  1. They say this guy may be the Japanese Nick Madrigal.
  2. I think Lackey would be cheaper than that. Possibly under $9 million depending on when he's expected to go. He's also the only non Wasserman option so that's a factor. If they took Lackey though, it's clearly as the cut option to spend money elsewhere in the draft and taking him 1.1 and then moving him off catcher would be crazy. He's the most athletic catcher in the draft in a long time and just because he could move, doesn't mean he should. I think calling Roch just solid is missing things though. Him being a plus-plus defensive shortstop is a major factor in the profile. He has pretty significant offensive upside with a floor of definite big leaguer and he's the most likely guy of the group to reach his ceiling in my opinion. The Sox will factor in the NCAA tourney, private workouts, player interviews and make a decision. I think they'll lean college because of their core and the inherit pressure that an ownership change could bring basically at any time. It could be Emerson but I just don't get the sense that they want to wait for him to develop. I think taking a catcher at 1.1 would be really risky and they'll ultimately take Cholowsky but I do think it'll end up being between those two players now. I didn't think this a week ago and I might change my mind again.
  3. Lol. Correct. You are not familiar with Rikuu's game at all I see.
  4. I think catcher is risky. There's just so much more to worry about. Game calling, defense etc. Also, development isn't linear and they often take forever. Adley Rutschman was a can't miss prospect. They also don't play that often and the league is leaning toward using multiple catchers. I'd be pushing for a Montgomery extension right now but I just don't really consider that when making this selection at 1. Take the best guy. I think the best guys are both shortstops and they'll both cost around the same so I'd take the college player in this case. I think Cholowsky is an entertaining and dynamic player. Why is Lackey more entertaining? I don't really get that. I do worry that the fanbase will be incredibly difficult on the player if it's anyone other than Cholowsky at this point. There's no way that Vahn Lackey is going to be more exciting to the majority of the fanbase than Roch Cholowsky would be; if that's a thing.
  5. Was DFA’d by the Guardians. Unless they work out a deal or he’s claimed on waivers by another team willing to roster him, he’ll be back.
  6. The fact that he may be replacing Acuna is enough to love.
  7. +Nishida +Hays -Acuna -Kelenic?
  8. Venable‘s decision making during games just bothers me. And I know this roster is still really flawed, but he’s getting outmanaged by an SEC manager today.
  9. Didn't know you 2 were friends
  10. Cleveland picked up Pallette from the White Sox in the Rule 5 draft. As part of the standard DFA process, the club has five days to trade him or place him on waivers. If another team makes a move to add Pallette, they’ll take on the Rule 5 requirements. If Pallette passes through waivers, he’ll be offered back to Chicago. MLB Trade RumorsGuardians Designate Peyton Pallette For Assignment, Recal...The Guardians have made a bullpen move, designating Peyton Pallette for assignment and recalling Logan Allen.
  11. Curious to see how/if he translates, but he's been a fun watch since A ball
  12. Oh man! He so much fun to watch. Such an easy guy to root for. I keep expecting him to hit a wall and he just hasn’t. Hopefully that continues. If his game can even somewhat translate, fans are gonna love this guy.
  13. Missing the cutoff man is an inexcusable error for a bubble player. Good riddance.
  14. Just gave up too many homers to a team that doesn't hit many over the last 2 days. Time to come home and open up a can of whoop ass on the Twinkies.
  15. baseball is a game of streaks, the Sox were due for a bad one
  16. I would have to guess he replaces Acuna, although the team becomes very left-handed in that case. And I don't think he's capable of playing SS and last time I watched him play outfield, his arm was playing badly enough that they were tagging from first on him. That said, I'm a big Rikuu fan so I'm very happy to see him get to taste the big leagues.
  17. Not a fan of Venable. Some of his lineups have me scratching my head. I mean, the man actually had Benintendi leading of a couple of games. Also, Meidroth is not a fifth place hitter.
  18. Getz is playing 4D chess and the other GMs are playing checkers.
  19. At least part of this is providing Mune a Japanese fluent teammate...bye bye Acuna. Kelenic also out?
  20. Sox send a sleeper agent to undermine and steal info from our division rival and you're mad?
  21. Excellent play from Luisangel
  22. This team has played like absolute crap on this trip. If it wasn't for 2 miraculous innings, they'd be starring at an 0-6 road trip.
  23. His command is bad. His stuff isn’t nearly good enough to pitch over it.
  24. This pitching staff gave up runs in disappointing fashion?
  25. Even when Peters swings the bat it's a bunt
  26. "I like long walks on giant surface parking lots"
  27. That was Colson, Beni is on the bench.
  28. If you don't think Peters can touch a lefty that you have to have him bunt with 1 out and a guy on 2nd and 3rd then don't put him in the lineup. The bunt only works in that situation if they arent expecting it
  29. What a fucking waste. They pulled the infield in and do do bird bunts ... Give me a break
  30. 2 points
Might have been Cannon’s best start of the season. 5.1ip 2er 3w but 6k. Gotta start somewhere
  31. Chicago has one of the most extensive, robust public transit systems in the US. The L and Metra systems are probably 2nd only to NYC's subway and commuter rail systems. The idea that the Sox fan base is an island within a metro area full of mass transit commuters who are too afraid or stubborn to take the train stretches credulity.....especially at a location that is walking distance to the Red, Orange, and Green lines and, at worst, a short shuttle bus ride away to Union Station and LaSalle St stations. Plus, as you said, there WILL be parking if they move there for people who drive. The Fire is already planning to have at least 2000 parking spots available. I'll also note that Gen Z is driving less than previous generations. In 2034, which apparently might be the timeframe for any new Sox stadium in the South Loop, the oldest Gen Z will be closing in on age 40 (a scary thought!). Which generations' driving habits will be a factor in planning any new ballpark? Boomers, who will be age 70-88 in 2034? Or Gen Z and Gen Alpha? https://www.usatoday.com/story/graphics/2024/05/17/gen-z-less-likely-get-drivers-license/73678202007/
  32. Why ? Acuna isn't good . I wasnt arguing for Acuna with you but thats what you turned it into because your argument about how you wouldve constructed the lineup without him when Vargas was hurt for a day was weak. Typical deflection behavior playing the victim. Poor baby.
  33. Yes, it’s been absolute killer. At the same time, pitching can just suddenly click with the right tweaks, so always good to maintain faith with high talent arms. Just sucks that injuries are also a factor with two of the four above.
  34. I wasn’t really following him, but I do seem to remember a decent amount of Getz hate for making a stupid move to leave Pallette exposed.
  35. IMO, you really got to go the college route with the 1.01 and it really comes down to Roch as BPA or Lackey as best value for the overall draft (depending on how cheap he would be). Either way, there should be plenty of bonus to add some high ceiling preps in rounds 2 & 3. I get Emerson is a really strong talent, but can’t really see the argument for him over Roch. I don’t think anyone else is really an option as Lombard is way too risky for the 1.01. Regardless, I have full confidence in Shirley to come out of this draft with the most talent possible.
  36. Pallette does not throw enough strikes. That has been his problem for a while. Once mlb hitters figured that out, he was toast. I hope he figures it out, but he nibbles with breaking stuff rather than attacking the zone early and then using spin to finish guys off. 16 bb in 20 IP just not gonna cut it.
  37. Not exactly sure what you’re trying to say here. I’ve been to Oracle. It’s amazing. And the logistics are not disrupted by the canal/bay in any way.
  38. I hope the guy gets to see a total eclipse of the Sun in his lifetime.
  39. For whatever reason, premier power hitters tend to get more "but look at his strikeouts" type-criticism than everyone else, even when the strikeout rates are similar. Okamoto has been a league average hitter (which is fine, to be clear) but whenever he gets talked about as a "safe" or high floor hitter, nobody brings up the 32% K rate. On the other hand, Chase Meidroth, a player that I like, is striking out ~24% of the time this year and that doesn't seem to get brought up much either
  40. Hicks is at least gone for awhile. IL stint.... unofficially for chronic inflammation of the ERA I believe.
  41. “Just flush it.” Disgustingly, the Schriff-dawg used this line about tonight’s blowout.
  42. \ Had to go back and find it, but it's worth it.
  43. I think the key may be if they can beat up on the Royals and Tigers and maybe even the Twins...I just don't know if Detroit is going to continue to suck.
  44. This thread gets posted and we have a stinker of a game. Just flush it.
  45. He made our bad team worse, but I wish him the best of luck.
  46. once Acuña is DFA'd (which will happen at some point) ,why not promote Rikuu Nishida and turn him into a better version of Acuña, he can play OF and IF and is a much better and smarter hitter
