  1. Lots of people care, actually. I want to see this White Sox team play baseball. I also don't want to see friends in many industries like radio, tv, advertising, media, scouting etc fired because there's no baseball this year. It's not about you. If you don't want to watch then don't watch.

  6. The Sox saved $1,195,500 with the signings if their 3rd and 4th round picks so far. The Kelley slot value is $1,580,200, which would allows them to offer Kelley $2,775,700 if they get no savings from their 5th round pick., and didn't go over their draft allotment at all. The Sox can add another $388,240 with their 5% overage which is allowed by MLB, meaning they could still offer $3,163,940 to Kelley with no savings from their 5th round pick.

  7. They wouldn't have gained anything from agreeing to that proposal and now they have the opportunity to file a grievance. They also showed solidarity like never before going into the most important cba in league history. The players did very well for themselves.

  8. Trevor Bauer remains awesome. I'm as pro labor as you can get, but the MLBPA were pretty dumb to reject that proposal yesterday.

  9. I know James and others disagree, but I want no part of a 60 game season where it’s not a matter of if, but when, a team has to take two weeks off due to an outbreak.

  10. I will relax when it isn’t such a threat, and that may be without a vaccine. But I will not put myself in situations just asking for it, even though I don’t have any of the underlying conditions that are said to make the symptoms worse, and I also have type O blood which some studies say help the cause.

  11. So he got full slot value, right? This means he probably really was 11th on the sox board and they didn't want to save money. When looking at the board it probably makes sense, the better players really all went top 10 unless you like abel or howard more.

  13. As a season ticketholder, I'm sure if the Sox allowed, i would get the chance, but I would pass. As much as I love going to games, and as much as I miss it, it isn't worth the risk until there is a vaccine or this thing just went away.

  14. We shouldn't be surprised that there have been players and staff who have tested positive for COVID, especially if there had been groups at their spring training sites. I don't imagine it's a coincidence that we're just hearing about it now. It's obviously very important moving forward that there are solid protocols in place for when games start. Testing will have to be robust along with tracing.

  15. I just wanted to point out with this line: The Sox couldn't get Crochet to slide to the second round, but because Kelley was a HS kid in the craziest draft in MLB history, he could legitimately use his draft status and bonus demands to push himself out of the other teams ranges and safety factors. The Sox may well have thought Kelley was the better pick, but there is no way that Crochet had the same leverage to push his status the same way that Kelley did. If the feelings were reversed there is no way Crochet falls more than 5 to 10 picks because he would come back as a college senior, and couldn't demand money the same way that Kelley did. In this way they got both of them. If they pick Kelley first, they don't get Crochet. They get a lesser second round pick. They played the system to get two first round picks effectively. I wouldn't use that as a definite way of rating how they feel about both players.

  17. They are in high school. They can wear masks. The online school was a fucking joke. Before this started my kids were high honors students. The online classroom is so fucking easy. They put in about 45 minutes of work a day with their "online" class. They are getting cheated by this. Most of kids in their class cheat. Its dumb to think you can even remotely have the same level of instruction online. This nonsense of not having in person classes until a cure comes. Good luck with that.

  18. Sounds like our current climate change philosophy. Let’s wait until it’s an overwhelming problem, at which point it might be too late to intervene. Meanwhile, we’ll stick our heads in the sand.

  19. So in a matter of a little over 2 hours, this dude tweets, "Manfred will announce a schedule," "wait, no he's not, more dicking around needs to happen first," "just kidding, he announced it." What in the hell?

  27. If the players can still get the DH and expanded playoffs for the remainder of the current CBA, they should take it IMO. I'm not keen on giving in, but it seems the owners strategy has worked. They wanted 60 games or fewer, so they just wait it out without a deal until 60 games is the maximum feasible amount. At this point, there's no way in hell they're getting 70 so just take the DH and expanded playoffs and go into CBA discussions with a chip on your shoulder. I also don't think that the MLBPA realizes how much money they're losing by not instituting a cap and floor system. Pretty much everyone except the Yankees, Dodgers, Cubs and Red Sox has an internal budget that they won't exceed anyway. Forcing the 26 other teams to spend at least 90-100M on payroll puts more money in players pockets than allowing those four teams to spend whatever they want.

  28. Just name me one other org that scouts the grounds crew. Only the Sox cover all the bases and dig up the infield dirt for talent. Then imagine Nick M bottoming out while Ty becomes the next Buehrle. I bet we let some Andy Frains get away too.

  29. Our writers have been debating where to slot Garrett Crochet and Jared Kelley into the organizational top 30 list. We compiled our thoughts into a roundtable here: https://www.futuresox.com/2020/06/22/where-do-garrett-crochet-and-jared-kelley-rank-in-the-white-sox-system/ What does everyone else think? Where should they rank?

  30. I've heard nothing about makeup concerns. I interviewed him last week and have spoken to people close to him. I'd be stunned if he had any makeup issues. He was definitely heavier this spring. Professional strength program can fix all of that.

  33. I was talking to my parents last night, who live in NC. Apparently the state is making masks mandatory starting today in response to cases on the increase again, and they're concerned there will be another lockdown. They remarked how well Illinois has done is national news. It's amazing the number of people here who are still b****ing about the plan. We're now on pace to go to Phase 4 on Friday, when movie theaters will be allowed to open and restaurants can start seating inside. Six weeks ago, getting there seemed like an impossibility. It really shows how effective social distancing and masks can be. I read an article that said if 80% of people wore masks, the virus could be pretty well controlled. It's really not hard to wear a mask, and it's a shame more people aren't wearing them.

  35. It has nothing to do with the value of a dollar. It has everything to do with the value of a dollar within the bubble of baseball. I think everyone misunderstands what I wrote. If revenue drops, baseball salaries drop. It's that simple. How low will they go is the question. You'd have to be crazy to think that players are going to get the same dollar amounts as in 2019. I mean, I'm about as pro-labor as you can get but if revenue has been cut by 40-55%, then salaries will drop by a similar amount.

  36. It seems odd that he is holding campaign rallies during a pandemic and wants to slow testing down. No matter how he spins things, COVID-19 is going to be an issue in America even after the election and it is impacting people who are vulnerable. I can’t support the approach he has taken with the virus as of late and how he shows a complete disregard for science and that community. I can criticize him fairly, even though I know he only cares about his base and not moderate independents like me.
