  1. It's hardly a surprise that many who grew up in Bridgeport with the White Sox as a defining part of their neighborhood will be sad to see them go (and sad to see the Tray effect clearly tainting any and all critical discussion of the move.) I do feel for the neighborhood and will be nostalgic myself when the eventually leave, just as I was nostalgic when they tore down Old Comiskey. But the notion that their leaving will turn Bridgeport into a "ghost town" is way overblown for the reasons folks have mentioned. It will turn Bridgeport into...a neighborhood without a ballpark, like all but one of the other Chicago neighborhoods. Albeit a neighborhood with a big physical hole to fill.
  2. This is solid work Ron. Based on your history of pronouncing something dead, the Sox should now win like 15 in a row. Way to take one for the team.
  3. Well said. It would definitely be a bittersweet move even if overall it'll be a positive for the franchise. It's not a decision to take lightly. Too bad that kind of balanced discussion has been drowned out by all the tantrum throwing.
  4. Does anyone here actually believe this? Seems very far-fetched to me. If there's such a demand, why isn't the ChiSox Bar and Grill always packed to the gills? What has stopped the actual Bridgeport neighborhood - just steps away from the Sox parking lots - from becoming "like River North" over the last 30 years? Sullivan is the guy who has spent decades totally ripping the Sox to shreds for its sterile ballpark environment while getting all misty-eyed over the wonderful Wrigley Field. Now, he's joined the "It's a Perfectly Fine Ballpark" brigade? He's also the guy who keeps wanting to re-write history by saying that Disco Demolition was a massive anti-gay, anti-black rally. If the Sox move the South Loop, I don't doubt he'll continue to be a Sox basher and Cubs shill. Fun fact: Sully's brother is running for US Senate in Alaska! It has nothing to do with Paul's reporting, but his brother is on the ballot. I don't want to make this political, though, so let's not get into the merits of his candidacy.
  5. I mean I have no doubt that some businesses will suffer. There is Grandstand and a couple of bars that get mentioned for sure. But I do think things are being exaggerated too.
  6. I can't help but think, with as little stuff as there is around the baseball experience, what exactly are they losing? I mean if you work at the park, you can still work at the park 2.5 miles away. There isn't some big ballpark experience of shops that depend on the team, which is the whole point of trying to actually create a ballpark village. I know there are a few shops around the team, but it isn't anything like other teams, and I feel like they are trying to have two things be true at once, which can't.
  7. It just seems like Sox hitters can never adjust. They don't seem to have any gameplan at the plate from pitcher to pitcher. They just go up there swinging for homeruns every at bat. Ultimately the offensive struggles are on the organization. Lack of quality coaches, lack of preparation, lack of adjustments in approach or swing... The more things change the more they stay the same.

And maybe made them worse in 2027 by having to pay Castillo to be s%*#.
  9. First base open and you pitch to their best player.
  10. Is it Dan Sullivan, or the other Dan Sullivan?
  11. ....I'll also add that questions about parking and traffic if they move to the South Loop are legitimate ones to have. Yes, they still need to accommodate fans who want to (or have to) drive to the game even if mass transit becomes more widely-used. But the idea that driving to a new ballpark will be impossible is nonsensical. What happens to tailgating, too? For some fans, that is an integral part of their Sox game experience. Can they come up with some areas (perhaps that land at 18th and Canal that Ishbia is reportedly buying?) where they can keep that tradition alive? It's not going to be 40 acres of surface lots like now. Also, if people have other things to do around the park and other ways to get to the park, tailgating probably won't be as extensive. But it's still a thing among some diehards and that's something that Ishbia's team is going to need to figure out how to preserve. It is possible to acknowledge that both pros and cons exist while still believing a new ballpark in the South Loop will be an overall huge boost for the White Sox franchise and popular with many Sox fans....and without hyperventilating about evil billionaires.
  12. They have to find some way to get starting pitching or they are never going to be serious contenders.
  13. Why not? We live in a world where reality doesn't matter anymore. There's no accountability anywhere for lying. Lol
  14. Been a really fun season and really tough 2nd half watch. Both things true. I am super busy at work of course this week which isn't helping my mood towards the Sox. Anyways, go Sox. Hopefully we can avoid a complete collapse.
  15. I can't wait to hear Schiff bellow "STAAAAAND UP PERFECTLY FINE FIELD!!!"
  16. Maybe they can stay at the current park and, after the naming rights deal with Rate mortgage ends, rename it "There's Nothing Wrong with It Field" since that's the main thing its advocates can say about it.
  17. Knowing Chicago history, especially the south side, it's almost a given.
  18. Can't a neighborhood stand on its own? I mean...there are plenty of neighborhoods in Chicago that don't have a professional sports team located in it...that are destinations for a night out or a place to hang! Sure I get nostalgic when I think of my grandfather taking me to games at 35th and Shields in the 70s-90s...but time marches on! Nostalgia is not going to slow Ishbia down...nor should it! NOTE: Lip - those aren't questions aimed at you...more at the topic/feel of Sullivan's column.
  19. I hope you're right. This team has done this s%*# my entire life though. Hard to be excited after the last 5 years of disappointment and letdowns.
  20. A post with an intro like this is funny...especially when the content is not obvious at all!
  21. Sam has to stop the elbow business; it's not playing hard it's playing dirty. I didn't like it when he elbowed Contreas at first base in Boston, or last night at second base, just stop doing it .
  22. Last thing Ron repeatedly declared dead.
  23. I think you gotta give Hagen a chance to start next year. He could be HUGE for our rotation.
  24. Well, billionaires are evil. But reality exists. They want to increase revenue streams, and people want a gameday/game weekend experience. They won't be remaking Wrigleyville outside of the South Loop. But if they create space for year-round activities like theaters, galleries, shops, as well as bars and restaurants, the downtown backdrop will make it a wild success.
  25. I love that you know this. Lol. Did you know that mayor Dan Sullivan endorsed senator Dan Sullivan against the other Dan Sullivan, as well? 🤣
  26. The Rays also got burned by investing in Wander Franco. Who knows where they are if that guy wasn’t a POS
  27. My ancestors are from an area on the Greek mainland not far from Kafalonia.
  28. We need starting pitching and I’m worried about both Montgomery’s along with Mune, they probably brought up Braden too soon but had to as Hays was injured. Vargas, Meindroth, Peters, Teel and Ant should only get better and our 2 veterans were damn good at DH. I’m not sure about the status of the Minor League system as I don’t follow the farm teams all that much. I know we have good prospects at Shortstop and some good arms and Bonemer is damn good. I also think Venable and his coaches need to be replaced, maybe not the pitching coach, he did a great job with the bullpen and you can’t blame him for Martin and Burke running out of gas though Martin has 2 nice starts in a row and Fedde has been decent. Now to Getz, what he has done in 2 years is amazing having a team that lost 121 games in 2024 to a contender in 2026, they improved by 20 games last year and will probably improve about 22 games this year, maybe more. The bad news is his acquisitions at this year’s deadline have all been busts.
  29. The org is in the best spot they've been in probably in the last 20 years. Obviously we all felt good about where things were at in 2020, but that turned out to be fools gold. There are real pieces here, both at the ML level and on the farm. But as others have already mentioned, there is still a lot of work to do and I still have no reason to believe the current owner will make the proper investments to get the team to where we ultimately want it to go. So that makes the job that Getz has even harder, and he's going to have some pivotal decisions coming up that he has to hit on. Hopefully they work out better than his most recent trade deadline acquisitions
  30. They're much farther along on the position player site than I would have dream a year ago. I mean, we've had numerous discussions here about how are all these good position players going to fit into our lineup - especially with Bonemer and Roch waiting in the wings. But the starting pitching just has too many holes to fill. As others have said, getting quality starting pitching through FA isn't going to happen as long as JR is owner unless they happen across a dumpster-diving success. There's still question marks on the position player side, but at least there are some quality backups in case some of the guys from this year can't repeat their success in 2027. Getz has had some successes, but he's still not a very good GM overall as shown by his deadline trades. And before anyone chimes in......yes, IF there is a season next year.
  31. As long as JR is in charge this isn't happening.
  32. The lack of business acumen here is truly astounding. The simple reality is a better stadium will draw bigger crowds allowing for bigger payrolls and a more competitive team. A new stadium should also provide a better fan experience than the one we get today. Not sure why we should all settle for a “perfectly fine” stadium when our future owner is willing develop a better one on his own dime. The bulk of your concerns really make no sense and it feels like you are just trying to be contrarian for the sake of argument.
  33. Dont give up now. Quitters never win and winners never quit. LETS GO WHITESOX!
  34. Why should the Sox care about what Amtrak does? Take care of yourself. Build your new stadium where you want with your money.
  35. watching this slow decline has been depressing. The division is there for the taking and we won't take it
  36. In the last 10 games the Sox have score 34 runs...10 came in a single game.
  37. Quero has three speeds: Slow, Slower and Slowest.
  38. They loaded the bases twice in the last three innings and hit two balls that would have tied or gave the lead twice - one with a .500 xBA and the other with a .800 xBA.
  39. I haven’t seen reports about anything other than the South Loop. It seems Ishbia’s been hunting this spot since he made that deal with Reinsdorf. It’s very likely all or nothing, and both Ishbia and Amtrak (as well as countless Sox fans) would not be happy with the latter.
  40. "Don't be sad that they're blowing it now. Be happy that they were ever in contention." Is that a direct quote from Fegan, or WestEddy? "grateful/appreciative" would be better word choices than happy
  41. 2 points
This doesn't belong on page 9.....take no successful season for granted....nice deadline deals clown.
