Here are the guys we should be trading: Robert + cash (weak side platoon CF at worst w/ significant upside) Tauchman (productive corner OF on the cheap => 129 wRC+) Slater (weak side platoon corner OF => 137 wRC+ vs. LHP) Taylor (solid bench piece / 4th OF for depth purposes) Houser (middle of the rotation SP who can soak up innings) Wilson (decent middle reliever with team control) Try to package some of these guys together in hopes of getting the best couple of prospects you can possibly get. I’d certainly look to dump Civale, Altavilla, Alexander, Benintendi (with cash), & Rojas but just not sure any value would be there. I’d certainly explore offers on Sosa, Cannon, and especially Martin, but my guess is they need to be holds for another year before having any meaningful value.3 points

That would be cool if the league saw Houser like that. He kind of feels like Fedde to me, where the league just doesn't trust him, and sure don't want to reward the Sox for their good luck.3 points

Don't forget to add Steve Stone to the great curve ball list, it got him a Cy Young. Sandy Koufax's last year was 1966 so I never saw him pitch but he had an awesome curve ball. Pete Rose said he had no chance against Koufax, "how in the hell do you that curve ball?3 points

Chances are he won't have as good of a year next year , he'll be 35 and he won't have the extra year of control . He'll be worth even less . He gets moved . I don't know how many of these competitive balance teams who always get a s%*# load of draft picks are going to make the playoffs but those are teams you need to trade with sometimes .They're quicker to unload guys to make room for new draftees. The Sox don't get CB picks or extra draft money because they are a big market team in a 2 team city which sort of makes them a smaller market team but without all the advantages that , Cleveland, Minnesota, St Louis , Tampa Bay, Pittsburgh , Colorado etc get. Then you throw in the lottery and anti tanking rules and it hurts the big market teams more than the small market teams . So JR is cutting his teams youth supply in all kinds of different ways when you throw in not competing for the most promising players because you can say you're morally opposed to the way business is done with handshake deals for 13 to 15 year olds before they're eligible to be signed. So your talent pool is corrupted from the start. Not keeping pace with the league with R & D puts you even farther behind. Or hiring the better scouts or staying out of the Japanese or Korean markets. They act so Mom andPop even now emphasizing local talent. It honestly makes me think it's just another way to save travel money. Everybody knows warm weather areas produce the most talented players because more kids play baseball year round. Can we seriously think of any more reasons that makes it harder to judge and develop talent if the supply chain is smaller with less quantity and quality talent evaluators and rusty old tools ( ( figuratively speaking) ? Ay caramba !2 points

But can you tell me who has done a better job between Getz and David Stearns?2 points

I know and I’m responding to a comment where if the roster was built for both to start at C/DH and having a rando third catcher who basically has no value other than he might catch in an emergency. Though I’d rather just risk losing the DH in a meaningless year (same goes with next year).2 points

You make a great point. For me personally unlike in 1981 and 1994 I won't be that upset if the season in 2027 is wiped out. The Sox still won't be worth a damn. I can always watch stuff out of my library if I need a baseball fix. If the owners are going to die on that hill of demanding a salary cap it's going to be a long wait until baseball returns.2 points
-
Yeah, just alternate them at C and DH and just have some random older veteran wanting to hang on to his career that can be a mentor or Blake Sabol (a guy who has also played 1B and OF) as the "in case of injury" guy.2 points
-
I'd probably just keep them both for now. I don't see any rush to move them we have plenty of AB for both them if we would just configure the roster properly in another march towards 110+ losses.2 points

This is all so embarrassing and all because of the worst owner in baseball, does this jerk have any shame at all.2 points

Here's another one to track: Most losses in 2 seasons: Mets 231 1962-63 Most losses in 3 seasons: Mets 340 1962-64 Sox with 222 in 24/25. They set the 2 season record with 111 losses this season. They set the 3 season mark with 119.2 points

My guess to who is moved (or at least who should be): Luis Robert Jr OF (fucked up not trading him sooner but time to move on and include cash) Mike Tauchman (cheap and has another year of control but 34 years old, he's one of their better trade chips so just deal him and worry about who plays of the OF next year in the offseason) Adrian Houser SP (cheap, free agent after this year) Austin Slater (good numbers against lefties again) OF Aaron Civale SP (has to pitch well his next 2 starts) Steven Wilson RP (has 2 more years of control, close the book on the Cease deal) Korey Lee (buried on the depth chart a bit and has interest) Dan Altavilla (has pitched well, now sell) And then I'm going to guess a surprise trade like Sosa, Martin, Burke, Cannon (I feel like those last 3 have similar floors to where they are mid-rotation starters at best long-term and honestly just feel like filler right now). Feel like there's enough guys in AAA (guys who deserve a look and other fodder) that can come up and hold down the fort.2 points

Maybe if I had a shred of hope of the Sox being good again in the next 3 or 4 years (we already have a 6 page thread about that), I'd actually share in this "ominous" feeling. As it stands, I'm not going to lose sleep over it because IMO, my favorite team has been unwatchable for going on 3 years now with no end in sight by 2027.2 points

The very first post in this thread had trade expectations for Josh Rojas, who has been somewhere around the 8th worst player in ALL of baseball. If you throw chum in the water, expect sharks.2 points

Dan Plesac was on the Score this morning and he is really big on Houser being a difference maker for a contending team looking for pitching. Dan mentioned that he has seen Houser pitch twice in person and is impressed. Another name came up that the Cubs would be interested in, Zac Gallen. I heard Zac on I think it was Bar Stool, and he was saying that he didn't think with him being a fly ball pitcher he would be a good fit for Wrigley.2 points

f*** it, package Robert, Houser, a reliever, Lee and cash to the Padres since they seem to have interest in Robert and Lee and can probably pitching help.2 points

After getting screwed with ten cause of stupid competitive balance rules that screw the Sox - I really hope something works in our favor vs ending up with the worse two year record in franchise history and getting a #10 and #7 pick or whatever it is. Terrible rules - penalize teams in that regard because they are over payroll thresholds or something else - as a Sox fan we get none of the luxuries of a big market team and none of the benefits of a small market team. Hope Ishibia changes that.2 points

I'm sure a lot of it is simply the losing. That makes it hard to stay sharp. I had a really good paying job that I quit once because I hated it there. Losing 80% of the time probably makes many guys hate coming to the park every day. Say what you want about personal pride and professionalism. Losing affects evey one differently.1 point

7th as was said already. Exactly SS2K. Large market clubs can only have a top 6 pick every other year. Small market clubs can’t 3 years in a row. But since the 3 worst teams are guaranteed to pick no later than 7-9, it pushes the ineligible teams to 10 and beyond.1 point

Good points but there was a huge turning point when after the Sox owned the city in 1983, the Cubs in 1984 a year after the Elia Rant came out of nowhere and won the division while the Sox floundered in 1984, I truly believe that’s when the area started to become Cub town, the Tribune promoting Wrigley along with Harry Caray and his Cub Fan Bud Man ads helped the cause. I’m not sure what the true numbers are but Cub fans vs. Sox fans in the Metro area has to be at least 66% for Cubs to 33% for the Sox. Wrigley Field being basically a National landmark also is a huge deal as anyone who visits Chicago has to take in game at Wrigley. We have lived in Florida for 32 years and I have made a lot of friends especially on the golf course, I have only met 1 guy who has made it to a Sox game and it was to Comiskey back in 1963. Not one friend while visiting Chicago has been to the new Sox Park. I must disagree with you on one point, the lopping off of those 8 (not 6) rows in the upper deck was a great move along with all the other improvements to Sox Park. My last game before we moved to Florida was the night they clinched the division against Seattle in 1993, last minute we decided to go to the game and being a sellout we managed to get 2 seats in last row 29 of the upper deck, as you mentioned it was like watching a game from the moon, we were afraid to stand up and stayed in our seats the whole game not wanting to walk down and back up those steep 29 rows. We have been back to Chicago around 7 times (not since 2015) and have seen 4 games at the remodeled version and it is quite a transformation from the original monstrosity and a fine place to see a game. We have made quite a few trips to St. Pete to see the Sox play the Rays.1 point

It seems like there are 2 camps here: 1 that is furious at our incompetence, and the other who just doesn't care. Finds it funny, even. I'm in the latter. I have no problem with a 3rd straight 100L season, with 2026 possibly being 4 in a row. It's funny to see how Chuck and Guillen deal with it, and also the rest of the staff. Will Shriff become more obnoxious. Will Steve become more fed up with him. What kind of giveaways and red herrings will the club do to ease the pain. Will "Sell the Team" chants return loud and clear. Do yall remember when we botched a popup against the angels when we had 120 losses so far. The Sell the Team chants were as loud as the Paulie chants from the good days. It was epic, loved it. People rag on JR, but let's take a closer look at his ownership. Where have the Sox ranked when it comes to payroll as a percentage of revenue. Has he really been as cheap as the Pirates owner. Is the ROI worth it. Was the albert belle contract worth it. The White Flag Trade was, it gave us the 2000 div title. What decisions do you feel were dumb, and which were gold. I'll list what I feel were asinine by JR, IMO: 1)Sportsvision. Now, hindsight is 20/20, so in a way, I do understand why he thought that renting a clunky box to put on your TV, then paying a monthly fee, was the wave of the future. It's easy to say he was dumb after the fact, but imagine being in that board room when the presentation was made. Remember, the 80s were all about being futuristic. I could see how they were convinced this was a new, cool, slick, hip way to watch sports, and the cash would flow in. There was so much failed new tech in the 80s, but everyone was addicted to futurism and making life more hi tech by any means, even if we got weird things like the Olympics Triplecast. But hey, gotta try something. 2)Not continuing the 7th inning stretch after Harry left. Harry doesn't own the song, it started all in Comiskey, why not have Drysdale, Hawk, Nancy or even Honda sing it instead. Gary Thorne and Wimpy too. The tradition should have continued rather than have the cubs usurp it as if it was their idea. It wasn't. 3)Ditching the 83 uniforms for the bland crap from 87-90. How did yall react to that nonsense. The 83s went perfect with the old park, then all of a sudden, we're a little league team. He might as well have renamed us the Wildcats, the new unis were so generic, I was furious at the time. Its only redemption is its association with Thiggy. Other than that, crap. 4)Hiring Hawk as GM, plus marketing the season around that. "The Hawk wants you!". For someone who also rooted for the flubs at the time, marketing this odd old southerner as the face of the franchise did not entice me to make the full switch. It was kind of cringe tbh. 5)Putting the upperdeck at new Comiskey on the literal moon. He did this to add more suites, do those suites ever even get sold. Then he lopped off 6 rows from it, which made matters worse. What a colossal waste of time and funds, mercy. The cash should have been spent on talent, not lopping off seats you'll eventually need. Ugh. 6)Making New Comisk, "the ballmall", as blue as a tidy bowl cleaner. Blue is not our color, this was a dumb decision that fans did not like. I'll never forget the underwhelming reaction to the new park on opening day. I was in school, and the teacher put on the game because everyone wanted to see what the new yard looked like. Then when he did, the reaction was "Oh. Ok.". Like a Simpsons ep where a big reveal turns out to be nothing, then Nelson punches who he thinks is to blame. 7)Not having the outfield face the Sears Tower, plus redoing both bullpens. Unwise, imo. So, imo, he needs to reap what he sowed. The city was there for the taking, the flubs were hopeless, Harry's skills were diminishing, we had the coolest logo in sports, plus a new park with the potential to catapult us to #1. and instead we stayed at #2. Despite beating the north to the title, and winning it in a much better way. We are half as popular as the flubs, which is very hard to admit. Painful, even. Bad choices catch up with you.1 point
