring stretch I can remember for a Chicago sports team in a long time.1 point

So I was in my car when the espn alert went through. I glanced at the text on my watch and was like oh s%*# - Bulls are getting Fox…alright let’s see what they are trying to do…. Than I turned on radio and realized I was wrong. I hate AK and everything about what they have done but at least this is starting to reset things. The pick they got off their own is worthless since they are likely going to talk but I guess this prevents them from messing up that and not even having a pick. Got to think Vuc ends up in Golden State or Lakers. What will be real interesting is what happens with White, Giddey, Ayo and Ball. Can they find ways to get some more picks or package them for a more intriguing long term candidate? Can they flip the guys they got? Maybe Collin’s or Huerter for more assets?1 point

The lack of a long-term plan is just astounding. I have more hope in the White Sox righting the ship than I do the Bulls. Michael Reinsdorf is just an absolute boob and this front office is an absolute joke.1 point

But that’s just it. And what MANY of us have tried to explain to you. You THINK you’re smarter than everyone here, but we all have eyes and brains, and have come to conclusion that’s simply not the case. See, in your post defending Jerry, you listed out signings like Adam Dunn, Andrew Benintendi, Grandal, Kimbrel…there is a pretty common theme there, which I’m sure even you could spot. Grandal was probably the best one, and he produced a total of 2.5 WAR over 4 years. 73 million for 2.5 WAR. Now, Jerry isn’t the one acquiring the players. But he is responsible for employing the FO who have the job of player acquisition, and has a nasty little habit with both his teams of keeping executives FAR past their expiration dates. But you used the term “willful misrepresentation” in your last post, which again seems fitting given this notion that fans will be upset at Jerry for anything, even if he signs a player to a $100 million dollar contract. Again, this narrative the fan is in the wrong, not Jerry & the White Sox. A franchise that set the MLB record in futility in 2024 and currently, Vegas odds have the Sox O/U set at 51 wins for 2025, by far the lowest win total in the league. Oh, and 2023 saw them post a robust 61-101 record. If the Vegas odds come true, from 2023-2025, the White Sox will go 153-333. And I really don’t think anyone needs a history lesson on the last 15 years of White Sox baseball. So maybe fans do have a little more to gripe about with the owner of the White Sox than just contract value. But I’m just guessing.1 point

This entire post is a long winded justification to you acting like you are better than everyone else and get to gatekeep every one else who doesn't. With all due respect, I don't know why you think this is your job, but lecturing people after the worst season in the history of baseball is the ultimate in entitlement.1 point
