Hagen Smith looked good closing out the game tonight 3K in 2IP no runs. 1 H. He was pitching in relief of Shane Smith, who walked 3 guys in 4.1 but only gave up 1 run. Pretty good night for the Smiths.

Houston has a decent offense (104 wrC+) but outside Alvarez not too much slug. They have a poor defense and an awful (4.80 FIP) staff. On paper we should take 2/3 given we're at home with favorable SP matchups. Martin has not been sharp lately and has been middle middle way too much even if he's still getting a decent amount of whiffs. I think he can give us 6 innings with 3 allowed tonight. Offense needs to do their job and the pen should be well rested.

I really, really, really hope that we use the found money this season (literally, we are up 20% YoY in attendance so far, with a lot of season left) that they are willing to take on salary versus the prospect cost this season.

We've done this before. Yes, this group feels different from that group, but I remember the days of creating potential future lineups with a "stacked" outfield of Ryan Sweeney-Brian Anderson-Jeremy Reed. It's not to say the White Sox don't have a good foundation for the future, but we have no idea what the next few years will look like, but we know who the Sox are in 2026, as well as the rest of the AL.

speaking for myself here, I think the Sox are a contender but I think they are clearly below NYY and TB, I think they're on the same level as Seattle and Cleveland if they can win 2 or 3 vs NYYs SP, that will bump the Sox up a peg for me

Arrighetti had a very rough June (9 ERA over 5 starts) but has limited the damage to 1 ER in two of his last 3 starts. When he gets in trouble, it’s usually due to a mix of walks (16 over his last 5 starts) and homers (9 in his last 5). He’s allowing a .384 OBP to lefties, and has been worse on the road (5.52 ERA) than at home (3.05). He throws a kitchen sink mix headlined by a good curveball (39% whiff rate, .181 xBA against). Sits 92-93 on the 4 seamer that he throws 29% of the time to mixed results (.292xBA, .556 xSLG). Would be a nice day for the Sox to slug a few into the seats and limit the impact of the best hitter in the league on the other side. Could be a big homestand if Mune/Colson can catch a heater.

I would guess Fauske is the most likely "big name" trade bait when Getz is shopping for a deadline upgrade. He's got some helium from his solid season but he's years away from contributing to the major league team and he does not have the ceiling of Carlson.

To each their own…but completely disagree. I’d be more worried about just stabilizing the staff and not throwing out a SP that hurts the team every 5th day. I’ve got bad news for you if you think this team is acquiring someone that makes them a real contender. I think it’s important to reinforce the team enough to get to the playoffs to get the kids some experience, but making a big move to try and rush the WS window would be pretty dumb imo.

I am on the Clay Holmes train. He can start or relieve and has 1 year of control. The only question is if his broken leg is ok. He just pitched a game down in the minors on rehab so we will see how it goes.

Agreed. I feel that a warehouse stadium would age poorly, especially with Wrigley Field, one of the most iconic, cozy baseball stadiums of all time, already taking up residence in the city. We’d be stuck playing second fiddle stadium-wise again. Indeed. Like T-Mobile Park, Daikin Park also stores its three-panel roof beyond right field, but (imo) Daikin Park maintains a better view past left field. If a retractable roof is actually being considered, then Ishbia’s team would need to find a way to keep both sides of the outfield visible. Otherwise, we either can’t see the skyline, or we can’t hit dingers into the river.

No, I wouldn't trade my top prospects at their lowest possible value especially when we literally just drafted them 1 and 2 years ago.

Interestingly, Seattle’s T-Mobile Park gets around the excess space that a retractable roof needs by positioning the roof above railroad tracks. However, the view of outside the stadium is limited because of that. Now, please allow me to speculate: If that area were set up so that the railroad tracks, or railyard, housing the stadium’s roof were behind left field, as opposed to beyond right field, then spectators could have a full, unobstructed view of beyond the park. This is significant because that’s exactly what Amtrak’s 14th St. Yard could allow for. The area I’ve outlined in yellow is Amtrak’s yard. The area I’ve outlined in red is BNSF’s yard. If arranged, Ishbia’s stadium could use the air space above BNSF’s yard to house a potential roof, similarly to T-Mobile Park’s setup. It would come from across the other side of the field, but I see no reason why that couldn’t be done. I don’t mean to rant about something purely hypothetical, but I figured you all on this forum might appreciate the concept. Hopefully we hear more news on the stadium front soon.
