Robert’s Future

Wow that’s not good at all.

True, but I don’t know how your GM can concede that the guy may be done for the season and also say they are committed to him, but not pick up his option.

It still seems like Getz is chasing rainbows.  It sure doesn’t seem like Robert is ever going to perform well enough or be healthy enough to get the trade return that Getz is expecting.

Going on the injured list for a hamstring.  He’s been mostly bad since August 2023 other than the one hot stretch this year and can never stay healthy.  I maintain a team would be nuts to give up real value for him.

Agreed, no matter how he finishes. I think it’s more likely he’s our CF next year than traded in the offseason.

I think this makes the decision easier in their mind to trade him this offseason.

Probably.  They know he is always inevitably going to get injured, so they need to trade him before it happens again next ST or during the season.  But this sucks as well because his value will be at an all time low, coming off of another crap season and an injury.

Pick up the option and then include half of it in a trade for a good prospect package

Robert has shockingly similar numbers in 2025 to 2024

2024: 425 PA's, .224/.278/.379, 1.4 WAR

2025: 431 PA's, .223/.297/.364 1.5 WAR

You know what you're getting at this point...a 28 year old below average hitter who plays a very good CF and will maybe play 2/3 of a season.

That's not worth 20 million or a valuable piece of your farm system, it just isn't.

If he's out the rest of the year I don't see how you could blame them for declining the option in the offseason even after not trading him at the deadline. That would change things in my opinion.

I don’t see how he returns in a month

This was so predictable. Betting on Robert's health is just crazy.

One of the reasons why I will never be as rich as Mattress Mack

Oh, I could blame them.

Anyone surprised by him missing another large chunk of the season? The answer is of course not, so this was true in July as well. You knew this about Robert. It shouldn't change much in their mind.

I agree with your previous sentiment about there absolutely being a chance they decline the option, because it's Jerry. And it's his money, not ours. But again, because there isn't any sort of CF knocking down the Sox door, there really is no "risk" in bringing him back at this point, given it's simply money.

It's not "simply money" to JR though which is always the issue.

If the Bader and Mullins deals were what was on the table for Robert, I thought it was great for Getz to tell them both to stick it, and to keep Robert. Builds credibility going forward, and all he lost out on was three minor league relievers? (the trade for Cedric Mullins - one of which was a converted 3B) I've got no problem with Getz being tough to take advantage of when he's in a hard spot.

I don't really care what happens with Robert. Good luck getting a team to trade for him now that they've all been vindicated by Robert being out of the year before September even rolled around.

Next year, you probably have Brooks Baldwin, Teel/Lee and Bryan Ramos (or player moved by Ramos) looking for OF innings. Maybe Robert holds the interest of casual fans? I don't think you get anything more out of the Mets, Phillies or Padres this offseason for LuBob. Maybe somebody thinks they're a CF away from competing next year?

I don't think it would be insane to not pick up the option for next year. I imagine they will, and all that will do is smoosh a couple of deserving young players into a single OF position.

Free agency isn’t looking too good so hopefully some team thinks they are a Robert away and they overpay.

Yeah... they still don't have anyone to play CF as good as Robert can, but the injury makes picking up the option seem like a bad idea.

I would go with Baldwin in CF with MT for late inning defense if we’re ahead in the game. This means we will probably see Beni in LF a lot more in the last 5 weeks.

You absolutely can and should blame them. His injury risk should have been a huge factor in the decision to trade him or hold onto him.

It’s the same crap as before. Crossing your fingers that injury prone guys suddenly stay healthy.

Look I don’t buy Getz’s crap, I don’t think they ever had any intentions of keeping him what so ever. Is there really a difference between getting a couple organizational filler guys and just outright losing him for nothing?

At least when you held onto him you had a chance to truly increase his value. By all accounts they weren’t offered anything worth a s%*#. What’s the difference?

The true travesty here is they botched the situation with him long ago, this is just icing on the cake.

Other GMs knew Robert’s inability to stay on the field well enough to call Getz’ bluff at the deadline, and low & behold he’s out with another injury that will keep him out significant time. I don’t see how the returns will be better come winter with a $20M price tag attached.

Yep. Unfortunately, I don't see how his value is anything more than what it was this past July. Might even be lower. Teams would have to be run by an incompetent moron to trade for a guy who is guaranteed to sit on the shelf 25-50% of the season year in and year out.

We will likely never see Luis Robert play another game in a White Sox uniform. Chris Getz and company really screwed the pooch with this whole situation. Dude should have been traded at the same time they unloaded Cease. Robert will now go the way of Moncada, with his option quietly declined during football season when no one is paying attention.
