  1. @DirtySox you've been wonderful this whole thread and I hope you hit every green light for the next month.
  2. After the recent play, is the smart move to buy instead of sell?
  3. Guys....this is a banger of a draft class.
  4. I like how every talent evaluator said yesterday the Sox did an incredible job, but apparently not to a group of people who have never even heard of these kids until yesterday/today.
  5. If you told me at the beginning of the year that this team would have 50 wins at the all star break, I would have thought that something catastrophic happened and they moved the all star game to mid August.
  6. Who was the total knucklehead who, early in the thread, said Sandlin should be starting today over Schultz. That guy was waaay off. Oh wait, it was me. What a goofus.
  7. He wants to work on his split finger with some sorority girls.
  8. And with that I now go sink into Post Draft/All-Star Break depression. 🫠
  9. Missed the ENTIRE game (wife wanted to watch Project Hail Mary) Who had Antonacci at an 800 OPS at the ASB? Even moreso, the entire lineup at 700 OPS or more (minus Teel for ABs). Great 1st half boys, lets keep it going!
  10. Days later, I'm still shocked that anybody actually cares about Jacob Gonzalez. That being said, I am not shocked that SoxTalk posters are looking for reasons to be upset.
  11. I truly think tomorrow they have a shot at turning this into what we will look back on as one of the more special drafts in franchise history!
  12. Just for fun, here are slot values and my projected variances for each pick: 01) Cholowsky, SS (11.35M | -$0.85M) 01) Thome, SS ($2.90M | +$0.00M) 02) Prosek, 2B ($2.45M | +$0.45M) 03) Volchko, RHP ($1.09M | +$0.41M) 04) Segura, RHP ($0.75M | -$0.35M) 05) Scolari, RHP ($0.55M | -$0.15M) 06) Weingartner, OF ($0.41M | +$0.98M) 07) Burdette, OF ($0.33M | -$0.18M) 08) Jones, 3B ($0.26M | -$0.25M) 09) Craytor, P ($0.22M | -$0.21M) 10) Bucciero, OF ($0.20M | -$0.19M) That would be $0.34M in net savings so far. Add $1.02M for the 5% overage and you’re at $1.36M of excess pool. With the $150k allotment for any picks after the 10th, we could potentially sign a $1.5M bonus player in the 11th. Feels like something big will be coming within the hour.
  13. I just don't think this matters. All about the totality of the draft class. Doesn't matter where guys are picked. Not totally but it adds up. Cholowsky has been reported as $10.5 million. I'm guessing it's $6 million total for Thome and Prosek and another $1.5 million or so for Weingartner. Volchko is likely at least slot and Segura and Scolari are probably $500K each or so. These college players have real leverage right now with NIL. Paying Roch Cholowsky $10.5 million isn't a Mike Shirley decision. I didn't think they'd have to go to that level but Emerson also getting $10 million at #2. Wasserman group did their jobs.
  14. What’s weird is that liking Jacob Gonzalez is apparently frowned upon despite Kiley McDaniel ranking him our 2nd best prospect and Keith Law referring to him as a potential star. I’m about as optimistic as it comes, but don’t think trading him for Landon Thome is good value. Sorry if that’s upsetting to you.
  15. Quote from Shirley from today after the last round: “We still have revenue left in our pool, we can continue to start attacking again tomorrow. So that extra space we created last night via the trade is going to pay off in our first ten or maybe our first twelve rounds.”
  16. After re-reading some of his quotes, I'm so fucking hype for Roch. Dude is gonna be to the Sox as the Calebs are to the Bears and Bulls.
  17. This thing that happened 17 years ago on a message board really rankled you huh
  18. Yep those are all white Sox players now congrats
  19. At the break, your Chicago White Sox have spent more time at or above .500 than under it this season. On May 13th, they reached .500 for the first time after 42 games. They have not been below since (they were exactly .500 again twice at 26-26 and 27-27, but never under). They bottomed out at 7 under (6-13) on April 16th. Since April 17th, they are 44-32 (~94 win pace), 5th in MLB and 2nd in the AL. Only the Brewers, Dodgers, Rays, and Phillies have been better. Coincidentally, that stretch started with a series win vs. the A’s on the road and runs through this sweep vs. them at home (and both times the Sox had been swept by an AL East team at home in the previous series). Some benchmarks for the second half: 11-56 to exceed last season's win total 20-47 for 70 wins 31-36 for a .500 season 37-30 for 87 wins, the cutoff for the playoffs in last year's (stronger) AL
  20. Meidroth is your second basemen for the foreseeable future. Gold glove defense and a good set-up man in the line-up.
  21. Yeah I'm quiiiitee enamored with this version of Jordan Hicks
  22. easily the best I've seen Schultz look so far, granted it's the injury ridden A's but if there was an offense to inspire confidence, this is it
  23. That's a lineup for a sweep. Let's go!
  24. Thome, Prosek, and Weingartner will make for a fun Kanny squad next year for sure.
  25. After sleeping on it I'm pretty excited about the current draft class. It's good. It's solid. But today it could turn into a great class. I imagine they have 3 to 4 million to play with. I feel like Santarelli is absolutely going to be one of the selections. If they could also add in a prep pitcher on top of that I would be pretty stoked. Eli Herst is one of my favorites. There are also a few guys we've heard linked with the White Sox that haven't been selected yet to consider. Sean Dunlap, Ethan Bass, and Dylan Boewen most notably. Hoping they take two decent swings today on guys. Fine with punting the rest.
  26. Listening to the Baseball America podcast and they “loved” the White Sox draft so far. They said and argument could be made their 2 and 3 picks could have also been first rounders, and their 4 and 5 picks were sneaky good too.
  27. Weingartner will absolutely be over-slot.
  28. I'm done listening to those nerds Kiley McDaniel and Keith Law (notorious White Sox hater). From now on, I get my prospect updates from SoxTalk poster nrockway. Jacob Gonzalez is a bum.
  29. It’s always the former. We probably paid out the nose for the 22 year old red shirt sophomore with Tommy John. It’s always the college guys we think get slot and end up 500k over. if I was Getz I’d start really evaluating the Sox negotiation process. It does not seem premiere to say the least.
  30. Disappointed they needed to punt. I like Shirley as an evaluator, still think he leaves a lot to be desired in how he manages the budget. I am extremely skeptical other orgs would have been forced into 10.5 for Roch.
  31. You better stay out of White Sox business Jr.
  32. Didn’t you hear, Nepo Thome is going straight to Charlotte
  33. BA does not like projections as much, but 80 grade speed and 70 arm is the kind of tools I was hoping we’d see more of.
  34. Wow! Weingartner! That is definitely splashy. Love it.
  35. People were so pumped about him and nervous about Fuller and it’s been the complete opposite results.
  36. Thome is #57 on Baseball America and #51 on Over-Slot. He's a fine pick. I do understand some folks having a qualm with the profile though. He isn't this tooled up super high upside prep bat. A comp that's thrown around with him that I've heard a few times is Brandon Lowe.
  37. What’s the best site for following the draft? Yesterday I had to keep refreshing and scrolling to the current pick. Re: Thome. He’s ranked #34 on mlb and was picked at #34, so I’m not sure how that’s a nepo-pick.
  38. Hmm, Jim growth was likely fueled by something else... I just can't put the needle on it.
  39. Love the correct date being on the game thread
  40. A very conservative estimate would have us with at least $3.8M to work with for rounds 5 to 10. And it’s very possible that figure is actually above $4M. Baseball America’s Best Player Available is littered with HS guys. Archer Horn is the top rated player left and was linked to the Sox in a mock by Callis. Joseph Contreras is the top pitcher left and has an obvious Sox connection. Could he be the HS arm that Shirley said he liked? Either guy would cost $2M+ IMO. There are a ton of interesting preps though at what should be a wide variety of price points. Dominic Santarelli is probably the main name that stands out and I feel like his bonus demands should be much more reasonable. Landon Hodge was a similarly ranked prospect and got $1.1M last year. I feel like Dominic is close to a lock for us in the 5th or 6th for something in the $1.3M to $1.5M range. At minimum, it feels like we should be able to take two more meaningful swings today. And it’s possible that we take three swings if we decide to spread the money around and focus on HS guys in the $1.0M to $1.5M range. I fully expect at least three senior signings today to end the first 10 rounds to help facilitate. In all honesty, we didn’t really flex our bonus pool muscle yesterday outside of Prosek, so today has to make up for that. The Sox have consistently maxed out their spending in the draft in recent years, so there should be no concerns with us going cheap here. The money will be spent and it’s just a matter of how.
