Personally, I think he has taken so few steps forward, who knows whose fault that is, that he was no longer a top 30 guy. As a reliever who can’t throw strikes, he was trending towards Org/NP level for me.

If the Mariners want to overpay for Vargas let them. He's probably JAG. Decent starter, nothing more. I'm not convinced he can play a MLB 3B and that's a problem.

As we hit the mid-point of the season, I thought it would be fun for the various contributors of this sub to share their updated Top 20 prospect lists. For this exercise, let’s exclude any players who have reached rookie eligibility thresholds. Vargas is just showing that he’s just a guy. He’ll need to be replaced eventually anyways. This team needs to hit on above average players and stars, otherwise they will continue to be “mired in mediocrity.”

It's owners vs owners vs players though. There's no way the majority of the owners are going to be willing to miss games when they'll never have a salary cap anyway. Union leadership is out of touch with the rank and file. The players always cave in general but the rank and file can't afford to miss paychecks. There will likely be a prolongued stoppage again but I think they play 162.

If someone wants to give value for Vargas, the Sox should do it.

He's prone to getting hit because he expands the zone down and in. Everyone tries to keep him from extending his arms and he goes fishing on a ton of breaking balls waaay out of the zone. He'll get hit less if he stops swinging at those cuz they'll have to change their approach to him. Also, James has alluded to the fact that the balls in Charlotte may be dusty, so getting him outta there would probably help.

I would certainly entertain trading him for a quality OF prospect if the Mariners have one

I would dump Noda regardless, and just pull a fan out of the stands to play in his place. Would get the same results.

The only attention they get in media is tabloid stuff. Well there is the trade frenzy but that is always above removing in hopes of someday getting better. For the north side it's about acquiring to get better. There are buyer and there are cellars.

Baldwin is supposed to be able to play everywhere, but I guess he isn’t very strong defensively at any one position. But at this point, I’d sacrifice defense for offense. Rojas is brutal with the bat.

Thanks for starting this thread. I've been wanting to say this. With winning this series, the Sox have made me the happiest that they have in a long time. Back in spring training, the Sox were playing the Giants and there must have only been a Giants feed for me to listen to: so I was listening to the Giants announcers and during the game, these Giants announcers had such a total disdain, contempt for the White Sox players and organization, it was just so obvious and insulting. It's hard for me to remember a solid example of what they were saying, but it was pretty much stuff like, "Well, with an at-bat like that you can see how they had the worst offense in baseball last year." Or stuff like, "They lost 121 last year and with these kinds of plays on defense, you can see how." Or maybe, "The set the record for losses last year and they've done nothing to improve that record for this year" (That topic came up a lot.). It just struck me as incredible that these announcers kept saying stuff like that, and what made me even more angry, is that the Sox, at that time when I tuned in, had a lineup loaded with minor league guys, not their regular guys. So, as soon as I turned it off, I went and looked on the schedule and was glad to see that the Sox were playing the Giants, and I was immediately looking forward to the series. Every time I'd be watching the Sox and a Giants' score would come up, I was looking forward to this series. Well, thank your White Sox for coming through for me and winning this series. As yesterday's game was winding down in the 9th with the Giants' last couple at bats in the 9th, I turned on the Giants radio feed just so I hear those same announcers. It was somewhat satisfying to hear them (they couldn't give the Sox any credit) complain about bad at-bats (ironically) and what a tough week it's been and that the Giants need to turn it around before their next series. So, thank your again for starting this thread so I could point out a little bit of pride for me and our White Sox fans, and one more time complement the team for winning this series against a good team, just a team not as good as their radio announcers would like to think.

This. If you consistently fail in trades, the problem is you.

I feel that, other side of me however sees we need 30+ WAR to even start to think about a division title and if someone wants to give us 150 cents on the dollar for an average regular we should probably consider it.

27-28 maybe we are singing a different tune. Guessing we are selling off vets this time next year for prospects as well. It’ll be nice when we can stop recycling the prospect convo though I agree.

I do wanna admit those things, r/whitesox is a good sub, and the Sox do have potential for greatness this decade. There's a guy named sandman in the reddit sub who's a wealth of info, plus each game thread automatically posts game highlights. as far as the Palehose go, once all our prospects develop, watch out. So, I'll stick to my prediction that we will be Team of the Decade, like Giants were for 2010s, or NYY for 2000s and 90s. See you here in 2029 to see if I was right. *hits bookmark*

He can't play a passable SS so he's useless. If Colson comes up and Baldwin you have three guys that can all play it better.

Here's the thing. TODAY I would much rather give Baldwin a shot over Colson, simply because of how up and down Montgomery has been. Baldwin feels like he has nothing else left for AAA, while Montgomery still has some consistency and fielding issues for sure. That could change, but I would absolutely suffer through a mistake ridden and learning Baldwin over Capra, for sure.

But the stats do mean something. The park doesn't make a hitter barrel more balls, or have a better contact percentage in or out of the zone. Maybe there's some data that shows pitchers adjusting negatively to the dimensions, but I don't know about that.

Agreed. No reason for Capra or Rojas to be on the roster. Probably not Noda either, other than the need for another 1B. Baldwin should definitely be up but I can see the rationale in holding Colson down since he has probably finally regained some confidence and the team not wanting to mess with that by throwing him at much more challenging MLB pitching immediately.

Some of those guys I'd still rather see over some of the guys at the MLB level though. In the next month, we should see some space open up. I only suggested calling up Colson (as I did like a week before this hot streak) as an opportunity to show him some faith and a chance to reset his stats. At the time, I said that it's probably discouraging stepping into the batter's box seeing your AVG start with a 1 and then getting inside your head.

Nice to see a late inning rally. Teel is looking better each game. Meidroth is turning out to be a steal considering he was essentially the third piece in the Crochet trade. Vasil locking it down with a 5-out save was awesome. Despite the record, this team is getting to be fun to watch.
