  1. I really love what the Sox have done in the first ten rounds. Shultz -- Was in contention to be a top-15 pick before mono Pallette -- Was in contention to be a top-10 pick, some thought maybe even a shot at 1-1, before TJ Cannon -- Was in contention to be a first round pick before mono Sprinkle -- Was in contention to be a first round pick and the top SS taken before some swing changes messed up his offense There is an alternate reality where all four of these guys were off the board before the Sox even picked at 26. As an Alabama alum I might have preferred Prielipp over Shultz, but he fell pretty far so I wonder if there are concerns about his medicals. Either way, hard to complain about the upside in this draft.

  2. I'm surprised that you thought of me. After all, he hits right handed. LOL Interesting, the year before he had 16 homers, in 160 at bats. So, two years in a row, he hit one homer, every 10 at bats.

  10. Every draft pick is eligible for the MLB schlorship program which pays 100% of college tuition. Players in High school, junior college, and college. Some teams will even pay for grad school. Baseball is not forcing anyone to give up their education.

  11. The guy is always going to be able to go back to college and will instantly be a multi-millionaire. Plus, at least for the top prospects, there is usually a provision in their contract that will have the team pay for college if they ever decide to go back.

  12. My Selections: Position Player: Jose Abreu Consistent, underappreciated, plays and never complains. Starting Pitcher: Dylan Cease Just kicking ass this season, a consistent starter. Would be a great thread to quote trade suggestions of Dylan the past few seasons. Relief Pitcher: Reynaldo Lopez Hendriks and Graveman may have slightly better bWAR, but the Sox are paying them hansomly. Reynaldo really turned things around this season and deserves to be recognized for his contributions. Comeback Player of the Year: Johnny Cueto Very easy decision, picked off the scrap heap on Opening Day and has given the Sox very solid starts to keep them alive into the second half. MVP: Jose Abreu 90 Games, always answers the bell. Would be several games under without him. Suck it Ron. Tony's Selections: Position Player: Leury Garcia Very clutch, can play him everywhere. We should have given him a bigger contract. Starting Pitcher: Lance Lynn Big time competitor, the guy I pencil in when we face a must win game. Relief Pitcher: Joe Kelly You guys are really going to love this guy. Staff MVP: Shelley Duncan Helps us compete everyday. Defensive alignments, optimal lineups, strategic in-game decisions. You name it, Shelley has his fingers on it. We wouldn't be where we are today without his unsung efforts. Player MVP: Leury Garcia Really a no-brainer here. I'm really upset he is not going to Los Angeles to represent the American League.

  13. Ofcourse we arent beating Houston, NY or the Dodgers. We arent even beating Toronto in a series. None of this means fans arent justifiably pissed. It isnt a personal vendetta. Its a legit grievance. Since we are talking facts, it's an irrefutable fact the team claimed we would have a legit championship window when the team and payroll was absolute trash for years. Yet, the odds are this "window" will go by the wayside without even one playoff series win, much less a pennant or WS. It isn't a vendetta. We suffered through years of hell and justifiably are expecting a reward and people can see we aren't even a far cry from a single championship much less "multiple championships". We aren't getting jack shit. Having a fucking dinosaur hijack the entire power structure isn't what I signed up for. Going into a "window" without even one fucking legit LH monster savage isn't what I signed up for. Blowing our wad on stupid relievers and therefore having to fill real holes with plastic, scotch tape and bubble gum isn't what I signed up for. People are justifiably pissed at being lied to.

  14. Simple really, who is your best hitter and best pitcher so far for the White Sox, and who is the MVP overall? Hitter: Andrew Vaughn the way he is performing in the last 10 days and pretty much all season is very impressive and remember he is still only 24, and to think some people were in favour of trading him in the close season. An honourable mention has to go to Jose Abreu who after a typically slow start is once again producing, if it is his last season as a WS player then it looks like a good one. Pitcher: Dylan Cease, how he is not at the all star game I don't know but he has become the star pitcher in this line up. Again an honourable mention for Cueto for his steady performances when not many expected much from him MVP for me is Cease simply for the way he is leading the rotation now and producing pretty much every game.

  19. Yeah, exactly. He hit .376 / .498 / .563 his senior year with 54 walks to 26 ks. 7 homers and 20 doubles. Also quite, quite not good looking. If you were to make a handsome scale on the left you'd have Camilletti and on your right side you'd have Steve Sax

  25. LaRussa isn't going anywhere, and if the White Sox get their act together and win the AL Central, he'll be back next year as well. When it comes to many things, JR doesn't care about public opinion one bit. If fans want to vent, fine. Otherwise, dwelling on LaRussa is a waste of time. We can only hope that the "statement" series was really a statement.

  27. Cease and Vaughn. Don't think people realize how tough mentally Vaughn has had to deal with changing defensive positions, being in and out of the lineup, batting 2nd-7th AND consistently hitting. As a young player, it's amazing what he's done this season.

  28. i kinda want to see the breakdown of total 6'8 and taller draft picks in general and miss rate. Sucks but now the rule is we all have to root for Bailey Ober just so we can increase the numerator when we yell at keith law.

  29. I don't disagree with paragraph 1, I'm just much, much more ok with it at 26. Did not want prep arms when we were in the top 15 ever. And I'm not sure I agree with paragraph 2, I know the acquisition is different but Cease/Kopech are huge ceiling arms, and they were still in A ball. Obviously had shown more than, say, a Kelly at that point. I don't really know what to do with the sox ever though. Ideally we create a pitching machine like the indians and draft uber command pitchers and develop velo and stuff into them. But the sox don't have that, but they have some track record, some, of harnessing big stuff at this point. Not sure where on the spectrum Giolito falls.

  30. some great picks in the compensation round, would have been nice if Hahn did his job and offered Rodon the QO.

  31. The scholarship fund is not a negotiated part of the first contract. It's a separate piece from the signing bonus and every player regardless of round is eligible. Yes, Jerry Reinsdorf is paying for college for every player they draft along with every other MLB owner.

  32. Forcing kids to go to college because you don’t want to pay them full salaries before they are productive vs giving them an opportunity to be paid while they learn the trade at lower levels is 100% better imo. The nba wasn’t being noble, they didn’t want to draft guys not yet ready to play and he “forced” into re signing them after only four years.

  35. Not a bad post regarding the Sox chances now and in the future. For the Sox to make any noise, not only do they need big time upgrade in performance in pitching and defense, but need Robert, Eloy to become bonafide stars as well as Tim to remain a star and Abreu to do what he's done in the past, knock in a hella lotta runs. Good post taking the negative side of things.
