  1. such a great game. Was there in left field — Mune’s homer really took the air out of the crowd and it never returned. The vibes weren’t great in general for the home team. Didn’t help that we just ground them into dust the whole game of course ;)
  2. Gavin Williams vs TBD. Gavin with a 3.98 ERA and 1.23 WHIP vs the Sox in 20.1 IP this year. Go Sox!
  3. Can you imagine the pressure on Cleveland coming into the Rate down 2 games?

Why the hell are we having conversations about getting rid of grant taylor when he literally just had one of the best relief performances in postseason history.
  6. Anthony Kay getting the nod is another great call by Venable. He dominates lefties and is 1-0 with a 1.35 ERA against the Guardians in 4 games / 20 innings pitched. I actually prefer leaving Davis Martin out of this series if possible, as even though his ERA is good the Guardians are hitting .324 off of him.

I am going to be honest here, 2005 to 2006 is in the back of my head, where we rode our top dogs hard, and then they fell off the next year for the most part. If it were me, I am 100% looking for big innings next year, and I am NOT willing to count on the guys who we used hard in the last two months of the season as a whole. My gut tells me that guys like Newcomb, Hudson, Richards, Burke, Fedde, Schutlz, Taylor etc, are all at pretty high jumps YoY, and/or they were ridden really hard in the last two months of the season. I don't think they all will fall off, but if half had bad years next year, I wouldn't be surprised.

Getz will still be hyping Castillo as being in the best shape of his lifetime coming into ST.
  10. It's easy to have fun when you are winning. Could you imagine this -- "we just lost our 99th game, we need more fucking dancing in the dugout. We're hiring a choreographer." would you believe a truce when we lost 120 games?

  22. One of the journalists criticizing the Red Sox the other day said that the Red Sox are no longer on the cutting edge of analytics due to overlooking things like happiness and chemistry. Believe it or not, these intangibles are starting to make their way into the study of advanced analytics. White Sox, Rays, and Brewers have been in the cutting edge of this stuff in recent years when it comes to looking at these intangibles through metrics and analytics.
  23. Kay/Burke/Newcomb/Fedde That's the combo I'd look for tomorrow. If the Sox can win Game 2 without burning Hagen and Taylor, that's a massive advantage heading into game 3.

  25. highly doubt it. they clearly have zero trust in him right now. he's the mopup guy at this point.
  26. Rod is a lifelong Cubs fan. The Pope is converting everyone.
  27. Lived right around the corner from him when he got out of prison. Always made small chit chat when we’d run into each other. Brought some beer to an outdoor covid party.
  28. Venable: "Burke will play a role Monday ." Will has officially reached Arteta level of mind games.
  29. The other coach on my son’s team is a cle fan. He was super down - which i loved. but I also said how I still kinda feel deep down - that Cleveland loves giving us an early lead only to snatch it away last minute. But that said I fucking love being in the playoffs. Last year watching the World Series I kept thinking how awesome baseball is now and how much it sucked the white Sox weren’t a real baseball team. I wanted Murakami so bad just to proved we existed. Boy howdy.
  30. Feels like the adherence to strict pitch counts kind of led us down this path. Nobody cared in the 90s, guys were throwing 150 pitch complete games and that’s just how it was. It started to change and pitch counts became a thing, and fans all started complaining about the lack of toughness of new players but what it really was, was teams trying to protect their investments. At this point it just kind of feels like a natural evolution to this point, teams are just trying to dominate sections of games with multiple pitchers instead of the entire game with one

I was going to make a post about this after the post season but Grant Taylor is pitching/has pitched his way into the rotation. He’ll probably be on the 2024 Crochet plan and have his innings monitored carefully. Hagen probably takes Taylor’s high leverage role in the pen. The Sox need to sign AT LEAST one starter, ideally someone who can slot in at the TOR, a proven innings eater to help insulate the rotation and the bullpen. I also think they should get a proven closer as well. Rotation is probably Burke/Martin/Schultz/Taylor+Castillo/FA Sandlin moving into the rotation wouldn’t surprise me. The team should keep employing the opener, but they do need proven inning eaters.
  32. The pitching model where teams use an Opener for 2 or 3 innings and then bullpen the rest, can work for a few games, even in the playoffs. So Venable has used mid-rotation starters as bulk relievers to bridge the gap and turn the ball over to the higher leverage relievers in late innings. There are some disadvantages such as overworking the bullpen, but there are some advantages like playing match-ups and giving hitters different looks from different pitchers throughout a game. Also, taking a starter out after two times through the order can avoid hitters get dialed in on them
  33. Three factoids today: October 4, 1948 - Chuck Comiskey III was named vice president of the White Sox. He refused to see the team continue to be the laughingstock of the American League and immediately began to take steps to change things on and off the field. Those changes started to bear fruit during the 1951 season as the Sox vaulted into contention in the American League. For the next 17 seasons, through the end of the 1967 campaign, the White Sox produced a winning record and were usually in the running for the pennant, winning it in 1959. October 4, 1981 - Jerry Hairston’s grand slam helped beat the Twins 13-12 setting off Bill Veeck’s original exploding scoreboard for the last time. The blast came off future White Sox pitching coach Don Cooper. The Sox trailed in the game 12-5 before scoring eight unanswered runs in the final two innings with Hairston driving home the game winner. The victory gave the Sox their first winning year since 1977 at 54-52. The game also marked the end of broadcaster Harry Caray’s association with the Sox after 11 seasons. October 4, 2005 – The White Sox opened the divisional playoffs against the Red Sox at home in U.S. Cellular Field before a capacity crowd…and they did it with a bang, blasting Boston 14-2. The White Sox hit five home runs in the game, an A.L.D.S. record. The home runs were hit by Paul Konerko, Juan Uribe, Scott Podsednik and two by A.J. Pierzynski.
  34. Cleveland offense is worse than the Sox’s. We hit more homers which is important in the post season, and we saw that with Mune today.
  35. It's amazing how good a manager looks when the players execute.
  36. Three home teams won just like the wildcard round. The road team…your Chicago White Sox.
  37. Thought this was a joke edit, but it's real. Someone at Google actually coded a little 💯 animation when you search Mune's name.
  38. Yep. He basically just started stealing Bernstein’s schtick of ripping the team once he started partnering with him on The Score. He’s a hack anyways.
  39. What an incredible win. Listening to the score on the way home from work and why the f*** are they trying to pretend that Lawrence Holmes didn't completely abandon the Sox for a few years?
  40. ‘Flying off the shelf’: Sports apparel stores scramble to keep up with demand for White Sox merchandise https://www.chicagotribune.com/2026/10/03/white-sox-sports-merchandise/
  41. The low strikeout philosophy can win regular season games, but EVERYONE strikes out in the postseason. The Guards batters have the lowest K/9 in MLB since 2022 in the regular season. Then they make the postseason and are middle of the pack (11th out of 21 teams, not counting this year), striking out just like everyone else. Their runs/game drop so much in October compared to the regular season, because it's hard to string together those slap hitting rallies when managers are aggressively going to the pen for matchups instead of planning for 162.
  42. Grant Taylor should get the Cy Young award for that performance today, just unbelievable.
  43. We are the team of destiny. With our pitching and offense playing better, we are the better team. We can beat up on the Guardians.
  44. It was probably easier for those Sox fans to get tickets to the ALDS games in Cleveland than in Chicago.
  45. It can’t be overstated how big stealing a game Messick started in CLE. Seriously huge advantage in this series. Will has been on fire. Really well managed ballgame. Props to the staff!
